This month's 2-Gun match was three pretty short stages, so my friend Tom and I decided to just play with a fun theme - he brought a pair of huge .50-caliber cannons (.50AE Desert Eagle and a .50 Beowulf AR) and I brought a pair of very quiet guns (SilencerCo Maxim-9 and Q Honey Badger, both shooting subsonics).

I thought The US Coat Guard adopted 50 Beowulf for shooting boats sometime after 2001. I haven't read much about its effectiveness or after action reviews, but someone officially has used it in service.

Good stuff.

"Great trigger" often seems to be synonymous with light hammer strike??? Seems like the makers of these triggers trade hammer spring strength away to get a lighter trigger pull, maybe?

Why did Tom assume such an awkward shooting position during Stage 2? Tilting the barrel? And he should have gotten extra credit for target damage.

If only the Honey Badger had a forward assist....and for some reason, watching Tom shoot prone makes my elbows hurt.

The Coast Guard never actually adopted it. They had a request for proposal out for a big-bore rifle to do many different things. Paul Leitner-Wise submitted the .499 LWR round and had LMT build the guns for him but they were a complete failure and the CG never adopted it. No one else submitted a rifle so the program was dropped. Small Arms Solutions has a good overview of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNDJOghZUH8

It depends on the manufacturer. Geissele and Larue build great triggers that work just fine.
