Lately, I have been getting weight loss ads.

First of all, rude.

Second of all, they were all injection therapy adds, which immediately had my eyebrows all up high. I couldn't help but be reminded of this one episode of a scifi show I haven't watched where people put worms inside their body, and the worm ate all the fat. You'd figure the 'worm inside the body' part would have scared away everyone, but no. They all went through with it because easy weight loss. Of course, they end up being evil worms, but that's not the point.

The point is 3 to 4 years away from weight loss worms.

People are lazy.

Here are the week's chapters:

Chapter 334: Do Not Think Ill of Me is now available for Core Disciples.

Chapter 329: Vision is now available for Inner Disciples.

Chapter 325: Want is now available for Outer Disciples.

For all our new patrons, here is a list of all the chapters you get to catch up on. Note that, depending on your tier, you might not be able to view all of them yet.

I would like to mention that most of the medications you’re probably seeing are tirzepatide or semaglutide injections. The purpose of these is not to change your metabolism or to reduce fat absorption, but actually to regulate appetite. This is why all of those ads say you can lose weight “with diet and exercise.” The point of the drug is to make it easier to do those things. It is not “lazy” to take a GLP-1 treatment. Side note: even if someone was taking a drug which changed nutrient absorption, it’s probably because it’s a medical necessity to improve their health. Obesity is a huge problem in this country, and stigma around weight loss treatment doesn’t help.

Charles Sheffield had a concept of Commensals (iirc), people who replace or augment elements of human metabolism or physiology with tailored symbiotes. In one of the books they all start going sideways, with horrific consequences like “your liver has decided to crawl out your…”
