New Chapter for The Witch and the Sorcerer!

Only when we are at our lowest we can arise without fear of falling even lower, but then again, who was the man that rose? Was it the same that fell in the first place? Or something else entirely?

anon

makes me wonder what jircniv's (no way this is not "the holy emperor making a move" from a few chapters ago) plan is. even if he removes any relevant evidence of his involvement in this, they still have Blumrush and the mountain coalition as both a solid reason and path of invasion

Mike

Out of all the deaths so far, her's hits the hardest. She was truly shaping up to be a very lovable character.

Trlx

thanks for the new chapter!!! :D

This was an amazing chapter and thanks a ton! The only thing I can think Renner is planning is steering her fathers and maybe her eldest brothers rage for her benefit. If the king and heir look like they've gone mad with grief there will be less questions/push back if they die helping to open the way for Renner's ascension. Or at the very least stain their reputations quite a bit so in the long run it makes Renner's plans easier. I really should've guessed the temple since rereading shows quite a few hints that they were desperate enough to do this. The question of course then becomes with whose help, with the emperor being highly suspect, but I think he's too cautious for something like this and perhaps Blumrush/other imperial elites are people willing and able to push for an action like this. The possible ramifications for something like this of course start with the King's demands which can paint him in a really bad light depending on how this goes. After that the questions then becomes how to tie Satoru to the kingdom and since he's a marquis there's practically only one way I can think of and only one way a certain princess will except, but I wonder how Renner will spin that.

Wolf1428

Well, I still maintain that it was the Emperor who “motivated” the temple to carry out the murder of Renner, the pieces come together quite a bit to tell the truth, sure, they could act on their own against someone who “went against the teachings” to the point of preaching acceptance to demihumans, in a very human-centric continent, because of the influence of the 6 Great Gods, but I do not see them acting without the defense of someone like the Emperor, who is just playing the role of a holy man. For the rest, well, I'm not going to say that I'm happy with the death, this is my opinion as a reader, a death must cause some feeling, they can be many, from the obvious, with grief, or the weird ones like happiness if it's a detestable character, the pride before a last stand of a hero, I feel that.... Alysanne's death left me apathetic, she is a character that we see grow a lot, she has her POVs very interesting and ended up as a narrative tool for the plot to take a certain direction, if I have to make a similar, it's like what happened to me with Quanxi from CSM part 2, once she fulfilled the narrative advance that Fujimoto needed, she was discarded in a very disappointing way .... to put it mildly. I'm not going to lie to you that, as someone who enjoyed her character, reading a “But her death will just be an ordinary event, because bigger things are coming” more than hype, it was a kick in the nuts. Anyway, it's a secondary character, but still, I expected something more, I understand it given that well, Satoru is an Undead and Renner is a psychopath, we see the suffering in the environment of the princess, her friend and her father, that was very good. At least there is a mighty vengeance coming against those who caused her death, and may they burn.

Great chapter. I miss Alyssane, she was growing on me :(

Jeeeez such a good chapter… I never understood why sataru couldn’t cast holy magic. I get it’s because he’s undead and not his class, but if he can become a warrior through a spell I never saw why he wouldn’t be able to use another or an item to temporarily become a holy caster with a substantial limit on his spell repertoire

Scarstobone

Interesting chapter as always, I have to wonder why the temple heads were willing to accept the risk for their backer(s). If it was a foreign country or the emperor, eventually the backer would need someone to point the finger at or treat as the scapegoat if somehow the 6th tier caster somehow found evidence. Even if things worked out the way the Temple/backers wanted, and Renner actually was impacted, there was still Satoru's retaliation, and considering the Temple head was trying to get the king against Satoru, they should've realized they couldn't directly oppose Satoru or at least realized how much damage Satoru could cause (physically, financially or just in followers). If it wasn't just stupidity, then whoever the backer is must be worth the sacrifice of at least a temple (if not all the temples in the country as it appears the king wants to do). Is desperation and fear of losing control enough to risk a gamble that could completely ruin your image as "holy men" and even your lives ?

Momoyo

She grow on me a little...... But hey, we'll forget her in due time~ thanks for the chapter!

I think Yggdrasil karma system would basically render any holy magic useless with a -500 karma level. Plus, the shitty devs had to balance the game a bit, i mean if you could switch classes with a spell being a caster would be broken af. Also, since perfect warrior doesn’t give you any skills i think a spell that made you a divine caster would give you no spells to use as we know players can only learn a limited amount.

ZeroSenpai Writer

I get what you say, but i also feel like certain deaths are not so spectacular as we might expect. I personally feel like her death was just something that happened due to chance, and so was quite abrupt and unpredictable. More than a narrative tool, i would see her like some sort of Ned Stark from GOT. Sure, she certainly kicked the plot in a certain direction, but her life had a meaning and her death is not something that will have no consequences in the short and long run. I also think you might have misunderstood my wording a little. I never wrote that Alysanne’s death would be something ordinary, by that phrase i meant to say that “the death of a princess” will not be such a great deal when compared to the world-shaking events that will come in the following years. I meant it as no disrespect for Alysanne but just an objective narrative statement. Though i understand where you are coming from

Makes me wonder, if Satoru destroys the temple of the four gods, will he gain support or at least recognition from the Slane Theocracy. After all there is still that mysterious event going on in the holy kingdom where the four gods are worshipped. Maybe Satoru would be seen as some kind of ally to the ST. I’m just really excited to the time when those two forces actually meet. Especially the black scripture since Clementine has gone rouge and will likely assist in finding her. Quick question though, I know the four gods is a deviation from the six gods, what two gods did they stop worshiping? Great chapter, look forward to another possible purge with Satoru on the battlefield.

Another question, no rush, when will we see some art for this story?

Roberto C

Nice Chapter. I had some vibe, Satoru's emotial suppression breaking at the Witch's Dystopian meIody. He loves her, and being wary Renner was so close to get killed. BTW: Could the shooting star gran Satoru the ability to polymorph himself at will? Not like a shapeshifter but just to become human, from time to time? BTW, i am trying to write a 2nd part for the Dystopian Melody.. just for me. But if you want you could edit it, or use it as inspiration.. after all the WOIAF has a lot of potencial.. Danerys, the real night King and the others, R'hlor.. and of course the scheming.. not to harm Renner or her entourage but trying to get the best side of some of them In regards to some posts: Re-Estize believe in the 4 gods (associated with the elements) not exactly the 6 gods (ygdrassil players from 600 years ago) Slane Theocracy believe in.

I think that "love" is a powerful word. I think we could describe hime as very affectioned, after all, in the whole of canon we only saw him let a few NPCs get on his lap in a very fatherly fashion. We could say he "loves" as a uncle loves his niece. As for Dystopian Melody, do as you wish, i would be curious to see what you came up with. During these couple years i have thought about writing a sequel, but it would literally be a stomping fest for every possible foe. As for your question on Wish upon a Star, i think that it is stated that he can only ask for things that were possible in Yggdrasil and that were not linked with world items (example: asking to change classes could be done, but learning a complete other skill unrelated to his classes seems to go against the game rules so i would say no to that)

ZeroSenpai Writer

Surshana is surely one of the abandoned gods, and seeing how four of the five remaining represent the elements, the only other excluded seems to be Alah Alaf the god of life. It is possible that Alah Alaf was not human too like Surshana and that is why they were abandoned when the 4 Gods religion was created. As for art, very soon, i have one ready, and i plan to publish it in a few days + i have others in the making.

Anon7274

I thought it was implied all except Surshana were human, thus dying of old age. Maybe Alah was abandoned cause there was a relationship between the two. Anyway good chapter and I look forward to the next one.

ZeroSenpai Writer

Sure, it is just my hypothesis, seeing how Surshana was an undead i imagined they abandoned the god for it, Alaf's case might be different altogher but we have no clue.

federico Camargo

This will end in a war with the empire.

federico Camargo

If Satoru becomes the new king, will he give Hilma the position of Márquez?.

ZeroSenpai Writer

I mean, if she wants more responsabilities (though i feel like she is already busy enough). Nobility had lost a lot of its value after the purge, Hilma is more powerful than any of the Marquis of the kingdom by now. Titles are only as valuable as people make them, now that the people no longer fear a mere title, their value and authority has been greatly diminished.

Blackjack

This might sound a little odd but I am actually curious to see what Satoru has planed for Cassy, mainly because I am unsure of what he can do. He has her in custody but given that she is the assassin I imagine that the king is going to want to have the assassin responsible for his daughter's death executed not by Satoru but by him. So I am Curious what Satoru is planning with Cassy and her sister, will we find out what he does or will that just be skipped?

ZeroSenpai Writer

Well, even in canon Satoru never showed to be purposely cruel to others unless they have managed to piss him off. (Think of the nobles who killed Zanac after Ainz had a somehow enjoyable exchange with him) he is certainly annoyed with the poor girl as Alysanne was one of his dutiful subordinates who allowed him to delegate work. As for the King, i think his rage will be directed elsewhere soon... but i wouldn't say anything more than that.
