A long time had passed in the duct since Ren ("漣") and Rokumon began their swim into the Citadel of Oda Nobunaga. It was dark, frigid, and no exit was in sight, but Ren did not feel fear or pain. She was long past that, as underwater maneuvers were something that the orphans like her, who had been sold off to the Clan as spoils of war, encountered in their very first days. The children would be forced to swim through a cave, fully submerged and holding breath, and those who did not make it were just left to the sharks. Only the strong few ever made it through the exhaustive trainings at the House of Iga. Thinking back, Ren believed it was Rokumon, her equally gifted and determined younger sister, that made her live through the hard days as a young ninja-ress. Rokumon was her only sibling and family, and the sole remnant of the happy days when she still lived as a young ordinary girl, before that doomed day that her village fell to the heartless sack of the mercenaries.

Now Rokumon was swimming just in front of her, with her shapely legs creating a small whirl that touched Ren's lips, surreptitiously reminding her of the gust of refreshing air that she had long forgone.
