Petty Officer 3rd Class Eri Hayasui (MSDF) welcomes guests aboard her ship JS Chihaya (ASR-403) on her civilian homecoming day. Chihaya, 6,900 replacement tons, constitutes Japanese navy's submarine rescue squadron alongside her sister Chiyoda. The ship has no armaments,  one 40-ton DSRV (Deep Sea Rescue Vehicle), one ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle), and an extensive medical unit -  a highly coveted guardian of all officers and men that board the navy's underwater fleet.

Eri, serving the Force since the age of 18, is now commissioned to the ship's DDC (Deck Decompression Chamber) and has recently earned her wings as a diving specialist...and how she eventually got to become a PADI instructor in Miyako is a story for another time :-)

It's nice to learn a bit more about Eri.

It's really hard to rescue submarines and not because it's hard do it but because it's hard to find then...

(Aster) I would also think it is rather rare that a sub would sink but it will be still level, in the shallow waters, and is airtight (at least partly). But surely a boost to the morale of the submariners as they know someone always has their back!
