As stars evolve, they produce energy through nuclear fusion of elements, ranging from light elements such as hydrogen to heavy elements such as iron.
When a star runs out of fuel, it can explode as a supernova, throwing its shell and created elements into space. These elements can then recombine to form new stars, planets and even life.
