The mirror is a perfectly smooth and even surface.

Therefore, it doesn't absorb, but reflects light.  Reflection doesn't come from the glass, but from the amalgam layer. It doesn't transmit rays through itself, but refracts them. The refracted beam exits through the glass back and enters the retina of the eye.
