Depraved Dissent

Chapter 1

-VB-

“Oi, Alan!”

I looked up from my phone and saw the local village chief, the one who’d taken me in when I didn’t know what to do with myself except survive in the wild like some feral wildman. I quickly put the phone away.

Partially as thanks and partially as work, I did a lot of menial labor around the village, which mostly included woodchopping and delivering.

“Hello, Chief Rall,” I said to the man.

The thin man in shoddy clothes jogged up to me and looked at the pile of wood on my back. “Man, you brought a lot today, too,” he chuckled.

“I do as you need me to, chief. At least until I’m confident enough to leave the village,” I told him. ‘And the food you guys offer for my work.’

“Ah well, it’s gonna suck to see you go, Alan,” he hummed. “After all, you’ve done the best job so far as the village woodchopper! I gotta go, though. Just make sure everyone gets at least a log’s worth of wood! I hear it’s going to be cold tonight.”

With that, he jogged away to complete some errand.

I shrugged and went back to trudging forward with my phone in hand.

I looked back down at the screen… and scowled.

Hi Agent Reiama,

Okay, what is this? You dropped me off on a random ass world in the middle of nowhere in the wrong universe. I signed up for Star Wars, not Warhammer 40K.

Hello Contractor Marris,

Thank you for contacting the Company.

Currently, I am looking into it, but it seems that there was an error that had been made in the Company side. I am looking to see what I can do.

Thank you for understanding,

Agent Truabru Reiama

Hello Agent Reiama,

It’s been a week since you last sent me your message. I’ve yet to receive transfer or compensation for the difference in world tier budget. Can I get some answers?

Hello Contractor Marris,

Thank you for contacting me. It simply took me a long time to go through the procedures as your situation is one that almost never happens. As far as we can tell, you did choose Star Wars in the Catalog and should have been sent there, but one of our employees in charge of your transfer made an error with her work. Rest assured, she has been fired and sent to a correctional facility to get her training redone as well as being blacklisted from working in the multidimensional transfer department.

Sincerely,

Agent Truabru Reiama

Hello Agent Reiama,

That sounds good and all but that also doesn’t help me with my situation. I’m starting here on a Tier 5 world budget in a Tier 10 world. That’s more than a 1,000 point difference. Am I going to get that point difference soon?

Hello Contractor Marris,

I apologize, but this isn’t something I can handle. I’ve already sped your case up to my higher-ups, but they are currently handling a much more sensitive case. Your case is currently on hold, and won’t be seen by my boss for some time.

Your apologies does nothing to make up for the damages I’m having to work with. Or the speed at which you’re working with me here. It’s been a whole month since my first message, and it’s taking your weeks between each snippets.

I am a Contractor with Tier 5 budget in a Tier 10 world. If it wasn’t for Contractor Interest giving me a steady payout, then I would be currently powerless with only Trace Defense.

Hi,

You’re my lawyer, right? I saw your email.

Look, I’ve been dropped into a Tier 10 world when I was supposed to go into a Tier 5 world. The agent working with me takes weeks to reply and then told me after a month that it’s going to take 200 years for my case to be “appealed.”

Can you help me here?

Sincerely,

Alan Marris

Hello Contractor Marris,

I’ve had a chance to look over your Catalog, current standing, and case.

I’m happy to tell you that you have a great agent. Most cases like yours would be ignored but instead, she managed to kick it up the chain with enough noise that they had to put it through the process. 200 years is actually on the high side, but most Contractors who make it past their first three worlds tend to live past a thousand easily, so this shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

As per the Company policy, the Company won’t fix any problems it may have with you until you have shown that you are an asset of good standing, which usually boils down to three qualities.

One, you must not have a negative balance in your budget. This is very important because it has a timer of ten years. If you go negative at any point in time during or after meeting the qualifier, you lose this and have to start all over again.

Two, you must have completed missions and/or made captures that together add up to at least a tenth of your world’s starting budget in line with your Intensity value.

Three, you must have been active in the past decade, and activity is defined by the Waifu Company law as “having contributed in tribute, taxes, companions, donations, or resources whose value equal at least one percent of an individual’s decennial income, both realized and unrealized.”

Until you’ve gained these three qualifiers to raise you up to good standing in the eyes of the Company, neither I or your agent have much we can do for you.

If you do gain at least one of the qualifiers however, then I might be able to negotiate for partial release of some of the funds you are due.

Sincerely,

Anantasha the Great

I let out a frustrated sigh as I entered my home.

It was a small hut that’s been my home for the past month, so, yes, it was my home, no matter how breezy it was during the night.

And speaking of breezy nights, I removed the final bundle of chopped logs and placed them next to my fireplace. With no one else to light or tend the fires, I had to reignite the hearth every time I wanted warmth.

I neatly stacked up twigs and other kindling before reaching over to the flint and steel I last left next to the fireplace. I grabbed it, and after a few clicks and flicks, got a small fire going. I blew into the smouldering ember and watched it grow into a small fire.

I fed it some more twigs and kindling before stacking slightly larger branches and wood and allowed the fire to eat at them.

Satisfied, I leaned back and stared into the fire.

‘It’s been a month since I came here,’ I thought to myself. ‘A month of hard labor and waiting for payouts from Contractor Interest.’ It gave me 2 points every three days. A full month got me 20 points and I wanted to spend it right.

Not just spend it for power but make it right.

A month was a long time for me to have thought about how I was going to spend it well, especially because it had been far more peaceful than I expected of a world in the Warhammer universe.

Like… not a single thing happened. I was the “new thing” that happened for this village, and they hadn’t been paranoid at all about a stranger showing up. Instead, they treated me kindly and generously. Oh, and they definitely worshipped the God Emperor of Mankind. The church was hard to dismiss nor the calm preacher who spoke about the righteousness of mankind and all.

I filled a thick clay pot with water and mashed grain and carefully put it over the fire to boil.

As I waited, my mind went back to what I would spend those 20 points on.

Honestly, I was worried about my prospects here. I didn’t want to be a medieval villager until I died a natural death but I also didn’t want to start acting out. Not yet at least.

I needed something to help me fit in yet also provide me with a means of advancing myself. I may not have an easy time here like I expected from Star Wars… but what was exactly stopping me from doing what I originally planned?

What stopped me from founding my own eternal kingdom?

But that meant that I needed to choose the right power or talent.

So.

I pulled out my Company phone and looked down at the two choices I’ve narrowed my first purchase down to.

Martial Talent, Body Talent, and Body Defense OR one Template?

With the former, I would start off very weak. Having talent gave no starting boost, after all. The latter would get me up to speed with some of the best mundane fighters in this setting or the low-end of the supernatural. If I got a Template of Superman, for example, then I would be powerful enough to tango with most low-end chaos daemons and come out of it fine and on top of that, I would have no weakness. However, I wouldn’t be able to no-sell Nurgle because that’s how powerful Body Defense was.

Sure, I’ll get them eventually. I just needed to wait eighteen days after getting a template to have enough points for Body Talent and Defense (because I needed the former for the latter). But what if this world got attacked by someone in the next ten days? Martial talent would get me that sweet sweet double EXP boost (metaphorically speaking) for all things related to fighting.

These choices mattered, and I found myself paralyzed. Oh, I was going to make a choice today before I went to sleep.

A/N: this is where you come in my Patreons and Ko-Fistas. This story will have junctions where it operates like a quest, but most of it will be under my direction. But the start?

You get to choose. It doesn’t have to be the combo I listed above.

You have 20 points. Waifu Catalog is open to you all.

Make your choice and write it down. And then we will allow RNGesus to choose.

Defend is best, methinks. And not getting nommed / fucked / mulched / strategized out of existence or other such bad end is a best start. After all is said and done, in-universe, life extending treatment is relatively available. So, yeah. Go full on defense with talents. Just, start small and discreet and then work your way up. There's always a bigger fish in 40K. So having a bigger hammer is not the answer. Subtlety and then badassery IS. Be like those Catachan natives that thrive in a Death World and killing your enemies by pure skills, rather than those Krieger that feed the enemy your lives.

Maybe a template for longer life span?

Defense is king in this type of situation

Sheldon

defense all the way

michael stitcher

The more i think of 40k the more i think that the difference between a win and defeat is just mere survival. Body defense is the first one because chances are even if its warp hijinks its the mortal component that kills most guardsman/serfs/humans.

Kasikan

He needs to make sure no one notices him. Then other sorts of defense. Getting noticed will end horribly even with the first level defenses bought. Last thing he needs is Chaos Marines, Orks or Tyranids coming for him. Let alone the godly ass holes that litter the place. Trace defense might protect him, but the people around him could notice something and it chains from them to whatever unholy thing is peaking at them thinking about how best to make them suffer before it consumes their souls. So some more ways to prevent being noticed should be first choice for that universe.

Defense is only correct answer

Jacob Malcolm

Get a exaltation it's literally everything you need if you have time to train

michael stitcher

The chaos gods and even eldar aren't all seeing, at least not until after you start making waves and change plans/fate. His powers are an out of context issuance so hypothetically would be below warp or song equivelent radar. Sure blank or the equivelent will be important, but most planets in warhammer are in themselves deathworlds of one sort or another. And he is dressed like a medieval serf or nerf herder (was scheduled for sw instead of 40k). He isn't even a snack in wh40k perlance, not yet at least l.

Dark epyon

Yea if he doesn’t get protections and get something’s going for him in that universe…. Theirs a very good reason Warhammer fans like the universe but would never want to be in it.

Defense is good, Im thinking of throwing Everlasting Talent into there too, so that he becomes ageless
