Can Pokemon into Naruto?

Chapter 36

-VB-

They failed.

His ninjas.

His shinobi.

His kunoichi.

His tools of war, subterfuge, sabotage, infiltration, assassination, and influence, each of whom were B-rank and even A-rank in their own rights, failed.

In his home territory.

And that was ridiculous. Unbelievable.

But what he wished to believe had nothing to do with his analysis of the situation.

One, he knew that multiple parties went for the healer.

Two, so far, only the Tokudaiji Clan and their retinue returned.

Three, the lord did not return with the healer but spoke at length in court about how he highly regarded the healer. He also made it clear that the healer was under his protection. To harm the healer would be to harm a member of the Tokudaiji Clan. In other words, angering one of the biggest factions within the Fire Court.

Four, this healer was once again proven to be real and competent.

Five, the monsters around the healers were very much real, which was shown by an abnormal bear cub that Tokudaiji Kan brought back with him. It was a monstrous thing with strength that rivaled genins.

Where did this leave Danzo?

He could not attempt another assassination or abduction so soon. Any ninja capable of dealing with the healer and his defending monsters and capable of being there in so short a time could only come from Konoha. Succeed or fail, everyone would suspect that Konoha was involved.

And he could not allow Konoha to be implicated when the consequences would be censure from the capital.

No.

He needed to go about this a different way, and perhaps, considering the healer’s capabilities as a force multiplier, this was better for Konohagakure.

He waved his hand and dismissed the ROOT agents rereporting to him, and stood up to the one place that should have been his.

Well, it would have been his if there wasn’t someone on par with him.

For all of his softness, Danzo recognized, acknowledged, and understood that Hiruzen might be the better “face” of Konohagakure than he ever would be.

He was not a dumb idiot who thought violence would solve everything. A state needed more than just power, and power alone could not maintain a state.

“A healer?” Sarutobi Hiruzen, the Third Hokage of Konohagakure, asked.

“Yes. He should be the same one that Jounin Kurenai met.”

It took Hiruzen just a few moments.

“Oh, what about him?”

“It seems that he has gained Tokudaiji Clan’s protection.”

“... He was that remarkable as a healer?”

“No. I suspect that while his healing may be a factor, it is his ability to create monsters that is far more impressive.”

“Monsters? You mean like the ones Kurenai saw?”

“Yes. Tokudaiji Kan brought one of them back with him, a bear cub with odd markings like it was a chakra beast. It has shown the ability to match a genin and it grows stronger every day. According to the kuge, this cub has been alive for only a few days when he first received it from the healer.”

Hiruzen leaned back, his brush, ink, and calligraphy momentarily forgotten.

“I assume you want to recruit this healer for Konohagakure.”

“Yes. Being able to produce animal companions to use as guards and back-up without being restricted by clan politics will empower the village.”

Hiruzen chewed on that thought.

“You told me he is under Tokudaiji protection.”

“If he chooses to come to us willingly, then what could they say?”

“You mean aside from angering one of the oldest family of Fire, a relative of the daimyo, and the clan with the most number of samurais, samurai clans, and unaffiliated ninjas?”

“... You know as much as I do that the Tokudaiji Clan is NOT as strong as they make themselves out to be.” Danzo knew that to be false, actually, considering that his own ROOT agents did not make it back. Kan himself took part in the battle against the ninjas sent against him instead of just letting his samurai fight, and seeing as his agents weren’t back, the once lean and mean samurai still had some edge to his meat.

“Considering that Tokudaiji Clan believes the healer to be worth their protection, the healer must also equally be worth recruiting. The worst we can do is try.”

“There is a high chance that we may strain our relationship with the court,” his friend

Hiruzen hummed. “We certainly can. How do you suggest we do this?”

By any means necessary.”

“For the last time, Danzo, domestic affairs don’t involve ‘by any means necessary’ operations of any kind,” Hiruzen grunted. “What happens if one of our ninjas accidentally kill a noble? Last time that happened, we lost several of our rights. And if I remember correctly, that ninja came from your faction.”

“If you had helped me cover it up, then it would have been fine.”

“The cover-up alone would have led to the deaths of multiple ninjas and even more nobles. It would have been the equivalent of butchering a man so that his common cold doesn’t affect the rest of the village.”

“Even a common cold can be deadly. You never know when it kills someone valuable to the village.”

Hiruzen sagged. “No. We are not doing an unrestricted operation. I’m sending Kurenai and her team over since she seems to have some kind of rapport with him. Do not interfere.”

The ‘or else’ was unspoken.

Danzo stared at his “friend” for a while before nodding. “As you wish, Hokage-dono.”

“I do so wish you were less prone to violence.”

“Alas, wishes have their limits.” With that, he turned around and left.

Danzo hummed as he left the Hokage’s Tower. He got everything he wanted out of this meeting.

Now, what he wanted to do was perform a thorough audit of his agents to see if they had been flagging in the few months he’s paid less attention to their training.

But if their training hadn’t been lacking?

The healer must be secured by Konohagakure.

By any means necessary.

Perhaps he should visit Kurenai after she receives the mission and leaves the tower. It wouldn’t be difficult to use his ROOT ANBU to slip in an extra order.

I also have a feeling that sooner or later that the nature of Pokemon will rub off on their owners as well. I can't imagine that guy looked at Teddiursa and didn't feel like a kid for half a moment, it's beyond adorable to look at.
