Tanya was middle management in HR so she knew all the ways to find loopholes in policies ans she's using it now to find loopholes in international treaties on war. "It's not a War Crime the First Time". Being X just put a new piece on the chess board to take out Tanya.

If you guys are enjoying the military/war aspects of this show, I think you might also enjoy a series called Heavy Object (one of my favs), which contains similar elements, but instead of mages, they have giant mechs, though not the conventional type of mechs you might think of. It's also very funny and has some great characters. I'd also recommend Black Lagoon (Dub cause it's funnier but still really good) and Jormungandr

Paldrun

Black Lagoon is really good and one of the few anime where even the dub is good.

Tanya personality Tl:Dr (from what is currently known, so no spoilers) Tanya is a rather twisted and confused sociopath. She is not only proud of her unit but genuinely cares for them. However it seems the root of these feelings is because they make her look good in front of her superiors. So she is extremely unforgiving to those who disobey but sincerely kind to those who adapt and follow her. This is also why she will follow even the most brutal of orders. As the LN often has Tanya state: "Laws aren't meant for breaking, they are meant for bending to protect you". So declaring everyone in the city as a combatant bent the rules to allow The Empire to blow it all up. That is what Tanya had submitted years earlier, and they implemented now.

Thing to keep in mind is that up until the end of WWII, following orders wasn't as optional as it is nowdays. Orders superceded ALL other rules of law. There was no defense if you refused to follow orders. Ordered to kill civilians? You did it or you were exectued and, depending on what nation you served, your family as well. It wasn't till the Nurenburg trials that was suddenly changed. Side Note: I'm not saying that there was nothing done wrong in the war, I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation up until that point.
