I especially love how Prometheus was just used to create beautiful and dramatic lighting. That transition scene was so amazing, when it cuts to Pedro's sacrifice on WCI i can't control my tears every time. But don't let the hype distract you from the heavy implication we learned here: That Luffy's dream that he told his brothers, the same words that Roger spoke, seems to be NOT just "I'm gonna be king of the pirates", but something more and unknown. Something that Ace wasn't supposed to tell, something a normal person might laugh at.

Ishitani started her career (please correct me if i am wrong) with Dragonball Super as an episode director and then moved on to One Piece after db super stopped airing. Then she directed episode 957, 982 and 1015, which is sadly her last episode that she directed. She storyboarded a short sequence in a later episode but that was it. She also directed opening 25 and 26 of One Piece and of course Fan letter. Her latest work was for the opening of Witch Watch which she directed and which is currently airing (2 eps are out by now).

For me, everything about this episode was perfect. Luffy and Roger. Ace and Yamato. Yamato's desperation turning into hope. Worst generation's entrance. Luffy walking past the emperors without a second thought. Kinemon's tears and blood. All the buildup of all the 1000 chapters. And finally, Luffy's determination to beat the shit out of Kaido for what he's done. There is a solid reason why I love this piece of media so much. It gives us hope, courage and resolve to pursue what we love and live freely. To me, it's the meaning of life.

I remember when I first saw this episode when it released, I re-watched this over and over and over again. This remains to this day one of my top 3 episodes.

Fun fact, the title for chapter 1000 was just “Straw Hat Luffy”. Chapter 999 was “The Sake I brewed for You.” Some of the fandom like to put it together making it “The Sake I brewed for you, Straw Hat Luffy”. Episode 1015 tying it together,really emphasizing the theme of Oden and Yamato waiting for Luffy.

Luffy’s dream is not about becoming the king of the pirates. He says it all the time that he’ll become the king, but that’s not his dream. Every time they hint about Luffy’s dream they’ll cut it out just before the answer. Same with Roger. Pirate king was just the title the world gave him.

Man, the comments really weren't exaggerating the Episode 1015 hype. The animation and soundtrack was truly astonishing. The transitions. That epic walk with strawhat and capae flying...man. Epic!

[8:16] OUCH. That hurts. And here I was hoping she'd tell him more about what his father was really like. But then I remembered in impel down he said he still hated him :/ [15:15] Same! Maybe because there was no recap? Man it was still very cool. Also that Momo finally got the journal. I'm only worried that Yamato might know a little too much about the one piece/history of the world. Not that she'd spoil that to Luffy, but she might let things slip out, like with the "D" to momo. [19:10] I got chills from that walk already. With the cape and hat reminiscent of roger. But this transition... and Luffy apologizing and Kin'emon trying to speak...man 😭 [20:45] This whole sequence was just juicy right up to the climax. [22:10] AND DAYUM - Kaido quicker on his back than Katakuri!
