Hey guys,

At long last we've just released an epic bumper HOUR LONG video in which myself and a motley crew of suspiciously eager volunteers try each of the unique iconic Japanese dishes at some of the best restaurants Tokyo has to offer.

Featuring Sharla, Connor, Pete, Natsuki, Alex and even Ryotaro, we got to a whopping 12 restaurants, showing you the full buffet of culinary treats awaiting you in Tokyo.

Shot over the course of 10 very intensive days in September, by the end of it I never wanted food again. But then watching this in the edit made me disgustingly hungry and now I want to revisit all the restaurants for round 2.

Over those 10 hot and tiring days we filmed a crazy amount of footage and there were a lot of funny moments that painfully ended up on the cutting room floor.

Check out this epic Patreon Exclusive video to see some of those deleted scenes if you're hungry for more and want to hear the final word on what my favourite stops on our tour were.

Damn Chris you're on a roll!

Thank you Chris for another great video. I also really liked your wacky weekend with Connor too, you better treat him good after that (camping next time with 2 amazon basic sleeping bags, I am sure that will repair all damages)

Currently still watching the main channel video (wow!) and trying to finish it before I go to bed - the bonus video will have to wait. But I love it so far!

Only one day left in Tokyo… How can I eat them all?😭

Chelsea Anderson

I’m heading to Japan tomorrow so this is ace Chris, thanks 😁

Lynda Shortis

Are we ever going to see your new earthquake documentary?

Thomas

I hope Paul got to try at least some of the foods.

Tommy

Chris! That video is two weeks late! I just returned from Tokyo yesterday 😩 ... But then it gives reason to plan already for the next trip 😊

Great video, seeing all the AiJ cinematic universe cast in one video was awesome, shame Joey & Garnt couldn't be squeezed in!

This is a sponsorship I am 100% behind. I've been really spooked about doing restaurant reservations in Japan, in the past I'd have to ask hotel concierges and stuff to do them. I've used tabelog for checking reviews, but never realized it could be used to book in English too. Thanks for the vid!

I mean it's obvious that we are, but he just released an hour long video for us lol

Hey Chris: You are my favorite youtuber. I had zero interest in Japan before i started watching your channel. I grew up in the rural east coast in the us,nd never tasted sushi until i was 30. T h ere were no ethnic restaurants in my lily white town. There in 1970 was the first Chinese restaurant and one pizzeria in our town of 40000. I now have been studying Japanese! What a tough language. Is there a language learning course you can recommend? Unfortunately I am in late stage cancer and I can eat Miso soup and nothing else from your show, but I love it! Your unknown friend, Larry PS Anyhow i wish you consistently post the price you pay. My youtube automatically goes on to the next vi d eo so there is nothing below.

20 tons of cheddar stolen from London shortly after the opening of Lost bar. Coincidence? πŸ˜„ https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/oct/26/jamie-oliver-asks-cheese-lovers-to-help-catch-cheddar-scam-thieves

They're the best kind of sponsor in the sense they helped arrange all the restaurants as well, haha. Getting clearance to film in Japanese restaurants is nothing short of a nightmare!

I was wondering how set up the whole thing was, given how Pete was clearly auditioning for NHK man-in-box-in-corner roles with his performance... (Bet it was still good though)

Chew know what? A cheeky 'how to lose weight in Japan' video series needs a revisit πŸ˜ΊπŸ—πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

A proper sukiyaki is expensive and for many Americans will be close to "pretentious" food, since it highly flashes the speciality beef. A lot of foreigners (from the west) also look down upon hot pots. All over Asia, we have a lot of proper sukiyaki restaurants - featuring cheaper wagyu bred outside Japan (typically Tasmania). And we China-fied these sukiyaki - instead of pure raw special farmed free range egg - we mix that with finely chopped garlic and thinly sliced spring onions. Again, a great cheaper compromise than a buttery A5 wagyu from Kagoshima or Matsuzaka. Kitsune udon/soba is named "fox", because foxes are the messenger of Kami Inari - a very popular Kami among Japanese industrials, because Inari gives blessings in form of harvest, fertility, profit, and wealth. One of the way to attract foxes is said to try luring them with the sweetness of abura age (seasoned fried tofu skin) - which is the main feature of kitsune udon - then you can speak your wishes to the messenger animal of the Kami. Conservely, sushi rice wrapped in abura age is called "Inari zushi" - after the Kami - also a popular offering in shrines dedicated to the Kami.

Damn that video made me hungry. Also, a video idea for next time: while I do love all the dishes presented here, my travel partner found them too "heavy" after a while. Could you do a similar video for healthy alternatives? Are there any common vegetable meals?

Matthew Gibbons

Content has been coming in fast and the quality is better than ever, thank you Chris. Enjoyed this one a lot.

Corey Ross

Sooo, you should do a video of the worst reviewed restaurants in the app. Haha. That would be a great comparison between this video.

VanillaCoke1956 .

I absolutely love the outro track. Every time I hear it, it takes me back to when I first discovered the channel

Ahh this was great! Between your recent uploads and the rv stream you’ve been feeding us good! The sukiyaki looked amazing!!

garrett1433

Hey Chris, out of all the restaurants, which one is the most budget friendly? My friend and I are going for round 2 to Japan in December and we were curious! :) love the video!!!

Phillip Steven Brown

Loving the content at the moment…. Always high quality and entertaining….. the opposite to mr Beast

Just spent 11 days in Tokyo and we found a pizza place that we liked so much we had 5 meals there, it is called Savoy in Asakusa, the guy makes it in front of you, Neopolitan style, very simple, was amazed to find good pizza in Japan.

Just watched American Pete’s stream he did in the bar, and thought he needs his own cocktail. A β€œwe pay in full”, a champagne/prosecco based one like a kir royale. Just an idea! 🍾πŸ₯‚
