Hey guys,

Hope you're having a good start to the week so far!

Just a quick tip I wanted to mention for those of you studying and practicing your Japanese.

Nearly all Abroad in Japan videos over the last 18 months actually have Japanese subtitles on (done professionally by a native Japanese speaker). As a result, surprisingly, it means the videos are really great way of practicing the language and seeing how colloquial expressions in English translate over to Japanese.

We originally put the subtitles up for the Japanese viewers, but recently I've been reading them as a way of practicing Japanese reading and common conversational expressions and it's been incredibly useful.

They're particularly useful in conversation scenes with Ryotaro, where you can see exactly how we'd have the same conversation in Japanese. All you have to do is hit the little 'cog' settings icon and choose 'Japanese" and away you go.

I think there are around 50 videos featuring Japanese; so 50 free practical opportunities to practice colloquial Japanese expressions!

- Great for beginner to intermediate learners.

Let me know if you find it useful at all!
Chris

Another reason to watch all your videos again, cheers Chris 👌🏻

It may sound like I'm pointing out the obvious here by the way - but I figured a lot of you guys may not have realized they were actually professional/good subtitles by a native speaker!

If we knew, we would have used it long ago. We taught our kids how to read English by making them read subtitles for their favorite anime. You’re amazing! Cheers 😎

Great Tip. My wife will love it, as a Japanese she don´t understand your "strange" English 😂😂😂

Hey that sounds like a great idea. Thanks for the help

I never even thought to look at the subtitles. That's a great way to get some exposure to the language. Thanks!

I didn't know. Time to revisit your videos, like returning to previous Zelda worlds with a new sword.

I will definitely take you up on this. I never read the Japanese subs on videos because I always assume the vlogger has done it themselves (no offense). It's because I know colloquial expressions are really tricky. But now that i know a native checked it, I will give it a try! Thanks for the tip!

I will start paying more attention to the subtitles !!!! Getting by by smiling and nodding and knowing the situation I am facing will get me in trouble here one day LOLOL

Oy Chris. I checked out the subtitles and I think it's a good idea. I would have to run back the vid to write what you said as well as the the accompanying Japanese text, followed by reading the Japanese aloud until it comes out sounding...'right'. どうもありがとうクリスさん
