Hey guys!

I hope you've all had a great week so far!

In this week's vlog I discuss the recent trip to film a couple of videos, the outcome of last week's speech to the high school students, whether or not I'll get a drone, and a weird turn of events that may or may not be a  big deal later this week!

As well as the vlog, I've also attached the presentation to this post, in all its glory, containing the 33 reasons to learn English; a collective effort and one which I'm grateful for! Many thanks for your help on putting it all together!

For now though, enjoy this week's vlog guys (in glorious 60fps) and I'll chat to you in the next few days!

Chris

watching this vid in 2020. hahahaha masks got real popular =/

Allie Gove

also. I think it's funny that you thought you'd travel less in 2018 =]

Thomas Coulton

Watching this almost 3 year later, wonder how the feeling about masks are today compared to then.

Marcus Budde

Nice and funny PowerPoint presentation. However, why did you rise the kids' expectation that English may help them travel also to France by including that Eiffel tower image? Admitted, you will still get better reactions than speaking German to the Frensh, but that does not make it a good idea.

Four years later and most of us have facemasks stitched to our faces, all across the world. Who'd have thunk it? And you met Watanabe San. Woop!

Great video, looking forward to the video about driving as that would be something I would plan on doing when I live in Japan. Also, it's been almost 2 years and you still haven't done your "tinder in Tokyo" 😜 and congrats with the award 👍

Anonymous

Grats on the award, whatever it is! :P

I just came back from Japan and actually had a short trip to Hokkaido myself from Nov 23rd until 25th. It was so fucking cold >_

I've been doing some "soul searching" too on my channel because I've not enjoyed making some of my videos lately. Looking forward to the comedy videos coming back or fun and games with Natsuki and Ryotaro. And good luck at the awards!!

Oh man the Powerpoint is bloody brilliant

You have one of those fan bases where you could make a video of you sitting there watching paint dry and it would somehow entertain us

Nynke de Haas

Wow, that's Chris Okano's drone shots in two other YouTubers' videos in one day! (he was also in Life Where I'm From today) I hope he got something out of it too :). Looking forward to the next few videos and news about that award!

Nynke de Haas

OMG I just kind of understood what Natsuki was saying in Japanese in the video at the end of the PowerPoint! Context helped, but that's never happened before! Awesome. And a fun presentation by the looks of it!

Looking forward to the travel videos and also next year. And have a nice time at the TV show :)

Laura Beaumont

Congrats on the golden diamond award! It will be interesting to hear what exactly it details. I like the upcoming year plan as well. I do miss the videos where you’re complaining about a hawk outside or reading out the hilarious hate commentary. Going back to your roots sounds fun!

What kind of computer is that behind you? Looks a cross between a desk top and a laptop.

Ryan Wolf

Alright, I guess I’m looking forward to next year then. I really love your older content and would to see more in that style. Traveling too much takes away a bit of the magic.

If you ever need a cameraman in Japan again just let me know. I’d be happy to help. Congratulations on the award.

Congratulations on the award (although the cynic on me fears that Ryotaro is luring you to some elaborate Japanese game show)! Looking forward to you making more of the content you love next year. Your earlier videos inspired me and my family to take our first trip to Japan last year, and you continue to assist us in our understanding and love of Japanese culture. In fact, I visited beautiful Kamakura and ventured into Shinjuku on your recommendation a couple of weeks ago, and we will be visiting the Tohoku region next autumn as part of a longer family trip. Thanks so much.

Hey mate, I'm excited to hear about the plan for next year! All the best and get well soon!

Nari Kim

Sweet! Excited!! Love the 60 FPS too!

Anonymous

I understand wanting to get back to your original style videos but please keep doing some of the travel style as well-they are great and helpful.

Anonymous

Oh hmm, good point. This may be part of another Ryotoro-is-trying-to-kill-Chris plot...

Anonymous

I'm so excited for you, congratulations :)

Errol246

Huge thumbs up for 60 fps! I smiled when you said that you would like to go back to doing comedy and commentary-oriented videos again. You're a great cinematographer and you have a sense of style in your editing that sets you apart from the rest, but I miss one-liners like "this coconut-mango-milk shake will make your skin three times less flammable" , and your parody of trendy and crowdpleasing YouTubers. I shall be looking forward to your futures. And congratulations on the award!

Delighted to hear about the award, I mention you a lot to my clients, and hopefully some of them will now realise that you are the person that their instructor AndMac keeps encouraging them to watch as an insight into how British people view Japanese people and culture.

Hopefully Ken Watanabe will be there ;=)

Apparently you have TWICE the amount of subscribers as Simply Red. Achievement unlocked.

It looks like a workstation laptop, Sherry. They're large, but powerful. Likely used for heavy duty editing of his videos.

Alexander

Yeah, travel videos are cool and all, but I'm really starting to miss the good old scripted videos :) looking forward to that :)

OT - wondering if you've seen the 'sponsor' option (button) that YouTube has started rolling out in Beta. I guess it's in response to the whole 'demonetisation' fiasco. I just saw it on Simon and Martina's latest video and it looks interesting but possibly not as flexible for supporters as Patreon.

Anonymous

Congrats on the award! Wonder if it's for the doco you did with NHK World. We saw that here in Australia and it was brilliant!!

Anonymous

i do miss those commentary videos!!!

Re rewatching videos, my fav of yours is the Crime in Japan/Cat Shit One video because it is so hilarious. I also like the crazy English ones, the videos about stores, fast food like McDonald’s and KFC. Do an Xmas in Japan vid please.

Anonymous

I wish those face masks were the norm here in the States. People come to work sick ALL THE TIME and it inevitably spreads throughout the department. YOU HAVE SICK TIME, PEOPLE, FREAKIN USE IT ALREADY.

Sophie Counsil

The hate mail videos are some of my favorites to re-watch. Really, you're the only channel (that isn't cooking) that I rewatch the videos from.

Just wanted to point out to everyone that MY REASON IS #4 in Chris' "Reasons to Learn English" presentation. And #17. Haha, suck it ;-) #ImHarry #AlsoJanet #AlsoLulu #MultiplePersonalitiesMuch

Puts Natsuki to shame with Coolness? I'll believe it when I see it.

Here in North America people don't give a shit about who they cough on. I mean, I've been on public transportation where I would literally feel the cough on my neck. As a result, I don't go outside anymore. I have a disease which can flare up when I contract a virus, and when it does, it gives me brain lesions. So to me, the Japanese people's face mask habit is horribly rare common sense. Face masks restrict the quantity of microdroplets which sprays in the air, carrying virus, when you cough (or even talk).
