Hey guys,
So this
morning due to some technical errors with today's new Abroad in Japan video, I've been up until 04:30am sorting the video and getting it uploaded (it's now up and I'm in shocked that it worked).

Now I'm supposed to be doing a live show in a few hours, but I suspect given I'll be lucky to have two hours sleep, I don't think I can pull off the live show to the standard we're typically accustom to.

With that in mind, I've rescheduled the Patreon live show to 22:00 JST on Sunday 28th.
(Updated times listed above).

I've not taken the decision lightly - this is the first time I've done this in 4 years of hosting a Patreon Live Show.

After all, these hangouts are one of the highlights of the month for me, as I enjoy chatting with you all, sharing news and revealing behind the scenes gossip! I want to make our time together count.

I can only hope most of you are able to still make the new time (and of course, as always it'll be uploaded to watch straight after the show).

Sorry for the inconvenience though guys, I can only hope this troublesome new video was worth the wait and all the hell I went through to produce it!

I hope to see you all tonight and apologies again for the sudden change of schedule.
Thanks everyone and enjoy the new video.

Can't wait to watch the video! Even though seeing you try to stay awake during a live stream would be hilarious, you need to go to bed Chris! Look forward to the live stream tomorrow

The new time is perfect for me, very excited to be able to watch one live. See you on the live show!

Chris! I won:t be able to see the livestream because its at night where i live, but i was wondering how long video editing takes for you. documentaries, travel vlogs, and sitting at home videos are all pretty different i bet. give an estimate for each if you can

No worries, hope you have a good rest. :)

Please go get some much needed sleep, love! 💙💤 Don't over work yourself, we'll be here no matter, don't worry. 😊 And you have nothing to apologise for, you work your ass off and i for one am quite grateful for what you do no matter when it gets put out or posted, and i am sure everyone else is too. Go get some uninterrupted rest, sans alarm. You honestly deserve all of the sleeps...💙🛌💤

Amazing video! And bonus I can now tune in 🥰🥰

Brilliant! I can go to bed! Much better time for me. The trend of you going to bed at 04:30 is worrying though...

Rest up bud! Great vid btw and ooh lala, looking fit. As for me, I shall go back to sleep on this fine Sunday morning. This may give me an excuse for an afternoon nap so that I can stay up to watch the live stream 😱

Time to get Final Cut ;-)

Hi Devan, Great question and honestly the answer varies greatly depending on each project. Interestingly, often videos of me sitting at home take longer as I have a lot more freedom to script, shoot and reshoot. For example, two of the vidoes this year with the highest production quality are the tsunami documentary the bullet train episode (from March and April respectively). They each took about 2-3 days to edit as once I had all the footage I simply had to cut it, add titles, soundtracks and a voiceover and it was good to go. Yesterday’s video was more like 7 days, due to the scenes with blue screen, the complicated Japanese tv sketch and various set pieces. I’ve got good at quickly cutting travel videos but these commentary style videos are much more creative and open ended, which means more time to experiment in editing. It’s rare for a video to take longer than 4-5 days to edit though (though obviously filming can take longer). Chris

I'm late to this party, but if you want to add another essential app for learning Japanese, look up the "Kanji study" app by Chase Colburn. It works well with Anki. It's an amazing app. For learning Japanese, I used and recommend four sources for learning. 1.) Aniki for memorization. 2.) Kanji Study for new vocab and example sentences. 3.) simulraido.info which is a website that has many links to live local community radio stations that are a great source of listening to Japanese on your commute (my favorite is ban ban radio). 4.) Discord for language exchange channels where you can get your questions answered. Here's a good channel: https://discord.gg/japanese

Great job on the new video. It is commercial production quality. Congratulations on reaching a high level of expertise on video production and editing.

Kanji Study is great. I know in the past I've recommended it to apple users though and it's not been available/ it's an old version. Maybe this isn't the case anymore!
