Unbelievable - not only did we smash the first $500 goal on the first day, but we've even passed the $1,500 target in the first 48 hours!

Thank you so much guys, you truly are  beyond awesome.

And to celebrate, we're off to Tokyo, to conceive the greatest series of Tokyo-related videos the world has ever known! And when I say I want the greatest Tokyo video series I absolutely mean it.

Until now there's been almost no videos on Abroad in Japan relating to Tokyo - as there's been a lack of time and resources. But thanks to you guys that'll all change. These videos are still in scripting phase, but expect a ton of clickbaitty type videos with titles such as;

15 Places You Need to See in Tokyo |  6 Places to Get Lost in Tokyo |  How to see Tokyo in 24 hours | 15 Things You Need to Eat in Tokyo |

Now you might be thinking, "I hate you, and everyone who makes those damn annoying clickbait titles" - but unfortunately, it does work and in order to succeed and stand out on YouTube it's necessary these days. But, expect the videos to deliver (because there's nothing worse than clickbait videos that are shit).Expect laughter, tears - and probably more.

The series of around FIVE videos will be filmed around August and September, hopefully released within the next three months and be close to TV level quality production-wise.

The series will achieve three outcomes:

1) To make viewers experts on the world's biggest city, so when you're in Tokyo, you'll be able to make the most of your time there when you arrive.

2) The Abroad in Japan channel will get some excellent exposure and become a thriving media empire.

3) We'll be a step closer to having our own exclusive Sake bar, where awesome Patreon supporters such as yourself, can come and enjoy free delicious sake and Natsuki's groundbreaking singing voice (because no good bar in Japan is complete without karaoke).

If you have any good ideas for things to include in the videos, or things you want to see, definitely leave your ideas and thoughts below - there's a pretty good chance they could feature, as we want to show you the very things you want to see.

Many thanks again guys - here's hoping you've had a cracking good start to the week so far.

P.S. The questions you've been submitting for the Natsuki Q&A  (on the above post) are absolutely hilarious. Really great stuff.

I would love it if you guys did an "of the beaten path" video for some of Tokyo's hidden a gems. Maybe check out shimokitazawa or some of the smaller neighborhoods or attractions that are only really visited by the locals.

abroadinjapan

I absolutely love Shimokitazawa - the most underrated place in Tokyo as far as I'm concerned. It'll definitely feature!

David Davies

If you could knock a couple of vids out and get that Sake bar open before my trip on the 22/10, that'd be awesome ;) Looking forward to the content, and congrats man, you've earned your support from us.

Yvette

When are they likely to reach our screens? Off to Tokyo in 3 weeks so was just hoping 😉 ps, congrats on reaching your target! It's no surprise tho as you're vids are ace and loved my most who watch them (I would say all but I've seen your 'hate mail' vids).

Lee Pinchbeck

Off to Japan on the 8/10. Any chance of a sneak peak before then? I second the 'hidden gems' idea. Already too many videos covering the same locations in Tokyo over and over. Need some local insight.

Steve Krecklo

I understand the need to use hooky clickbait titles, and hopefully the similarities end there. I sense you're with me on this one. We don't need another Robot Restaurant OMG WTF JAPAN video. With over 300k restaurants in Tokyo alone, hopefully you can wade into the deep end with these. Congrats on the Patreon success and Ganbatte!

Matthew Davies

Fantastic news Chris. Now I have a question for you: if you were to open your own sake bar, what theme would it be? Oh and never let me near any music equipment. I'll probably just put on that bopbeep song you "love" so much XD Anyway, well done on all your work so far, it's one of the best highlights of my week. Your channel is one of the biggest motivators that made me start Japanese. Best of luck to you both with this awesome-looking Tokyo series. Ganbatte. :)

Benjamin McKechnie

I am looking forward to this Tokyo series, all I really would like to see is you go to crazy random locations. Also I am voting for option 3 and am now interested in hearing Natsuki sing. Thanks for your videos Chris you are extremely funny.

George Mills

Please open a sake bar in Tokyo and name it 'For Fuck's Sake'. Sure to get everyone's attention. True to the word...drink sake and get fucked lol. Plus can have the slogan made famous by Natsuke - 'Go fuck yourself'. Or maybe I'm thinking about this too much. Looking forward to the Tokyo series. I'm sure you'll make it less mainstream, so will be interesting what you come up with! Jealous of your exciting Japanese life, so keep the videos coming.

Jason Lock

I genuinely can't tell if outcome 3 is a joke or serious. Please tell me it's serious. Holy shit.

Nick Fletcher

You should make your short film!

Aaron Bailey

Excited to see this Tokyo series, planning on going to Tokyo my self next year for 6-7 Days!

Build that empire, Englishmun

milk bread

Would love to see some places to visit/things to do that might not be quite as touristy; some underrated gems of Tokyo! Seriously excited for these videos!

Janelle

ramen tour. for sure.

Mathew Williams-breese

I'm just gonna go ahead and get the obvious ones out the way first: Karaoke bar crawl! Arcade marathon! Akihabara and the cosplay scene there! Temples and shrines!

abroadinjapan

All my favourite places in Tokyo are away from tourist spots - so I'll definitely be sure to include them

abroadinjapan

Haha, we tried to film twice actually. We once went to some upmarket cat cafe, but it was too full, so instead we went to an Indian restaurant and drink beer all afternoon.

abroadinjapan

It's the ultimate goal to be honest - and hopefully doable within the not so distant future. It wasn't supposed to be a joke though!

abroadinjapan

We've definitely got enough catchphrases to theme the bar / cocktails around. I can almost taste "The Sky of Time" cocktail right now.

abroadinjapan

The theme of it would have to be 80's - perhaps 80's retro. Stepping through the door to the bar would be like going back in time.

abroadinjapan

Yeah I completely agree - I'm fed up of seeing that Robot restaurant every where in particular. There's so much to do and uncover outside of the key touristy areas.

abroadinjapan

If it's edited together I'll send you something in advance! But if you have any questions you think I can help you with before your trip, don't hesitate to drop a private message!

abroadinjapan

Thanks Yvette! Yes, it seems you can't please everyone - although I'm grateful as those hate mail videos always go down very well, due to entertainment value! The videos won't be out until September/October sadly, but if you have any questions about things to do in Tokyo, or anything you think I can help you with regarding your trip, please don't hesitate to drop me a private message. I'll be more than happy to help!

abroadinjapan

The videos will be about between September and November - the sake bar may take a bit longer mate haha. But, if you have anything I can help you with regarding your trip to Tokyo, definitely drop me a private message and I'll be more than happy to help you out!

Courtney Elric-Reynolds

Yes! So excited!! I can add these to my list for my trip! Thanks Chris. Good luck in Tokyo's large crowds. I personally hated new York's crowds and it seems nothing compared to Tokyo!

Denver Dauthe

Oh goodness that sake bar! Are you trying to open it in Tokyo?

abroadinjapan

It would likely be the target, as it would be a bit difficult to get folks to come up north. Although then again, I guess it would feel like some kind of pilgrimage haha.

Nari Kim

Yay! I am really excited already!

Romano Basabas

So a sake bar, does that mean you'll be moving to Tokyo? Or will you be owning it from a distance?

Lee Pinchbeck

Why not have the bar in Sendai? More convenient for folks heading the to the fox village or other more northerly sights. Plus, I would presume, cheaper which means cheaper drinks for everyone.

Liam S. Crouch

"The Abroad in Japan channel will get some excellent exposure and become a thriving media empire." Damn chris, First youtube, then world domination

Liam S. Crouch

I bothered Chris about arcades half a year ago or something. I recall him saying he had never been to one. I don't think Chris is an arcadey person, but i'd love him to do an akiba crawl

Jeremy Carlson

Honestly, your videos on learning Japanese are what drew me to your channel. I would like more of those. How you got difficult parts of the language to click would be a good one. Like freakin' particles. Ugh. Also, something on what parts of western culture are popular in Japan and why...like 7/11 - why the hell? Don't they have their own brand of convenience stores? Cause it doesn't have a great rep here. I just didn't expect to hear KFC and 7/11 were popular there.

Joshua Ives

$2k is just a breath away.

David Davies

Cheers Chris, I appreciate it. I've dropped you a line although I know you'll be inundated with messages from others as well!
