It's been a strange month.

Back in August, to my surprise, I discovered I'd won a competition I'd entered earlier this year (called Tohoku 365), where the winner would receive funding to go around Tohoku region for one whole month in search of north Japan's best food.

At the time I was delighted (and surprised) to discover I'd won it and whilst the month long trip is now over and I was able to film an awesome 6 part video series about Japanese food, the unexpected month away just blew a hole through my Autumn schedule.

So for some of you guys who've noticed an eerie silence surrounding all things Abroad in Japan recently, I sincerely apologise. Winning something (for once) wasn't something I actually anticipated - and I've only just got my schedule back on track.

ALAS! The good news is I return from the journey having filmed many great things and you can watch a preview of the upcoming series here: https://youtu.be/0n6yLPKQ3Yg

It's exciting as this could end up being one of the most comprehensive Japanese food related series ever on Youtube. It's a 6 part series and hopefully by the end of it, you'll all be experts on Japanese cuisine.

At the same time, I've also been filming various other videos and the schedule starting this week is shaping up to be quite fun (here's a rough order):

 • Don't Get Fat in Japan (pictured above)
 • 6 Must Try Japanese Foods | Miyagi (filmed)
 • Tokyo's Greatest View | 4 Spots Reviewed (filmed)
 • Japan's Most Expensive Beef (filmed)
 • 4 Ways Living in Japan Changed Me (filmed)
 • 6 Must Try Japanese Foods | Iwate (filmed)
 • Natsuki Q&A (Patreon only) (filmed)

Also, thanks to you guys, we passed several reward tiers in the last few months on Patreon, which are currently being filmed. The $1000 level was a Tokyo based series, and $1,500 was a travel video with Natsuki.

It seems by popular demand, everyone wants Natsuki and I to explore Akihabara in Tokyo, so through November and December we'll be working on the Tokyo series, with Natsuki appearing in many videos along the way.

FINALLY as for "Natsuki: The Movie", I'm meeting with some filmmakers in a couple of weeks to discuss a few grand ideas and in the coming weeks, I'll be turning to you guys for more ideas and inspiration.

Seeing as this post is getting so long it may explode into a black hole and consume us all, I'll wrap things up here for now.

But apologies once again guys for the sudden radio silence - in future I'll post more updates on here to keep you posted.

The next video will be "Don't Get Fat in Japan" in which I go on a rant at just about everyone and everything, bring in an adorable new character, and have a mental breakdown.

Fun for all the family.God bless the fuzzy wuzzy fun club.

One of the few YouTubers who delivers more than he promises. Keep up the excellent work, Chris senpai.

Many thanks! Honestly, I feel like a bit of a dick this month for the delays - but it'll be worth it for the educational food vlog series!

Does the Natsuki Q&A Count as this month's Q&A or will you do a separate one?

abroadinjapan

It's separate! The Natsuki Q&A is the Patreon $500 reward and it's already been filmed. I put questions to him submitted by Patreon supporters back in September. We were just a bit late in finding the time to film it! As for this month's live Q&A, I'll be posting about it imminently.

You're doing great work and looks like enjoying yourself Chris, keep at it. Did you win the competition because of your social media presence or was it a random lucky draw thing?

abroadinjapan

Social media presence played a role but ultimately I think it was the application video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1mA1tRxoHE

I figured there'd be more to it than luck! Sweet though. I've got a trip arranged to LA to watch the election in a couple of weeks, first time going on such a long trip, my plan is to finally hit Japan next year ;)

I've been trying to eat healthily for the past month or so and now there's a 6 part series with delicious Japanese food? Oh god, this is gonna hurt.

Honestly Chris, if I had gotten nothing for my $5 a month other than that photo above, it would have been well worth it. Cheers, and thanks for the laughs.

And just when i was starting to think 'He's taken our money and run! The scoundral!' Really glad to see a wide variety of new videos coming and i'll be sure to get my questions ready for the Q&A.

Now I can't help but feel slightly disappointed by my microwaved steak and kidney pie, purchased from the reductions chiller of my local Co-Op petrol station served with instant Lidl gravy made in a coffee mug. Maybe if I close my eyes and peg my nose I can imagine it's a fine so-rare-its-still-mooing kobe beef steak sizzling away on a teppanyaki. #nojusticedelicious Looking forward to the Tohoku gourmet tour!

No worries Chris! My $5 donation is because I think you're fantastic! I'm more than happy to support your silence and wait for some delicious Abroadin' content! x

Your silence is a promise of great things to come.

I'd love to hear about the premise of the Natsuki movie. I hope you're also co-staring! :D

Oh bloody brilliant. my question of the month I asked was about food, which I asked just before realizing this was thing lol. well, I suppose that answers that question.
