If I had a nickel for every time Patrick Seitz voiced the father of a shounen character with fire based powers, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened more than once.

#sundayrundown Man This is the episode of epsiodes. The amount of crazy relation between Ichigo and Uryu is amazing and the way his mom death was in first 10 episodes of OG bleach foreshadowed to be revealed now is evidence of amazing story writing of Tite Kubo

Conflictor

Bleach TYBW Episode 11 EVERYTHING BUT THE RAIN Keyword Page 1: Unagiya (“Eel Shop”) "An Odd jobs shop run by Ikumi Unagiya. Since she uses her surname as the name of the shop, it's mistaken for an eel shop (Unagiya = eel) and she often receives calls for orders of eel. The strong-willed and strong-armed Ikumi is raising her son Kaoru, while also managing the Unagiya shop business. There are no employees and Ichigo is the only part-time worker. She watches over him from time to time as Ichigo frequently slacks off, so Ikumi sometimes comes to school to bring him in. However, their relationship is not necessarily bad; Ikumi is like an older sister to Ichigo and looks after him like a guardian, sometimes harshly and sometimes gently." Episode 11 Keyword Page 2: Masaki Kurosaki "Ichigo's mother. Kind, cheerful, big-hearted and bright like the sun, she is adored by everyone and is the heart and center of the Kurosaki family. 9 years ago, on June 17th during a heavy rainstorm, she lost her life protecting a little Ichigo from a hollow named Grand Fisher. Ichigo felt a guilty remorse for having taken his mother away from his family and lived his life determined to at least protect them himself. After becoming a Substitute Soul Reaper, Ichigo confronts Grand Fisher again, but fails to finish him off, making him feel even more guilty. However, his father Isshin reminded him that Masaki risked her life to protect her son and he should live to honour her memory. Later, Grand Fisher, who had become an imperfect Arrancar, was annihilated by Isshin with a single sword strike. For the record, in the Kurosaki family's living room, there is a huge portrait of Masaki with the words ‘Masaki Forever’ written on it, and the whole family always visits her grave on 17th of June every year. Masaki still lives on in the heart of the family."

#sundayrundown, remember long ago when Aizen said he knew of Ichigo since before he was even born? This all being planned from the beginning is wild

I

Not Rana just correctly guessing everything regarding Ichigo lmao. Also, Chris's reaction to ole boy's face being split in half did not disappoint lol.

iman

Bleach#SundayRundown Suraj hit the nail on the head at the end there, Aizen did indeed wait and used Ichigo to be apart of his plans. He is the "superior outcome" that was alluded to. Not only this, but Aizen had said directly to Ichigo in the Fake Karakura Town arc that he's known about him since the day he was born. After all, he's the child of a human and a soul reaper. Kubo had Isshin interrupt him to show off a flashy reveal, but also to stop Aizen from talking even more. It was also around this time that we saw Isshin and Ryuken interact for the first time in the series, and you guys speculated that they knew each other through Masaki, which turned out to be true.

All Mighty Lowercase Jay

#sundayrundown #bleach So just to clear things up a bit there are 2 types of quincy. Echt Quincy who are Pure Blooded and Gemischt are mixed blood. The quincy's practiced bloodline purity which is why Masaki was being married off to Ryuken.

Conflictor

He also voiced the iconic DIO as one of the fathers of Giorno from JoJos.

Kuro

Just a small cultural clarity, in asia it isnt uncommon to call someone uncle or auntie as a sign of respect. So when Masaki calls her Auntie, it doesn't mean there is a blood relation. She is a Pure Blood Quincy taken in to basically marry and have kids with Ryuken to have more pure blood Quincy. For Isshin, here is some facts on his Zanpakuto. Engetsu which means Scathing Moon, a flame type Zanpakuto and it's release command is Burn. Kubo has also confirmed in Klub outside it is possible for Parent and Child to have similar techniques or Zanpakuto. Engetsu (Scathing Moon) and Zangetsu (Slaying Moon) also he has performed Getsuga Tensho on Aizen during the war but unlike Ichigo, it is a short range attack and a flame type. As for his Bankai, sadly we didnt get to see it, as i have mentioned in the past, performing Bankai increase your power by around ten fold and they can be a heavy burden on the user and body, hence why they're not upkeep for long durations unlike Ichigo whose special feature is condensing his power and can be used for long durations with very little loss in power. But for Isshin, his bankai is such a heavy burden he couldnt use it after Aizen slashed his back. Not to mention he might have the restraint automatically placed on him which caps his current power, the same one we see when Hitsugaya, Rangiku and Renji had to release during the Arrancar invasion.

#SundayRundown #BLEACH Everything But The Rain was my favorite story section in the manga. All the reveals in TYBW are satisfying, and the ones here are just insane. This is the first time "Echt Quincy" has been mentioned, by the way.

Dirty_Oldman

#Sundayrundown Echt Quincy is just a pure-blooded Quincy. Gemischt is a Quincy of mix blood.

bondbond53

Seeing Navi and Rana argue that Ryuken is hotter and Pat and Suraj argue that Isshin is hotter is like seeing the difference between Yaoi (gay manga mainly written and targeted towards women) and Bara (gay manga written and targeted towards men) lmao.

#SundayRundown Bleach TYBW Like this up if they should put Cour 1’s finale Eps 12 & 13 together next week (or after next week to give Chris time for his uncut reactions) since that’s how they aired. Ladies & Gentlemen, We have arrived at Peak Fiction Of The Highest Degree. From Nothing Can Be Explained with Pain in the Rain To Everything But the Rain— “REVERT YOUR ROOTS” -The main theme of this part. And The most endearing “How I Met Your Mother” story ever. The title, "Everything but the Rain" is a parallel nod to the tile of Episode 8 “June 17th, Memories in the Rain” (which is also the month this whole arc takes place) and why Ichigo hates the rain so much. In the OG series we saw that it was raining when his mom died, he even said it himself. Whenever Ichigo goes through something, it's always raining; when he got his powers stolen by Ginjo, when Soul Society was ravaged by the Quincies, and even now in this episode where Ichigo is having an existential crisis. Ichigo is willing to deal with "Everything but the rain", no problem with hollows, quinces, soul reapers and bullies... so long as it doesn’t involve rain (similar to those with internal physical problems like arthritis but here more mental) He hates the rain cause his mother died when it was raining, cause of the rain his mother had to come get him, and he basically indirectly got her killed by trying to be kind to a lonely girl he saw in the rain. So whenever Ichigo is sad, depressed or truly lost, it rains. Even his inner world/soul gets flooded by the rain and is reflected on and expressed by Old Man Zangetsu. It's a symbolic way Kubo depicts Ichigo's mental state, it's a bad omen for Ichigo. Even when Byakuya was seemingly dying up to when his bankai got broken, it was raining due to Yamamoto's bankai and throughout all that Ichigo was very distraught and in despair from being unable to protect anybody. He hates the rain cause it has never brought him happiness, but this episode also works towards interpreting the rain as a blessing as well. Without the rain, Isshin wouldn't have met Masaki. So while the rain brought "White" with it into Ichigo's life, it also brought his parents together. Very peak fictionally and poetically ironic. Everything about this episode was perfect to the point where I even got low-key emotional at Masaki’s introduction/full meeting with Isshin, and Masaki savagely allowing White to charge and attack her while she blasts it’s head open was Gangster. Also in regards to what Ryuken said to Masaki, “Echt” = Pure blooded Quincys which is what they both are, while “Gemischt” = Mixed as in mixed blooded Quincys, like the Maid. And Seiren = Sacred.

Brandon

#Sundayrundown# I know you wanted to do one espiode a week but is it possible to get episode 12 and 13 next week because they aired two espiodes when it came out

Luke

"You guys suck his d***!" LMAO

Zee

12 & 13!

Dirty_Oldman

You’re right I misspoke. He was talking his Heiling Pfeil. Both of you are correct.

Gremmy Thoumeaux

#SundayRundown: Bleach Imagine how Rana must feel that y’all unknowingly gaslit her into thinking Aizen was going to tell Ichigo back then that he was human and….Soul Reaper. The true answer was Quincy since that’s what Ichigo is born as but the series does a good job having Isshin show up as a Soul Reaper making most audiences think it was Soul Reaper as an answer. Rana was right to suspect more since Aizen was cut off.

Gremmy Thoumeaux

#SundayRundown: Bleach It’s funny to imagine that every time Rangiku and Toshiro were in Ichigo’s room, all they had to do was go downstairs to reunite with their former Captain. According to Kubo, they do know Ichigo is his son when they arrived in the human world. Not sure when or why they didn’t approach Isshin but it’s possible that they avoided Isshin out of respect for him finding a new life in the World of the Living.

Dexter Gaba

#SundayRundown Isshin rushed to the human world without informing the head captain, so it’s believed he still has a limiter on whilst fighting White. Also, Surj and Chris had the exact same reaction to Ichigo and his Dad talking “AND WHOS FAULT IS THAT?!” 🤣🤣

Kail Andrews

#SundayRundown Isshin’s shikai Engetsu was revealed to be a fire type Zanpakuto, but with the unique property that blood increases its power output. Also the anime cut a line from the manga for unknown reasons, but it was describing how he has unable to activate Bankai due to his wounds, because his Bankai causes a lot of strain in his body. Another minor detail is that if you remember, Captains get a seal implanted on them the moment they leave for the human world, since Isshin left in a hurry and without authorization he could not get the sealed removed for the battle so he fought White at 25% of his strength. Also is kinda funny how Aizen saw the situation and said: “Let see were these goes”, like implying he knew they would clap or something.

Nabeshin

To be fair, as Isshin points out, Ichigo DID tell him to wait until he was ready to talk.

Jason Mclean

#SundayRundown this episode ties partly into episode 296 of bleach..basically answering Ichigo questions about his past

Annah Suarez-Domit

#Sunday Rundown Everything but the Rain let's go! Time for some trivia. So rain is a recurring motif for Masaki. The episode dealing with Grand Fisher and her death was called Memories in the Rain. Also related to Isshin being the captain of Squad 10 you might be wondering 'did Toshiro and Rangiku just not see him when they were at Ichigo's house in the world of the living?' Well Tite Kubo said that they did see him but Squad 10 aren't snitches and they saw he was happy so they didn't say anything. For some language lessons the word Echt, as in the Quincy liniage that Ryuken and Masaki are a part of, means Real in German. Meanwhile Gemischt, the Quincys that are the servants, means Mixed. Now onto fan theories. When this chapter came out some people made some connections between Ichigo and Uryu. You see when Tsukishima edits memories with Book of the End he usually takes the place of a person in those memories and he pretended to be Ichigo's cousin. That implies there is a cousin of their's that they hadn't seen since a grandfahter’s funeral. Isshin obviously doesn't have any human relatives and Masaki is an orphan so people think that the funeral Karin and Yuzu mentioned was for Ishida's grandfather from his backstory and that 'cousin Shu' was actually cousin Ishida and that it had been so long Ichigo and Ishida forgot that they met at the funeral.

Jason Mclean

From episode 296 to now and like 10 years since the anime was on lol, luckily I read the manga cause waiting on the anime would be like Szayelaporro Granz waiting for the sword to pierce my heart 🤣

Alex M

#SundayRundown #Bleach And we get the reveal finally! Isshin used to be a captain. Also, his maiden name is Ishin Shiba, as in, Kaien Shiba, Ganju Shiba, Kukaku Shiba. They’re all related!! This explains why Ichigo looks exactly like Kaien, just with different hair color. Ishida and Ichigo are NOT cousins. The Ishida’s were just taking care of Masaki at the time (understandable misunderstanding though!) Also, i love the way you can immediately tell that Ichigo got his smile from his father, and his sense of heroism from his mother <3

Tcrimson05T

I remember reading these 10 years ago as they came out. "Everything but the rain" was just fantastic. And well worth the wait. What you thought you actually wanted from Bleach was more fights and power-ups but what you actually want is a bleach slice of Life anime.

Smash Bran'Discootch

You have not heard Echt Quincies mentioned before. The anime never explains it outright, but the manga tells you that an Echt Quincy is a pure blood quincy.

Trevor

#SundayRundown Remember when Aizen was talking to Ichigo about how he had been watching him since he was born how Isshin cut him off when said, "Because you are a human and a..." Most fans believe that it is because he was going to say Quincy, not Soul Reaper.

Tristan Harley

#SUNDAY RUNDOWN (Things you may have missed + Manga Differences)Tried to keep this different from the other comments for y'all. - When Ryuken asks his Mother where his Father was, she remarks that he's out at the 'Funft Feld" which is a Quincy training ground. She also remarks that he's not really around, and Ryuken tells Masaki that his Mother is taking her lonliness out on her. This is interesting in how it informs the relationship Ryuken has with his own Father, who was never around due to his duties as a Quincy, and how Ryuken is quite distant with Uryu, due to him refraining from his duties as a Quincy. It makes it all the more ironic that Uryu became close with his Grandfather through training as a Quincy. - In the Manga, Isshin was actually about to use his Bankai against White. That's when Aizen cuts him and remarks that "Captain Shiba's Bankai put's a great strain on his body. He won't be able to use it with that wound." And yes, that means you did NOT see his Bankai here. The flames were his Shikai. - There is a fan theory that the definition of "Vasto Lorde" class hollows were derived from Isshin's encounter with White here. Since he was so strong, 'Vasto Lorde's were deemed as 'Humanoid Hollows that are just as strong as Captains'. But that's just a theory. A FILM THEORY. - Chris skipped both after credits scenes of episodes 10 and 11 lol. And after all the warnings this community gave y'all about not skipping the ending, tsk tsk.

Shenahatsu Kyjiin

#SundayRundown [Tidbits][Lotta Reading, Apologies] - Ichigo running away from the conversation was always a nice bit for me because it's not the 1st time he's done so, Ichigo will run head first into a physical fight but battles that deal with the mind and soul scare him. [Definitions for Some of those Quincy Words] - Seiren is the name for Quincy Training it means "Holy Training" -Funfte Feld is a training location for Quincy (Given what Ryukens mother says, it can be assumed that his Father spends more time training his Quincy abilities than with his family) - Echt Quincy are Quincy that are part of pure-blood lines (He we learn that both the Ishida and Kurosaki families are Pure-Blood Quincies) (Quilge J-The Jail was one, and many Assume Haschwalth is as well) - Gemischt Quincy are Quincy with mixed blood and seem to be of somewhat lower class than Echt Quincy - Many people were confused by Misaki calling Ryuken's Mother "Aunt Izumi" seeing as tho there seems to be some talk of marriage, but this is more a matter of honorifics and not an actual direct blood relation. Misaki is simply the last living member of a pure-blood Quincy Lineage. (we don't know exactly how related the families were if it all aside from being Pure Quincy) (Also Yhwach is the Father of Quincy, the Quincy King) - Aizen, Gin, and Tosen are using the Cloaks that Hide people's spiritual presence. Urahara invented and used it during the Turn Back the Pendulum flash back to sneak up on Aizen. - In the manga when Aizen slashes Isshin, we learn that he does so to stop Isshin from using Bankai, apparently Isshin's bankai takes a toll on his body so he can't activate it if he's sustained a certain amount of damage - Given the conversation between Aizen and Tosen, they made White to hollowfy Shinigami, White seems to have chosen Misaki to hollowfy, which clearly has never been done. (It was cool to see something that genuinely excites Aizen, cant forget that he's a scientist and the idea of discovering something new truly excited him) - Sidenote: The 0 Squad is made up of characters who are hard to relate to, this is because they are very blatant and don't really care to pander to emotions, this is done intentionally to showcase a sort of separation between them and normal Shinigami or People. From the interactions we've seen thus far, whenever a 0 squad member isn't goofing off they act in a very blunt and almost uncaring manner making them somewhat unlikeable (not only for some viewers but as we saw most of our captains seemed to be at odds with the 0 Squads arrival) - Sidenote 2: The reason Ryuken Ishida questions the idea of happiness and Marriage is seemingly linked to his upbringing, we heard the mom talk as if the Father isn't really around and that he's at the Funfte Feld. This means that the Father spends more time devoting himself to his Duty as a Quincy vs caring about family and happiness and Ryuken is likely trying to follow in his footsteps (This is all-important in that we know that he later seems to be opposed to fulfilling any type of Quincy Duty and didn't want Uryu to do it either, maybe he wanted things to be different for Uryu)

SageTheChosen

You guys actually got there, OH my god you figured it out in the conversation instead of just confusing each other further, Im so proud of you guys lol

Denickart

It's just a language thing. In Japanese the word for auntie also means older woman.

Anateres

Bro please comment in 1 paragraph and please comment few words. It iz daunting to read this

Jesse Gallimore

This episode gives a whole new meaning to Aizen's claim to Ichigo that he's known about him since before he was born.

Patrick

you've replied with that on two separate comments. You know you don't HAVE to read the comment, right?

Shockzz1234

Yeah this needs to be read on the Sunday Rundown, absolutely. Banger comment.

Shockzz1234

I just love Aizen's "wait! Let them cook!" moment. He has no idea what is going to happen really, but he's a pure scientist through and through, he can't help but be curious as to where it can potentially all go and gets excited. Probably the only time we see him get so "giddy" lol.

Shockzz1234

Technically it wasn't ALL planned tbf, it was just a stroke of luck that Masaki and Isshin crossed paths. And Aizen let it happen in the heat of the moment because his curiosity got the better of him, as it does with all great scientists.

Shockzz1234

#Sunday Rundown - This episode shows that even though Aizen claims he had it ALL planned out, he didn't really plan for this to happen. Isshin and Masaki meeting was pure luck and Aizen winged it on the spot and let them interact when he (or rather Tosen) could have killed Masaki right there and then. Aizen holding him back and essentially going "nah let them cook" is like, the only time you see Aizen with such "joy" in this face, he's truly a scientist through and through, he saw the opportunity for something weird and unique to happen and, in the heat of the moment, got excited and let it occur. "Ah who cares if White died, we might get something better! Or not. Let's see!" He planned a lot after this of course, but this Ichigo experiment happening in the first place? Pure luck lol. He even says it himself, sometimes straying from the goal can yield superior results! Wonder if present day Aizen regrets this choice lol, but probably not, a bit of him is probably happy at least, I bet. Especially given the whole "Aizen might be lonely and was longing for someone to be on his level" stuff that Ichigo got from clashing swords with him in their final battle.

Yoxxhio

echt quincy just means they are pure blood. the maid person who was around ryuken is a mixed breed

Kefka Palazzo

Why does Chris keep skipping the end stuff before the poem? He's done this twice so far.

Nick A Sam III

#SundayRundown -- Kubo used parallels between Masaki and Isshin to hint at Ichigo's own romance. Masaki extends her arm and lets white bite her shoulder/neck to draw him in and get the kill shot (protecting Isshin). Orihime in like episode 2 or 3 does the same thing, extending her arm and letting her brother bite her shoulder, so Ichigo could move in for the killshot (helping/protecting him). History repeats itself.

KING ICHIGO

I think u should watch the last two episodes of this part together its a better experience, on the day this episode drop studio perriot drop two episode in the same day to make the finally even better

Tafadzwa manzini

best comments so far according to AI . they cover everything in the least amount of comments 1. After-Credit Scene Importance Key Point: Several fans insist that the after-credit scenes carry crucial lore that shouldn’t be skipped. Twiska Brand noted that Chris should watch the skipped scenes in Bleach (the skipped end-credit scene in episode 10) to avoid missing important details. dugnutt echoed this, urging someone to inform Chris that after-credit scenes aren’t optional since they add extra context. Tristan Harley also mentioned that Chris skipped the after-credit scenes for episodes 10 and 11, highlighting that these segments contain vital plot hints. 2. Family Backstory & Character Revelations Isshin’s Past and Family Ties: Jason Mclean provided insights into Isshin’s background, explaining that he once was a captain and his maiden name is Ishin Shiba. This revelation ties him to other Shiba family members (like Kaien Shiba) and explains Ichigo’s striking resemblance to his father. Alex M reinforced these details by clarifying the family relations and emphasizing how Ichigo inherits his smile from his father and his heroism from his mother. Additionally, it’s pointed out that the Ishida family were guardians for Masaki, and as Alex M and Jason Mclean mentioned, Ichigo and Ishida aren’t actually blood relatives. 3. Expanding on Quincy Lore Quincy Terminology and Heritage: Shenahatsu Kyjiin and Dirty_Oldman both explain the terms Echt Quincy (pure-blooded) and Gemischt Quincy (mixed blood), clarifying that this distinction is central to understanding the Quincy society and their training methods. All Mighty Lowercase Jay and others further note that the Quincy’s bloodline purity is a recurring theme, with training grounds like Funfte Feld and concepts like Seiren (sacred training) being integral to their backstory. 4. Symbolism of Rain and Its Thematic Weight Key Point: Rain is a recurring motif that signifies both tragedy and transformation. Annah Suarez-Domit highlighted that rain is a key element—its recurrence in scenes (like the episode “Everything But The Rain”) connects directly to Masaki’s death and Ichigo’s ongoing emotional turmoil. Conflictor expanded on this by drawing parallels between the rain’s symbolism and Ichigo’s personal struggles, emphasizing how the rain reflects his inner world and fate. 5. Aizen’s “Let Them Cook” Approach Key Point: Despite Aizen’s claims of meticulous planning, some events (like Masaki and Isshin’s meeting) appear to have unfolded by chance. Shockzz1234 remarked on Aizen’s rare moment of excitement when he “let them cook,” showing that even his carefully laid plans sometimes gave way to spontaneous, unexpected outcomes that ultimately shaped Ichigo’s destiny. 6. Episode Format and Production Choices Key Point: The release format (airing two episodes together) seems designed to maximize impact. Potatex and Conflictor brought up the fact that episodes 12 and 13 were released together, suggesting that this format enriches the storytelling by allowing viewers to experience a more cohesive narrative.

Marius Reini

The guy in the white hood standing in the rain with Uryu was Jugram, the blond pretty boy quincy who broke Ichigo's bankai

In Mexico we also call any older female woman Tia. Usually your madre e padre’s friend but also sometimes as a respect thing or if they’re your buddy’s mom.

#SundayRundown #Bleach Can someone in the normies please inform Chris that he is NOT supposed to skip after credit scenes! He's done it twice already. There will be many more after credit scenes in the future. Please help him out.

Jason Mclean

#SundayRundown In this episode you see where Ichigo gets his personality from his mom wanting to help even one person is something that Ichigo would do. He is much like both his parents. Side note Azien in a way is part of Ichigo's family tree because he created the Hollow White his "Child" Azien is a Grandfather sort of. From Kubo himself: because the creator, Tite Kubo, wanted to evoke the color white, which is associated with "bleaching" something dark, contrasting with the black robes worn by the Shinigami (Soul Reapers) in the story; essentially, he chose "Bleach" as a way to represent the concept of cleansing or purifying souls, which is a key theme in the series. Key points about the title "Bleach": Original idea: Kubo initially considered calling the series "Black" but thought it was too generic, then decided on "Bleach" to represent the opposite color. White association: "Bleach" is used as a metaphor for the color white, which is connected to the Shinigami's role of collecting souls. Contrast with darkness: The title plays on the idea of "bleaching" something dark, like a black robe, to make it white.

dannydarko27

Not Chris skipping a whole ass scene

Tristan Harley

I mean, the other one, sure that's a lot. But my one? It's really not that long. Mid size comment I would say. Suraj back me up

Potatex

Are you guys going to react to 12+13 next week since both episodes came out at the same time?

Kayso

This episode was so top tier I love all the reveals we got. Its really movie quality. Can't wait till we get more explanations next episode.

Twiska Brand

#Sundayrundown You should tell Chris to watch the scenes he skipped in Bleach and not to skip more in the future. Like for episode 10, he literally skipped to the middle of the end-credit scene, skipped further to the end poem, then ended his reaction.

XXI

Wth, i just knew this. Fuking Kubo man, goated

XXI

Let Kubo write some romance manga XD

Dante Johnson

A lot of people get this wrong, but Aizen never planned for this in the slightest. That's why, after this, he made sure to watch Masaki closely to see what would happen with a hollow, the complete opposite of a Quincy inside of a Quincy, and once Ichigo was born, Aizen was so incredibly fascinated by Ichigo. Aizen is a scientist at heart, so when his experiment went completely away from his theory, he became ever more fascinated by it.
