Seems like you got it by the end but just to clarify, in the scene where Eiri first appears and is talking to Lain, Eiri's words are coming from Lain and vice-versa. You can tell this is the case in a number of ways but he clearly also says "I, Eiri..." at one point. Really excited for your thoughts on the finale, it might be worth doing an OP reaction alongside the final episode maybe?
