EDIT:
It just so happened that I and most likely all (adult) creators recived an e-mail. It contains further explanations about the guidelines and tries to remove some of the steam that built up in the community.
Furthermore a link is given to their patreon blog, that is supposed to give more clarity: Blog post
Since we are an open community, I can pass along the e-mail we adult creators got; Patreon won't mind, I assume. Just give me a sign in the comment section or PM me and you will get this mail from me.

Here is a small part of the mail I'd like to share with you:
  • "We did update four (and only four) areas  of our actual content policy: incest, bestiality, sexual depiction of minors, and suggestive sexual violence. If you're just reading the headlines, you’ll be under the impression that we’re “cracking down on adult content.” Again, this is not what’s actually happening. We only updated the above four areas of our policy."

It may not be much, but I still think this is an intervention in our freedom. I continue claiming that drawings and animations are not dangerous!
Every real individum is responsibe for it's own actions!

Original post:
On the 17th October 2017 Patreon updated their community guideline for the adult content creators:

Updated adult guideline

Since I am one of such, I took some time to investigate and observe some on-goings. Don't worry, it will all be fine in the end.

First off, to the new guideline itself:
It's a heavy victim of todays political correctness, as it is filled with contradictoriness and self-protection.

And this is what's going on, in my eyes:
I can imagine that Patreon gets pressured from somewhere and I don't want to do any speculation from where it may come.

Yes, a few adult oriented Patreon sites are currently 'under review'. This time is used for the Patreon team and the creator to make the public page more accessible, meaning explicit adult themes isn't the first thing people should see here (like I said:  contradictory).  Having them censored in a common or natural way is (appearently) still okay.

The important part is that no game's content will be censored in any way! It's only the public presentation!
Furthermore I am sure that no creators will get banned!

I hope I don't go too far yet, but everything I came to know so far, assumes this conjecture. I'll update this post, if something critical happen.

Some of you may know Eromancer -  Malise and the Machine.

To be fair, I didn't play their game, but this project got in the radar of the "Trust and Safety Team."

Yesterday their Patreon page got up again. They explained that they "had to make changes to our public content". Meaning they removed links to NSFW sites, their blog / tumblr and even a link to a demo of their game.

I don't want to review their post, so you just might want to read it for yourself: Eromancer's patreon post

The main reason I decided to give a spontanous statement to this topic:
I want to take other creators impoverishment fear!

Like so many, including me, patreon is our only / our biggest income source, and we don't want to get this removed, since the result could be we living on the streets. I know, this is a bit exaggurated, but deep inside our project means everything to us. And we beg Patreon to not taking it away.

Now I am sure: They won't!
They will do everything to keep your project alive! Not only because they get a share from it, rather because they created a platform for other creators to live from what they like to do.

For it Patreon may be our main income; but it is also theirs!

At final I'd like to provide some tips if you are also a creator of adult content:

  • renounce explicit images on your main page (or censor them accordingly)
  • give a warning that you create NSFW content, even though anybody who comes to your site actually should know that
  • avoid certain keywords and never show images (even in patreon only posts) that contain strong fetishes. Like these, starting with Be, In, Ra, Ne or Lo. How many of them you completed right? :p
  • I assume linking to your own blog / tumblr or whatever should actually still be okay. Insert a warning here where this will lead the viewer, if appropiate

Allright, that's all I have for you.

To all creators: Don't be afraid, and fight for what you love!

To all patrons: Drawn fictional porn is not illegal! Means, that nobody will take away your way of relaxation!

To political correctness: You try to censor us? Well, censor this: FUCK YOU!

Whoever you are, I wish you only the best!

Totally agree, this guidelines are terrible. "and child exploitation (i.e., sexualized depiction of minors)" she is 300 years old vampire i swear. "This is especially important as Patreon welcomes different communities with different sensitivities", Blow me, i live in Russia and here most people are religious to them gay people are terrible and not normal. Same with lolicon outside of Japan. But just because something is not to pleasant to someone doesn't mean it harmful.

randomcrow

Haha, yeah, 300 year old vampire, that's what I'm talking about in the disclaimer screen in 'zum Damenhaus'. If you don't like it -> avoid it. Today works like: If you don't like it -> remove it. Someone on a forum wrote something like this. I agree.

At first I didn't know what you meant with the Be, In, etc.. I thought maybe they were tags that mean something I don't know. xD Then when I understood I knew them all. Ne took me a moment, even though it's kinda rampant on King Arthur's Gold. xP (sickos, lol) As for the topic at hand, so far I haven't heard a peep from Patreon about my own project. Either it's not popular enough or I am doing everything needed to stay under their radar. I know Arsministrator got some flak from them in the past about his characters looking too loli (probably the small breasts). Well anyway I hope I will continue to be ignored by Patreon. Good luck to you and I hope the same for your project as well. :)

randomcrow

I haven't heard anything by Patreon either, and probably never will. I'm not popular enough and I think I got my page pretty 'clean' :p

Menero

For some reason its ok for a minority of people feeling bad about a certain style of content to censor the majority... Seems kinda wrong to me. Everybody should have the right to do whatever said person wants to do as long as nobody else has to suffer from it. Fictional Adult Content doesnt harm anybody, if you dont like it dont look at it. In Germany there was a related case in Court about Lolicon. The judge basically said, its not real therfore no child pornografy, therfore not a crime. As long as there are still some people using there Brains instead of just blind wanna be correctness (if thats even a word...) we shouldnt be in danger :)

Paladox

I got that email too. My game has most of those things in it, aside from the minors thing. My front page doesn't actually mention them (aside from monster rape). Hopefully this is more of a "don't show it on your front page, but you can mention it" deal, but we'll see. xP

randomcrow

I think it will be fine. If not, don't worry. Most of the "under review" creators are already back online. Although I'd like to know how far one can go in terms of 'minor guideline breaks'.

Ah, that's the famous open letter all are talking about. I pick your source up and take it to the tray marked with "very important". Thanks, Apo.

Be In Ra Ne Lo sounds like the chorus of a Pitbull song. :-)

randomcrow

Alright, alright I clear it up! Be = Bestiality In = Incest Ra = Rape Ne = Necrophilia Lo = Lolicon

Icarus Media

Huh, imagine all those combined! It would be like the ultimate weapon to annoy Patreon! A weapon....A weapon to surpass Metal Gear! Sorry, couldn't help myself. :-)

Stijn Van Hove

The internet is for porn. Time that Patreon realises such. :p

Thank you, Crow, for posting this. While Patreon is certainly within the rights to do whatever they want to with their product (and it is their product ), it's alright to call them out on their bullshit. My favorite part is "...you’ll be under the impression that we’re “cracking down on adult content.” Again, this is not what’s actually happening." BULL...SHIT. When you make changes to your adult content policy, that is CRACKING DOWN ON ADULT CONTENT. And 2+2=4. And the sky looks blue. And fire burns. I'm throwing those out there in case anyone else has other falsities they want to pass as truth or fact. You have to enjoy someone pissing on your back and telling you it's just raining (sarcasm).

Today it is "just" the things mentioned above. Later it will be furry. After that it will be gay/lesbian. Then they decide to turn everything adult themed down. Yes, we should point out bad decisions if we see some to prevent this.

Naughty Hijabista 3DX

Hey i got here throu Post links, i am a creator myself of a specific Fetish. I totally agree you, thanks for the Post!

Icarus Media

No-one has bothered me, but then the first thing I did was I put a disclaimer on my overview page so maybe that helped.

Common folk and media always search for one source to blame, since the "enemy" is simpler to isolate that way. Wether people in the medivel times had the same problems?: "Yarr, this tree's knot-hole looks like womans boobs! Thy should not be seeing this! Kill all trees to save stupid people!"
