Anyway, back to the topic "auto save":
I just love it! In every game, especially in hardcore ones. I like the thought of not being able to fix the past in video games.
You did something wrong and a strong character of yours died? Well, live with it!
You chose to move a unit to a wrong place and now it's doomed? Think about your mistake!
But not every punishing game works that way, even that it should. Right of the bat I have two examples:
This War of Mine:
Great game; no question about it. But after you explored a building at night and you come back to your home the game saves before the event that shortly happens after. Meaning you come home and you got raided (for example).
"Damn, those bastards stole me some stuff!"
Guess what`? No problem! Just reload the game and the event gets changed! Now nobody raided your place; how convinient!
And I am a person that exploits this issue, I can't hold myself back if I know it's there.
RimWorld:
Also insanely good and fun game.
If you choose the ironman mode it only saves if you leave the game and every 15 minutes (you can change this number manually; but I recall 15 minutes is the shortest).
Though the game is not really "hardcore" or punishing because of this circumstand:
You got raided and lost like 3 people and the rest were crippled? No problem, the (15) minutes until save are not yet up. So just reload your game and make things better! Yay!
That's why "zum Damenhaus" saves every progress you made: to avoid any exploit. So if you miss the happiness of a certain slave and she is gone now... well... be more careful and aware the next time. Learn something from it.
I want to make sure that you understand my way way of thinking and why I chose this method. For that is why I do those statement posts :)
