Severance 2x8 | Watch Along

Solid eye there Arianna, this episode was indeed shot on a small island in Newfoundland. Such a great episode with the reveal! Kind of a calm before the storm and who knows what is going to go down in these last two episodes of the season...

I don't know how to feel about this episode. In general, I feel like this sort of episode is not really a vital one to have at all, these sorts of characters get by with vague, undefined backgrounds, and that sometimes even works better for villains—that is, if they want to keep Cobel as a villain. And we already knew from Reghabi that she "was raised by them", I don't know if we really needed that much more. And if we did, they could have explored that further in similar small asides. I also feel like the reveal that Cobel designed the Severance procedure was a pretty big ret-con. But still, Patricia Arquette was great as always and I think they could have made this episode work. But there's a time and a place, people... After an entire episode of mostly character background in episode 7, with the plot barely moving forward, you grind the entire plot to a standstill yet again, with three episodes to go, for this? I don't know, man... As a sidenote, what they're huffing is obviously ether, the thing they were making at the factory ("the Ether Mill"). It's mostly used as an industrial solvent these days. Ether as a recreational drug has mostly disappeared in the real world apart from some corners of Eastern Europe. It can cause psychological dependence but not hard, physiological dependence like nicotine or alcohol.

The drug is Ether that they are sniffing.

Sissy is her Aunt!

I love the symbology of Cobel hiding her notes and schematics in the statue of a head. Literally putting the blueprints for the chip in a head.

Doing a rewatch with my two favorite ladies and I want to say what a superstar Maple is for all of her research and deep dives into the surrounding mythologies used in the series. Great work. Luv ya both.

Weakest episode of the series thus far, but still some important information. Would still watch this episode on re-watch.
