The value of experimentation (Patreon)
Content
When you're writing a small, nimble little game, you can fuck around and have fun; there's more of a sense of freedom and play. Because, like, this thing we're doing doesn't hardly matter.
If we make a dumb decision that no one likes, then oh no, is our 1.5¢ share price going to become a 1.4¢ share price? It's the same way that you can comfortably YOLO your life savings into Gamestop stock, when your life savings amount to forty bucks.
But then, horror of horrors; you start succeeding.

At that point, the dread starts creeping in. Now you have something to lose.
Now it is no longer safe to fail.
Sometimes you do experiments and jokes:

And then sometimes that hits you for 25% of your backers, because a lot of people silently leave.

Fellas, it is hard to keep it fresh.
