I love how proud Thee is like he really does not care about what others think, as he should

I had to research same sex partnerships in Thailand during that era after this episode, and what I found was truly eye opening. While not legally criminalized like in many Western countries at the time, same sex relationships in 1915 Siam existed in a discreet but complex space. Male male intimacy, especially among nobles, monks, and theater performers, was often quietly tolerated so long as it didn’t cause public scandal. Female female partnerships were even more visible, particularly in royal courts, where emotionally bonded women sometimes lived together as lifelong companions. Though there were no legal protections or societal validation, these relationships thrived in private, coded, enduring, and far more common than we’re taught to believe. This quiet tolerance was largely due to the influence of Buddhism and a cultural landscape untouched by Western colonial moral laws.
