How did Alchemy work?

Scientists at CERN recently transmuted lead into gold thus achieving one of the long-sought after aims of the Alchemists. But, given that chemical transmutation of metals is impossible, just what was going on in the crucibles of ancient alchemy? Let's explore the history and science behind alchemical transmutation to better understand just how ingenious the alchemists really were. Consider Supporting Esoterica! Hermetically sealed… does it mean something else?

Jesus episode? Ooooh boy. The Yahweh ones were spectacular. I remember where I was when I listened to the first one. And, some day, I hope to see the Joseph Smith Episode… Maybe Mormon episodeS? IDK, the work of Esoterica is vast. I’m frankly happy with what you have provided.

Dr. Sledge, your ability to drop videos relevant to the part of the novel I'm currently working on is truly unheimlich.

Alchemy (Pb -> Au) is why I came to Esoterica. Interesting as always. Ordered 2 Clerical Necromantic Underground t-shirts in late Jun. They have been "in production" since Jun 29th. Delivery was forecast for Jul 10th to 14th. That was missed. Will be trying to contact Spring tomorrow (24 Jul 2025).

Will miss you all today in office hours - can't make it today! Might be able to come in late.

Jesus episode? ...good luck with that minefield!! I trust you to be careful and respectful but still.... No matter what you say, SOMEONE will be offended. Jesus had that effect then, just as much as today, and look what happened to him, oof... So good luck! Your community is behind you!!

What I am hoping to see is a treatment of how people thought about Jesus at the time the earliest accounts were being written--and this would be fascinating because there were some very divergent views, some of which you can still see reflected in the four Gospels and the Letters of Paul. Esp. in terms of the underlying metaphysics various writers were coming from: everything from charismatic prophesy to the Greek Logos, and everything in between. Some of these approaches are not easily made compatible with each other. Looking forward to this!

Daoist alchemy had to do with both transmuting metals AND transmuting various energies in the body, to whit, jing into qi, qi into shen and eventually creating a spirit body that will remain in tact at death. Hence, "immortality." Jung probably had no trouble taking that knowledge and transmuting it (hahahahaha) into "truth" in the alchemy of the west. He played pretty footloose and fancy free with Asian traditional systems of thought.

Hey Justin, please check the sound levels in your recording and your video before uploading. This video's output volume is very low and muffled compare to other videos you've made. Just a heads up. Good episode otherwise! Cheers!

Not a hater but it didn't work. Not like, truly. It sort of suffered the opposite fault of modern science by being too spiritual and wishy-washy about the difference between facts and truths. People like to say it became chemistry. Maybe, but it feels more like chemistry is the spiritual successor but so would physics and astrology because alchemy encompasses a lot. I never studied it. I know a couple guys. There is almost now source material and what exists is in code and the code is often suspected to be hiding a cypher, at least so to speak. They weren't liked and the best ones worked in secret so they also had secret languages and burned their own correspondences so. . . We sort of do have historical facts though and it didn't seem to yield many tangible results. Nothing is new under the sun, though and many great scientists are suspected of or proven to have been alchemists. Science and the occult often run side by side because ultimately, like alchemy attempted in practice. The two are fundamentally the same study of life, the universe, and everything in it. They both even make languages the normies can't read. Tell me alchemy didn't inspire a lot but accomplish little lol.
