And so it begins! Here's the very first guffisode of Audio Guff, the podcast style thing where I talk about random things. Usually with other people.

We begin with a Big Name - YouTube hero Tom Scott, who is something of a Star Trek expert. I asked if it was worth me watching the recent stuff I haven't seen, and here's 40 minutes of us chatting about the answer!

Ooh! Quite a crossover!

Wow, my favourite two YouTubers, and a topic I'm really interested in (I'm basically in the same spot as Stuart, loved TNG, DS9, watched most of VOY, some of ENT), so this is a perfect setup for a podcast. Lovely!

Shadow of Light

That was bloody entertaining. Well done chaps! I always wanted to visit the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas.

So happy to see you getting a Patreon; I wish you all the luck and I'm more than pleased to chuck some change at you on a monthly basis.

I (respectfully) disagreed with almost everything said in this podcast, but that aside, I am quite excited to hear future episodes! Different strokes, I guess, what can you say?

Really enjoyed that. Funnily enough I really enjoyed The Orville because it was like TNG, I never really got into the modern modern Star Trek. I fell out of it all around Voyager too.

I feel like the worst sci fi fan, I have never really seen Star Wars or Star Trek and I listened to all of Dan (nerd³) pod cast segments about it. I literally have no idea about which series is which or where to start and kind of want to now we are all quarantined. BritBox has me covered for Doctor Who so getting that at least :)

Normally I have no understanding of or interest in Star Trek, but Tom Scott seems to have an uncanny ability to hold my attention on literally any subject whether or not I actually get what he's talking about.

Murray Colpman

Yeah, Tom Scott on old Star Trek not holding up based on watching Voyager, that's like saying the old Star Wars films don't hold up based on watching the prequels :D

I don't think I agree that both Wars and Trek could be recast in medieval fantasy. Wars could, but only some of Trek could. Trek used to make a point to actually have science fiction in it. Not just sci-fi set dressing, but actual science fiction ideas and concepts. Unfortunately, to make that work, it has to be episodic. You have to introduce a sci-fi concept, explore it, and then set it aside so you can do a different one next week. Which means that it's a type of TV we're not going to get anymore. As good as DS9 was, it made me sad that it achieved its greatest popularity by phasing out the science fiction, and replacing it with a well executed, but rather generic war serial.
