Elliot from lovely handheld-based channel The Retro Future and I were talking about our mutual confusion about the "Game Boy Macro" - originally a way to get some use out of a broken Nintendo DS Lite, but people are increasingly damaging consoles to deliberately facilitate reduced functionality.

As his channel is deeply entrenched in handheld modifications, it was only a matter of time before he had to attempt it himself. I pop up to spoil things because it's my job!

Giving the Nintendo DS one screen for no reason

Today we build the GameBoy Macro. It was fun, I enjoyed it. But is there any point? Shadow of Light

As Barry Lewis would say, STONKIN'!

When I made my "Game Boy Macro", it was because the hinge on my original DS was so damaged that the top screen was constantly flickering. When I eventually got a DS Lite replacement, I ripped the old one in half in 14-year-old retribution. Much to my surprise, the bottom half still worked just fine, so I did continue using it to play GBA games! Calling that a "Game Boy Macro" is a bit pretentious IMO though.

The hinges on the original DS were made of paper and lies.

Xen Infinity

God, it's weird seeing Golden Sun's title screen again. The sequel to that is still one of my favourite games ever.

I dropped my original DS on the way to the changing rooms at school once and a large chunk came off one of the hinges but miraculously it survived. But the DS itself did eventually break one day so I bought a DS Lite at that point. Then a few months later the original DS started working again. It still works fine today which is just bizarre.
