Hi guys! Thanks so much for taking part in the unconventional vote this month. As usual, if you see anatomical errors I'm going to do my best to fix some things up for the final!

For those who didn't see, instead of the usual voting method, I asked everyone to rate their preferences between the four choices (from 1 to 4, one being their favourite and 4 least favourite). This vote was a landslide win for The Volunteer (because the sum of the 3rd and 4th place votes still weren't enough to bring 2nd place, Beyond the Tent, ahead).

But just to give people a breakdown of how this voting works, here it is:

ROUND ONE: Total votes: 129

  • Beyond the Tent: 27
  • Below Deck: 19
  • The Volunteer: 69
  • Rutting Season: 14

Rutting Season eliminated.

ROUND TWO - distributing 14 votes from Rutting Season

  • + 2 for Beyond the Tent - 29
  • + 4 for Below Deck - 23
  • + 8 for The Volunteer - 77

Below Deck eliminated.

ROUND THREE - distributing 23 votes from Below Deck

  • +7 Beyond the Tent - 36
  • +16 The Volunteer - 93

I do like that in this method, no one's vote is 'thrown away' on a 3rd or 4th place entry. Even if voting doesn't turn out the way you wanted, your preferences are counted. So far it's been positive feedback for this method but if you have any problems with it, please let me know!

I personally think more people should use instant runoff voting for stuff. n.n

They're not rounds as in I post extra polls! People rated their preferences so I don't have to do that. If someone voted for 4th place, then I look at their 2nd preference and put that towards the totals instead and so on. It's a bit complicated and hard to describe but if you look at the way the Australian voting system works, that's more or less what I'm doing :)

Wouldn't it be easier to just count how many points each idea gets at once? (first place gets 4 points from person and so on). Also funnily the result is perfect opposite of how I arranged my votes xD

If I were to do that it wouldn't leave room for any second or third place option to overtake positions. Say the vote distribution was a lot more even across the board; as one is eliminated and those votes are redistributed, a second or third place contender could overtake positions. It's only because this one was such a landslide that the runoff voting had no effect on the final result (hope that makes sense?)
