When I drafted up this plot, he was by far the character who I had the least idea what to do with, so I'm glad it seems to be working out. I wanted to introduce a gritty vampire hunter OR a down-on-his luck lowlife sap, but felt shackled to the clown character I had introduced right at the end of Book 1, and didn't want to inflate the cast with too many new characters. Ended up combining all three into one character.
