Sexy Leather Mary Jane Watson + Process (Patreon)

Sorry for not posting for a minute there; I went out of town and was with my family and not drawing anything. I had a lovely time! I very rarely get to see my family, and so getting to spend even just a few days with them means the world to me ☺️

So I drew this sexy leather MJ and it blew the fuck up on Twitter, which, you know, we LOVE. This is kind of a combo between Romita’s original MJ drawing and Tim Sale’s Spider-Man Blue drawing (with colors by Steve Buccellato). I had originally started drawing the image below of a Goth MJ, but it just didn’t seem like that interesting of a drawing to me. There was like no dynamism.

And so, despite actually really liking her face, I started over and gave her a kind of different vibe ; she is bigger and kind of beefier — a real Bad Bitch who could eat Peter alive for breakfast. Below are the original inks and flats. Notice how I didn’t really draw the background details within the structure of the piece, rather just left it all as simple colors (much like was done in Spider-Man Blue).
