For a moment, things were calm once more. Jake stood within the vessel, his eyes still burning as he’d forced himself to witness the scene of Oras’ arrival, despite it searing his brain to do so. Looking around the vessel, he saw that Dina, Sylphie, and the Forest King were all unconscious, with the Sword Saint still aware as two trails of blood dripped from his eyes and onto his robe. He wasn’t doing that well and had clearly strained himself significantly.

Of the five of them, Jake was definitely in the best state, likely because he had encountered Oras a few times before, but definitely also partly due to his Bloodline allowing him to fully withstand the aura of the Void God, even if it still creeped him out.

The Void God in question had already begun to retract his aura, the swimming sea of eyes receding like the tide as his presence nevertheless remained, Oras showing no signs of fully leaving just yet.

Jake felt Villy approach and would be there shortly alongside many other pinnacle gods, Jake reckoned. Hopefully, when they did, everyone could get some answers.

Because right now, little made sense to Jake. He had no idea why this ambush had happened in the first place, what they truly wanted of him, and if the words the woman had said were even true. Her final sentence about it never having been the plan to kill him especially messed with Jake.

It made a lot of his prior assumptions wrong. Of course, it was entirely possible she had only said it to mess with him, but why would she do that in the first place? Could a god of that level truly be so damn petty?

As Jake was thinking, Artemis arrived at the vessel. When Jake saw her, he had to hide his shock at her state. While her body was whole, several sections of it were oddly discolored, and a multitude of wounds could be seen everywhere as she clearly hadn’t been on the winning side of the battle.

She threw Jake a brief look filled with relief before turning her attention to the Void God. Cupping her hands and bowing, she spoke with a deep sense of respect, only surpassed by when she spoke to Yggdrasil.

“This one greets Oras the All-Seeing and thanks him for saving my life,” Artemis said, seemingly not daring to raise her gaze and look directly at the Void God.

“I greet thee, companion of He Who Hunts,” the Void God said, not looking inclined to say anything more. Jake wasn’t sure if it was a diss to simply refer to Artemis as Jake’s companion, but the Godqueen didn’t seem offended as she merely bowed again before turning towards Jake.

“I don’t know what you did... but good job,” Artemis said, forcing a smile.

“You did say you’d never met a Void God before, so I reckoned I’d let you have the experience,” Jake said, trying to lighten the mood despite the seriousness of the situation.

Artemis kept smiling as she looked inside the vessel through the still-open hatch. “Is everyone okay?”

“As well as can be,” Jake sighed.

“I believe we will all need an extended period of rest to address any long-term mental effects,” the Sword Saint answered, already looking a lot better now than before.

“Alright,” Artemis nodded, but just as she looked like she was about to say more, the first of many gods made their arrival.

A dark green sheen overtook one entire side of the void as Jake briefly saw the image of an astonishingly gigantic snake slithering through the nothingness before the aura retracted, revealing the humanoid body of the Malefic Viper.

An instant later, he stood in front of Jake and gave him a good look as the god spoke.

“What the fuck happened?”

His voice was full of lingering bloodlust that made even Jake feel cautious, but he kept his cool and answered.

“We were ambushed,” Jake shook his head. “I don’t know how, I’m not exactly sure why either, but they evidently wanted me to do something for them, not caring about anyone else besides me.”

Jake gave a few more details about what had gone down, including the actions he’d taken to try to get them out of it. He hoped to get everything out before they were joined by more gods, so he spoke extra quickly.

The Viper nodded, having calmed down a fair deal as he looked toward the Void God.

“Thanks for the help, I owe you one for sure,” the Malefic Viper said, giving the eldritch being a small nod.

“Denied. Favor merely returned, scales tipped towards balance,” the Void God Said, remaining quite mysterious.

Villy didn’t seem to completely get the Void God either, as he nevertheless nodded. “Thank you either way.”

“Keeper of Lost Knowledge, gratefulness acknowledged, yet unnecessary. Between He Who Hunts and I,” Oras said, actually clarifying matters a bit as Jake frowned. He was about to look at Oras but stopped himself as he spoke while looking down.

“You make it sound as if you owed me a favor?” Jake asked. “I helped deliver things to Arnold, sure, but I’m pretty sure you already paid me back for that.”

“Yes,” Oras simply said, not seeming like he had any intentions of elaborating.

The Viper looked up skeptically before shaking his head and surveying the area. He waved his hand and instantly frowned. “What the...”

Energy gathered, pulsing outwards from the Viper as he tried to do something. Reality seemed to vibrate and shiver for a moment, and Jake saw the void shift all around them, except in one specific area:

Right where the gods had imploded themselves.

Frowning deeply, the Viper did a quick teleport and appeared right in front of the spherical area. His frown only deepened before he looked at Jake.

“You said the god took out some kind of circular metal object that looked like a coin?”

“Yeah,” Jake confirmed.

“Any more details?”

Jake considered quickly as he tried to summon a projection of what he’d seen. The Viper studied it closely for a few moments before shaking his head. “Not very useful.”

“Any idea what that thing was?” Jake questioned.

“No, not really,” Villy sighed. “All I can tell you is that it wasn’t anything simple.”

Turning towards Artemis, the Viper looked her over quickly before summoning a bottle in his hand and tossing it towards her. “Drink that and tell me what you say. Also, did you only battle avatars or had any of them actually come with their real bodies?”

Artemis inspected the bottle for a second before drinking it. Right as she did, her body began to visibly heal, and the lingering energies in her wounds were fought off in an instant.

“I thank the Malefic One for his continued generosity,” Artemis bowed, likely wanting to also bring up the gift the Viper had provided that allowed her to reach her current level, but she understood this wasn’t the time for that. “And no, I believe only two of the gods involved were avatars, both of which were the ones surpassing the realm of Godqueen.”

“Now this is all just getting more and more perplexing,” the Malefic Viper muttered. However, before he could say more, they were interrupted by more arrivals.

The void roared in the distance as a mass of pure destruction made its way through. Flames, lightning, and wind mixed, tearing apart everything in their path before rapidly subsiding once the god got close. It all merged and formed a blue bird of pure energy, which flew into the scene like the living disaster she was.

“I’m here! I’m here!” Stormild yelled, flying around in a circle a few times before spotting Oras and the Viper. “Oh! Hey Oras, hey Vilas! Wait, I’m I late?”

“I only got here faster because I was actively surging the moment I felt Jake’s location,” the Viper shook his head.

“I see, I see, sounds like Oras did us all a solid!” Stormild said, having seemingly spoken with the Void God too, likely through telepathy.

“It’s an odd situation for sure,” a new voice joined the others as a man had appeared in the void without any of them seemingly noticing. Well, Jake had naturally noticed him, but the man spoke literally the second he appeared.

“Aeon! You’re here too?” Stormild said with excitement.

The human nodded as he observed the spot where the gods had disappeared. “Oblivion, huh?”

“Yeah,” the Viper confirmed. “Do you two have any idea who’s capable of this?”

Both remained silent as they stared at the empty spot. Jake just looked on at the scene of three Primordials and a Void God having gathered, and he saw that Artemis wasn’t looking super comfortable. She was already nervous when it was only Oras, and adding three Primordials hadn’t helped matters.

Not that the situation got any better when there was movement in the void once more. As could only be expected, the Pantheon of Life also knew what was going on, and seeing as Yggdrasil wasn’t known to be the most mobile, had sent Nature’s Attendant to inspect the situation.

He came in looking calm, but it was clear he was nervous. Fortunately, his nervousness was quickly dispelled when he saw that Dina was only unconscious, which was why he had been unable to contact her even after the formation had been broken by Oras.

Jake, who was still standing right at the open hatch of the vessel, looked on as the many gods seemed to exchange extremely quick telepathic messages, likely discussing the situation at hand.

After a while, they switched back to using normal speech again as the Viper briefly explained to Jake what they had discussed.

“They used an item of unknown origin related to the concept of oblivion,” Villy said. “Oblivion is a nasty concept that’s primarily made to erase all other concepts and energies. Usually, this erasure is incomplete, but those gods managed to effectively delete themselves entirely, leaving not even a single speck of karmic dust behind.”

“Seeing as they wore special masks that not even Oras could see through, finding out who they were is improbably to say the least,” Nature’s Attendant muttered. “What kind of organization has several Godkings willing to end their own lives to try to kidnap a C-grade? In what world could it be considered worth it?”

They were all silent for a while as Jake quickly exchanged a look with the Viper. The god understood and nodded, making Jake raise a hand. “I... saw how they looked.”

Instantly, everyone turned to him with a mix of suspicion and anticipation.

“How?” Aeon asked, looking at Jake skeptically.

“That’s not important now, is it?” The Viper stopped the line of questioning. “Jake, if you would.”

Nodding, Jake focused on how the gods had looked and summoned projections of all the gods. In some ways, Jake had been incredibly lucky that the masks the gods wore had been special in that they didn’t truly have much physicality to them. They were more conceptual masks that only showed up to regular Perception, meaning to his Bloodline, they might as well not have existed.

One by one, Jake made the projections, the gods studying them closely. Jake started with the woman who had talked to him – one of the gods surpassing Godqueen – but none of the Primordials had any idea who she was, something that was truly perplexing.

Neither did they recognize the other god who had surpassed Godking, meaning the two who had come there with avatars wouldn’t be easily tracked down. However, as Jake summoned the next projection, someone spoke up.”

“I know him,” Aeon said, motioning towards one of the faces, studying it closely. “It’s unmistakable. That’s the Oakspear Monarch from Valhal.”

“Valhal?” the Viper exclaimed with surprise as he motioned for Jake to continue. He summoned another projection, making Stormild speak up.

“Hey, isn’t she from the Seventh Hell?”

“She is,” Nature’s Attendant nodded, now also looking very confused.

Continuing, Jake was now on to the two Godkings who had lost their lives. One of the Godkings was an unaffiliated god that didn’t belong to any factions but had his own. Meanwhile, the other was also recognized immediately.

“The Holy Church,” Villy said with confidence.

The others nodded and had all turned oddly quiet with those two final images. They all seemed to consider matters before Nature’s Attendant looked at Jake. “You’re absolutely confident, right?”

“That’s what they looked like,” Jake nodded.

“How could he even have faked that?” Stormild chimed in admonishingly. “Would have been super weird if he knew the faces of gods that had been dead for a few dozen eras.”

Now it was Jake’s time to look confused as the Viper corrected her.

“Evidently not that dead,” he said. “Also, as far as I know, they went missing.”

“Usually, a god is dead if they’re missing for that long,” Aeon said, narrowing his eyes.

Things got quiet once more before the Viper looked back up at Oras. “Got any input? Also, I need to ask, how come you didn’t stop them from erasing themselves? I know you could have.”

“Unnecessary, uninterested,” Oras made it clear he didn’t really care about all that was going on. Evidently, his only goal had been to save Jake and the others without caring about what would come after or finding out who was behind the attack in the first place.

The Viper didn’t look pleased but didn’t say anything as he sighed. “So, to summarize, you were ambushed by six gods, four of whom are now dead. They did this not only by misdirecting the teleportation array established by the Pantheon of Life, but also had a formation capable of blocking the detection of even Primordials. Then, when things went south, they all blew themselves up using the concept of oblivion executed at an incredibly high level. This includes four gods who willingly experienced true deaths by getting involved in this, all four of whom were known gods of different factions that were believed to be dead. Finally, the two gods that did escape both surpass the level of Godkings, meaning we should be aware of their existence, yet none of us has any idea who they are. That about sums it up?”

“Yeah, pretty accurate, though I think we should consider that their true target was Sylphie,” Stormild said. “And I can’t even blame them for finding her irresistible.”

All the others ignored her as Nature’s Attendant thought aloud. “Only a major faction has the power to pull something like this off, yet it doesn’t fit the profile of any of them.”

“It also begs the question, which faction would be foolish enough to try?” Villy said, crossing his arms.

“We should find out,” Aeon said as he waved his hand and summoned a bubble around himself, along with a set of chairs and even a table, which he promptly sat down at. With a wave of his hand, he teleported over the Sword Saint, who took a moment to orient himself before nodding toward his god.

“I took the liberty of reaching out to some of the others,” Aeon said while motioning for the Sword Saint to take a seat. “I did so under the assumption they’re also curious why gods of their faction they believed dead, would suddenly show up in the void to ambush the Chosen of the Malefic Viper, an action that’s more likely than not an active breach of the Bloodline Accords.”

Hearing this, Jake got the feeling this sudden ambush was turning into something far bigger than he could fully understand... and he really felt bad for the people around him in the vessel who were still unconscious, as they were in for quite the shock when they woke up. Not to speak of Artemis, who looked almost enviously at the knocked-out C-grades.

I was literally just re-reading the Yip vs Villy chapters and started wondering what the next big conflict was gonna be. A seemingly pinnacle/high tier faction that no one knows exists? Heck. To. The. Yes.

Forget all of the primordials! They touched Minaga's snack buddy! Whoever they are going to suffer from him and them. Do anyone remembers anything Jack done for Oras?

Strato Junon

Oh boy. This is wonderfully interesting. Thanks for chapter!!

Ronan B

They'll need to be one hell of a faction to handle the hellfire coming their way - 4 pissed off primordials, maybe 5 considering Valdemar likely won't look too kindly upon a traitor / will relish the chance for a good fight.

Violet

Happy Monday! Tftc!!

Sachieiel

Definitely feels like the emergence of a conpsiracy that's been hiding in the wings trying to accomplish some secret agenda. I imagine this isn't the first time they've acted, just the first time evidence has been left of their actions. Very exciting, though while it will impact the mortals it's not really something they can influence.

I'm calling it, it's another system and multiverse a war of multiverses is gonna happen

Can't Jake shield her from their aura like the G he is?

Fdrugc

Tftc also why isn't Jake protecting Artemis from the auras?

Daniel Everest

Woohoo the mystery is now truly afoot, a Cabal of supposedly dead high tier gods all part of a shadowy faction targeting specific individuals and hiding from Primordials. This is going to be a real slow burn

Was geht sie dass an

This is a great start for the next ark! let villy go on rampage cause I'd love to see him kill gods again

I think when Jake infused his origins energy into the “vision of oras” bead it might have affected oras in a positive way. He may be interpreting that as the favor/favors owed

joel southard

Thank you for the chapter

Unwillingmainer

Hmm, that is worrying. Dead or missing gods coming out of hiding to kidnap Jake while willing to take to keep info secret. If they weren't gods, I'd say they found a nice fanatical religion. They actually might have. Worshipping something long dead and who better to bring something ancient back to life then Jake?

If Jake gets to Villy's order how meny episodes do you think it will take for Artemis to meet with Jake's parents? I'm guessing between 10 and 15 episodes after they arrive at the order

I don’t think it’s the auras that Artemis is having trouble with but the simple fact of even in the grand scheme of things she is a peasant in front of the other gods involved. The only thing making her “important” im this scenario is her affiliation with a group of c grades with her being a god queen makes it weird but that’s just how it is

Indevan Jones

Yay, tyftc! So its a conspiracy!

Manpolar

I think it's more likely that she just doesn't want to be there or involved rather than her suffering from the auras

wyattmon

I was thinking things were going to ramp up when Jasper got yoinked but this far surpassed expectations

Ritsu

This is a Rogue Nation scenario isn't it? A full on hidden faction made of previously believed dead or missing gods, gathering together for the 'noble cause' of destroying, reforming or conquering the current world order. And if one of their leaders deals in oblivion which can eliminate karmic bonds, they can hide even from the likes of Eversmile if they're high level enough. Also explains why they'd risk spitting on the Bloodline Accords, since no one knows they even exists and they are virtually untraceable. But that also means that if they are willing to move this brazenly, then either they're extremely deperate or they are confident enough in their plan that they think they have a chance regardless of all these high level factions being high alert. Damn this is getting exciting, isn't it?

NicN

Tftc

Schneeente

Uhhh, we just got our first glimpse of space-Akatsuki! Noice My guess is, that the godqueen is not recognized because she leveled up since her disappearance

Oh I'm more or less convinced that Yip was only able to rise as far as he did and as fast as he did because of this exact organization helping him.

Secret society of Gods, all obsessed with Jake and his abilities as harbinger of primeval origins. Primal hunter illuminate confirmed?

sounds like someone with resurection abilities. Might have to be transendant or bloodline. maybe thats why they are looking for jake. It would make sense for a primary antagonist, someone with a similarly powerfull bloodline as his.

EkkiEkkiEkkiEkkiPtang

Hidden unknown Primordial is my guess. Actually had that theory for a while, cause I reckon it's someone that the First Sage knew about, and he positioned Villy to eventually be someone who can counter them. Hence all the talk about 'balance' between the Primordials and how you can't say who is strongest because they each have a counter.

Jennifer Leigh

Poor Artemis. Hanging out with Jake keeps getting her in over her head.

Damascus

I wonder if Jake infusing the marble with origin energy somehow helped Oras, and that's why he thanked him. I also wonder if Oras knew that would happen one day and that's why he granted him such a powerful artifical in the first place. Frankly as I write this, I'm beginning to wonder if Oras is the mastermind behind this plot. It would be right up a void gods alley to make a barely sensicle, convoluted plot that spans years.

Gaindrel

Okay I am calling it now. The Leader of these supposed dead gods is an unknown Primordial. Meaning they reached Godhood in the first era but then used the concept of Oblivion to cover their tracks and making sure no one knows about it.

Skarpi

They'll need to visit the order. So a sight seeing trip for his parents? It'll probably be like take your parents to work day.

brjenness

Cute of stormild to pretend to be frantic and yell, "I'm here, I'm here" even though she would have known shortly before arrival that everything was under control. Shows she cares and is good at remaining in character.

Marc Todd

Called it. LFG!

EbbieOsa

Why is this rogue group of strong gods shaping up to be like "Akatsuki" from Naruto. Seems like 1 of the Primordials is behind this ragtag group or at least someone who remembers an ancient god and would love to see him brought back through Jake's unique ability. What they don't know is that, should this be a revival or a birth like Vesperia, they would have the unfortunate side effect of being somewhat loyal to Jake before anyone else. This story just got more interesting. The possibilities man

Devillelouch

Its the primordial church. A first era being who ascended in the second era, is definitely strong enough. They are fanatical enough to break the bloodline accords. Jake is a heretic maker and chaos agent, which the primordial church hates(my guess).

Mick Gormley

So some hidden powerhouse out there has a transcendent or bloodline ability that can resurrect anybody at or below the godking/queen level and has managed to keep this secret long enough to form a powerful cabal. This sounds very fun

Mohammed Sheekh

Isn't oblivion and desolation the same thing? Zogarth explain!

Matthew

Ooh a radical secret society.

Canis

Lawdy, three primordials plus Nature's Attendant as backup is nothing to sneeze at. Especially considering Aeon is one of the scarier things to fight.

Jana

Isn’t the God Caleb got his legacy from also missing (presumed dead)? Because that’s kinda terrifying right now.

Paul B

Na. TPC went balls deep with making sure that they were in Jake's good graces. If anything, TPC and the ES might/will probably go ham along side the primordials. Could be wrong tho and Z throws out a curve ball

Eden

Sylvie is absolutly adorbs, no eay they woulda killed her

Paul B

Villy remembers all information due to his bloodline. Even if such a god existed and had gone MIB 📸, Villy's bloodline would still be able to recall the said entity.

Rick Delallata

Honestly, their plan absolutely would have worked if Jake wasn't as broken as he is, and if he hadn't had the void lollipop

A. B. Edwards

I almost feel bad for those Gods that tried to kidnap Jake. If they are found, I don't care how powerful they are. Everyone from more than half the Primordials to the Endless Empire to who knows what else will be after their heads. If I were them I might just be crapping myself. Or maybe they have powerful Gods still there.

A. B. Edwards

Oh, theory. Maybe they are led by Tenlucis, the God whose legacy Caleb has. That guy supposedly was Umbra level but died at the end of the Second Era or something. And maybe Sanguine. How interesting would that be

Namorat

Now that's an interesting development!

Dragon

So there was an extra primordial who wielded the power of oblivion so proficiently that they erased themselves from everyone’s memory? Maybe not even Intentionally and they need Jake to reveal their existence not for the harbinger of primeval origins but for his bloodlines perception & his patron being the keeper of forbidden knowledge? Or something else who knows?

eatingpitza314

its someone with the same bloodline as him (or similar). his son time travelled back in time to get revenge on jake for calling him jakey.

Dave

Tftc

Jul Silver

I didn't see that coming. I wonder what belief they all had in common even if from different factions before they disappeared. Great chapter!

Miotara

Whoever is responsible for the ambush seems to be someone who has stayed hidden for a very long time and has been picking up or hiding gods who have been missing for several eras. Would that someone take the risk of exposing themselves for a C grade even for the harbinger of primeval origins? There's something missing here. I'm wondering what are the chances that this god or faction somehow picked up that Jake is more than human? I can see important gods take the risk for that, someone more than human hasn't happened once in 93 eras. That or it could be a god with a bloodline that can tell exactly how potent Jake's bloodline is and they want it. After all, it's that bloodline that made Jake what he is, who wouldn't want it

BumAssBumAss

My money on this secret faction is Eversmile if it's not an unknown 3rd party. Karma has been shown by William to make enemies think he is a friend before during ell'hakan's invasion. Would explain why long lost gods would die for such a thing.

Eric

"Oblivion" and "desolation" are related but distinct concepts. Oblivion refers to a state of being forgotten or a place of nothingness, while desolation implies a state of ruin, emptiness, and sadness, often associated with physical decay and loss. Essentially, oblivion focuses on the act of forgetting or being forgotten, whereas desolation emphasizes a state of bleakness and abandonment. This is just and overall thing i found and copied essentially they are different concepts.

Little Silly

Hmm…could that be why the FS was glad it was the 93rd era? He was glad his multiverse had survived so long without interference?

Tyler S.

Love the conjectures given and where this seems to take us. Now for one of my own, I highly suspect the Church Goddess that was involved with the capture of El'Hactua and the Flase Oblivion God. Seems she may have gathered a group of hidden cards to capture the Primevil Origins. This brings to mind the world Core in Palate that needs fixing and may provide more clues pointing to the Matron.. however this is all conjecture

Thenais

artemis should be proud to have survived, instead of being fearful : she and jake got the job done.

Nexas Aurelias

Multiversal illuminati? Interesting!

ThatGuy

Oh shit they actually killer themselves??? I thought for sure they only deleted the trace of them being there. Gods willingly killings themselves for a c grade. Gods at god queen/king level too. That’s actually an insane amount of radicalism they must have. I think we were right in assuming it’s the faction against primordials

logen larson

Could it be eversmile?

Temlat

Woah, a mind bending conspiracy - heck yeah. And my poor girl godqueen simply being relegated to “Jakes GF”. Or worse, partner to the one who hunts, completely dismissing her own path as a huntress 😂😂

Zizawah

And only the true body ones are known missing/dead gods

Rewdan

Thanks for the chapter Zogarth great way to start the week

ButterflEye

Who’s looking forward to meet the rest of the primordials

Pekka Kohonen

They did not know he could perceive them. They could have lost some bloodlines and need Jake to bring them back, like with the insects

Rewdan

I agree with Stormild they were definitely after you!

Sean McClain

That makes sense, and would explain their want for Jake and his ability to return beings to their primeval origin. Its possible the resurrection isn't perfect as it puts limits on their new life, like can never rise higher then the caster and not truly have free will and thus not be truly alive but they think Jake's ability would allow them to fix that issue. If any of that is true, they would have been far smarter to just negotiate with the viper directly as he definitely has people he would want to resurrect and Jake would try to help his pal Villy.

Dragon

Sanguine & tenlucius could definitely be members. But they aren’t big bad level(too narrow of a path, blood/shadow). Just a mini boss in my mind

Iza Wozniak

This whole ordeal gives a strong vibe of First Sage. Powerful beyond recognition, his existence forbidden knowledge. Now a group of fanatics looking for Origins. It has to be somehow related.

Little Silly

Bunch of folks guessing this could be the “twelve constellations/gods/months are secretly thirteen” trope. Some suspecting Eversmile, Tenlucis, Sanguine, or the Lodestar Matron; personally I would add Daofather and maybe Holy Mother or Blightfather to the possible suspects…would feel weird for the little Lodestar Matron to have such a big force personally. A few assuming FS planned/knew this would happen. A person suggested multiverse/system fight between this one and another one, which could be interesting. Great job Zogarth having so many possibilities with one mystery! 👍

Phil Ritter

I never imagined Aeon and Stormild are invested enough into SS and Silvie to actually show. Maybe they’ll get the chosen title after their current chosen make it to godhood or die. I’m at least very sure both have one already. The only thing I predicted right was that it’s not a public facing faction. Valhal and the demon I kinda get since they are mercenaries in many cases but the holy church is weird. Not to mention that those factions should be aware how terrible of an idea it is to break the bloodline accords. There likely also have to be spies inside the Pantheon otherwise how would they have been so well prepared. Had Duskleaf or Minaga gone back with them instead of just Artemis those assailants would have been curbstomped. There is also the possibility of those gods being controlled somehow but you’d likely need someone like Eversmile to pull that off and he doesn’t seem like the guy to actively intervene and least of all break the accords

Ty Cooper

Plot thickens. Good chapter and I love informative Mondays. Granted it's a mystery and what we were informed of were the clues, but very nice to receive. Does it almost feel like the master mind behind this being a sentient realm? One that can trap gods and keep them captive till they get Stockholm syndrome. Tftc

Phil Ritter

Now imagine how scary a force has to be in order to not fear them or at least be confident to get away with it

tom husband

Biggest question I would ask in this situation: What were the levels of the gods when they disappeared? They have been missing for many eras so would be a big clue if they haven’t progressed at all in the meantime - I.e. were they captured and put in stasis? Brainwashed by a new bbeg?

Pekka Kohonen

I would say it is some kind of anti-primordial faction. They are basically jealous that the Ps have hogged all the good spots and resources. They want to use Jake either bring back some dead or lost primordial of their own (maybe even the primordial of “oblivion”)

WhiteLeeopard

Villy was calmer than I expected him to be Poor Artemis XD

khielira

Given what was last said it looks like the accords weren't technically broken. Since what we know about it and what these Gods wanted skirt around the letter of the accords rules like a legal gray area

Blake N.

She hasn’t spent enough time with Jake yet to overcome the effect of presences so I think even if she felt that way emotionally she would physically be unable to not be uncomfortable

Devillelouch

Or fanaticism. Do we know of another first era God besides the Eternal Servant? It would be Darth Jar Jar except with oblivion.

Blake N.

That’s a fair bet that I think is probably 50/50 either eversmile or someone we haven’t heard of. Unrelated: I misred your first sentence as “my mommy on this secret faction” and thought it was cute that you and your mom were sharing the hobby of this objectively nerdy ass book lmao

Akastor

Is it just me or is the title from Oras for Jake "He Who Hunts" just badass. I mean The Primal Hunter would be a cool name when he gets to be a GOD, but He Who Hunts has just a better ring to it for me.

khielira

I just had a thought could this secret agency have a hand in what happened to Villy back in the day

Fyrtue

And Jakes primordial collector set is only missing 3 now. He has only yet to directly cross paths with star siezing titan, rigoria, and daofather.

Arieh Sochaczevski

Thanks for the chapter! “Wait, I’m I late?” Should either be “Wait, am I late?” Or “Wait, I’m late?” Also: “begs the question” does not mean what you think it means, Vizzini. It means that something is a self-referential logical fallacy, not that it raises a question. EDIT: No comments on the Process Bride reference? Really? I’m sad.

Phil Ritter

But if a primordial is behind it who could it be? Eversmile can’t break the accords so it couldn’t be him if it’s for the bloodline. Only Rigoria comes to mind and I doubts she’s risking it especially since fielding troops that came from Jake would warrant the entire multiverse going against her due to the accords. Second option is way more likely and maybe they want to revive some ancient catastrophe we don’t know of yet.

Raymond Lenihan

The very first defition from Oxford of "beg the question" is (of a fact or action) raise a question or point that has not been dealt with; invite an obvious question.

Death56

Maybe oras and other void gods exist at multiple points in time at once and he is repaying a favor Jake does him later after all we don't know much other than they are strong as fuck

The Ravenger

Best thing about Monday is new chapter

Raymond Lenihan

I would have absolutely loved for that to be where we got to see how strong Duskleaf really is, I forget his badass sounding title we found out one time a while ago that he doesn't like to hear, but it would have been awesome if he went with and destroyed those gods.

Manowar

Could still be the automata controlling meat puppets...

Cajun Terror

Just for lolz can we get an evil menga be apart of the Illuminati.

ThatGuy

Villy said people more than human has happened in the sense of being variant human races that difference (that we don’t have confirmed yet) is he think Jake would be able to have kids where other variant human races couldn’t.

Orod

Damn this was a great way to show off what the new main bad guys are like. 3 Primordials were completely blindsided by them. An unknown organization comprised of members of all sects (my specaltion) Can't help but be excited for the new threat

Borbino the great

That’s what I was thinking either him or the guy last chapter who said it was the Illuminati was right

Phil Ritter

What do you mean poor Artemis. Just imagine how much being involved in such things benefits her. Artemis either dies due to being involved with Jake or rises to power she couldn’t have imagined before

Christopher Nisonger

Ngl… I thought Zogarth was gonna kill off someone in Jake’s company. Glad to see he didn’t.

Sachieiel

Yeah, it's both cool but also it gives him a very singular identity as the person who most merits the title of hunter which says a lot about how Oras views him. Likewise it's interesting that the last time Jake met Oras, he referred to Jake as an equal, so clearly Oras has a lot of perspective on Jake either because he can read into his bloodline/presence or because he has some insight into his future.

Phallusar

Maybe the benefit Oras got was from Jake Juice on the Vision of Oras? Though that one turned out more like when Jake used it on his Legacy skill from Villy.

Phil Ritter

My guess is that the only reason they are not their chosen already is due to them still having chosen alive and well

Real

Its prob not tenlucis as he was killed by his own path. Sanguine was hunted down by the blight empire and the holy church along with the court of shadows. So its neither of them, i assume. My first though was that it might be some secret society which requires you to be formally dead to join. Maybe even another multiverse created by the system somehow got in a few eras ago and recruited a few powerful gods, making them "go missing".

Sarianne

Thank you for the chapter, this is a good start of the week, looking forward to the following chapters this week. Love that Artemis was looking jealous of the unconscious mortals 😅

Mikesch

I have two questions: Why is it so clear those four Godkings were cool with being killed off? Maybe they thought the sphere was to protect them. Also, how did the other gods know something was wrong? Do they also stalk their blessed, or did Villy or Oras Tell them? Or were the help calls just delayed and went through after Oras freed the area?

Phil Ritter

What are the chances there is a void god behind it? We know that even primordials know very little about the void and Oras is just one of the few Void Gods who interact most with the Universes. For all we know there could be tons of gods rivalling Oras and the Primordials in the Void we don’t know about and Oras won’t tell.

Eric

Which could explain why Oras calls him « He Who Hunts » (pure aura from jake btw)

Naoko

I forgot about the Accords. Oh boy. This isn't gonna be pretty.

Timothy Spradlin

I am putting fake money on the Dao Sect... in wuxia novels there are sects of true evil and do all kinds of things, plus they have not been really fleshed out yet.

Ben Woodward

trying to understand the power levels involved I asked my self if I was in charge would I sent my best talent to kidnap Jake which I probably would since the opportunity to grab him just got harder. made me think the villains aren't super OP

Arista Gerber

So, who else has 'Cult who wants to resurrect an Ancient Evil to destroy the multiverse' on their bingo card? Thanks for the chapter!

Jockameanie

I feel like maybe the reason Oras owed Jake has to do with Jake having forbidden knowledge now from the Sage. Seeing as how Oras really like knowledge

RnR_ RnR

I feel another training montage coming. Jake is gonna have to get a lot stronger with a quickness. If a godqueen can get beat up by some disposable pawns they must truly have some heavy hitters in the lineup. Im thinking that yip of yor gift is gonna be a lit better than we thought.

Lazy Dragon

For the second question I believe it's likely their gods stalk them a little as they all contain at least a divine blessing and are interesting people, not to mention their connection to Jake (who has a tendency to do weird/impossible shit). And I didn't doubt Villy messaged them all the second Jake vanished to see if the rest could contact their blessed.

Laurent Jerry

This is about bringing back a legendary figure that the 'cabal' worships. That is Jake's only publicly known unique ability. The gods killed themselves without a fuss, so fanatics at least to a degree, a cult of sort. The most likely explanation is: they aim to revive something for who they worship, maybe a cure of some sort, if not their idole itself. As for who they worship, it could be a dead god, or a figure from the past, like the Sage is to Villy.

HailingMist

Thanks for the chapter zogarth. Also Stormilds first words in the sentence "Wait, I'm I late" should be (Wait, am I late) unless stormild talks like that unsure been awhile since I last read their words

Joshua Konieczka

Okay, I’m not super confident because it’s still early but this feels like a group that is operating on the outside of the system’s rules. They don’t care about violating the accords or pissing off 4 primordials, and were able to delete all evidence of themselves. Finally, the two “stronger than godqueen” gods aren’t even recognized. My guess is that this is a group that deals with Forbidden Knowledge and is after Jake for more than just his Primeval Origins.

Blank

Plus the daofather has already shown interest in Jake, it was during the nevermore leaderboard party right

Shai182

TFTC!

Laurent Jerry

This makes a LOT of sence. The item is called 'Vision of Oras' and it turned into an Eye. So maybe jake juice restored it to what it used to be with a bonus on top ? Or he just gave Oras enough juice to study it, Oras is a knowledge god of sort, so any intell on something unique is priceless.

Jayce Sul

I think someone is cloning or lab producing gods. They’re using remnants(?) of dead gods to vat grow them. They need Jake because the process is incomplete and they think they can perfect this god manufacturing process using jake juice.

Jayce Sul

This explains why they were so willing to die. They’re not really alive and being controlled or something. I wonder what the Blightfather would say if he saw them.

Chris Connolly

Me too, but honestly I thought it was gonna be Artemis. Things have been going so well with her and I just kept thinking of when villy told duskleaf to wait and see when Jake is pushed or wronged to find out how similar his and Villy’s retaliation would be. Seems like her dying could be a driving force for him to get even more focused on power and growth until he can find the culprit and wipe them out. Right now he wants power so he can do whatever he wants. Imagine if he now had that motivation plus the need to make sure no one he cares about can ever be hurt of taken from him again. Might see the fastest evolution to godhood of all time

Semzi

Tenlucis was "killed" by his own path in the way of needing to continue growing(handle the pressure of the dark heavens), therefore he was going to places "which could even kill gods". Presumed dead if I remember correctly.

Hayden Leech

So Jake just gave Oras some Jake juice… and Oras considered it a favor. This won’t have any repercussions at all.

Goose18

Great chapter, definitely gonna have to let some chapters marinate

Chris Connolly

Is there any chance the person truly behind this is the first sage? It’s not inconceivable that the reason even primordial are baffled is because someone even more powerful is pulling strings. Also, the main gods didn’t seem evil or malicious, just acting on behalf of someone they had complete trust in. Who better to command such a level of trust than the first sage. Who else could hide gods deaths or manipulate a faction so secretive the keeper of forbidden knowledge and the all seeing Oras are in the dark.

Lynderyn

You are assuming Oras was not able to glean information on how Jake’s perception sphere works. Imagine how big of a boon for the All Seeing to gain a new method of sight.

CT

<< puts the tinfoil hat >> It is a cult of first sage even though they never met the guy and need Jake to bring him back. << hat off >> Even Jake will tell them "hey it was for jake juice stuff", I am looking forward to Viper s overblown reaction to whole bloodline accords situation.

Daniel Brian

Makes sense to me. Might even related to what Villy said about a pact he made a long time ago. Wouldn't it be crazy if the intent was to reassurect the First Sage?

Devillelouch

The villain is a parasitic fungus body snatcher, like was mentioned in Nevermore. (My guess is the Eternal Servant being the corpse.)

Carl Never

I don't see the sage doing anything bad but I could see him set this up to plan the future push Jake and the primordials to gain more. It seems to me he raised all 12 primordials

Jeryd Greer

Tftc! The next arc begins!

Almer Reyhan

Artemis couldn't catch a break LOL I can't wait for the Primordial reunions!!

Chris

Makes sense, and they didn’t make their move until Villy’s return.

InfernoDroid

So, we have a mysterious faction or individual with the ability to either resurrect/reanimate dead gods, pull gods from the past, or has been hiding/trapped in a pocket realm for aeons. Also, maybe just an empyron (i think that's the term for those above godqueen/king status) who's path is centered around oblivion who's been active this whole time but using oblivion to wipe all traces. (A more fun option could also be a hidden oblivion primordial that did an oblivion thing on themselves a long time ago and Jake's ability might be the first thing in a long time that can fix it's records)

Booksaregood

It’s the 13th primordial that eversmile used his karmic obliteration on

brjenness

hot take they were all eversmile and he's just researching how to fool jake's perception

Jayce Sul

As an afterthought, how many concepts of 'nothingness' are there loll. The concept of Void, the concept of Desolation, the concept of Oblivion... lmao

Evan Zablocki

Love how we have a godqueen wishing she was in C-Grade just so that way she doesn't have to deal with the pressure from the primordials

Anthony Smith

Hmmm my first thought is that this may be a group of outcast heretics. Explains the different past alliances. We haven't gone over heretics much or their place in the multiverse

InfernoDroid

Another funny thing could be that Zog doesn't know what's up with these guys yet but it's just setting up the idea of a group, that over the next couple of hundred chapters he can figure out what they are about so when he does get to their arc it feels like he's had a grand plan the entire time. (As a DM, we totally never do this type of thing in our games.... nope, never)

SetherAedekae

Jake met the multiversal illuminati it seems

marland lewis

ngl haven't heard of him in a while, wish he wasn't such a dick though kind of a cool character

NovaZero

He Who Hunts while Artemis is there is going to be an interesting pillow topic

Timothy Spradlin

I agree or the arguement is they prioritize concealment and unawareness greater than Jakes involvement

TKOva

Well they're different but similar. Void is a space of things, desolation is a feeling of nothingness. Oblivion is just straight up destruction.

Thekoopa20

I like that thought, Origin energy could be what conceptualises the start of everything and Oblivion would be the same but for the end of everything. Meaning a hidden god who’s path is centered on Oblivion would be even more interested in learning about Jake’s Origin energy since he’s the first one to posess it ever ( as far as we know )

DirePants

I’m wondering if it’s been hinted at throughout the series? There are some interesting tidbits we’ve gotten here and there. Or someone entirely new? Either way this whole thing is very exciting. I wonder how much will get before Zog goes on break.

Hornbach

I think we should not put much Attention on the 4 gods who actually killed themselves. By the time they used the coin they felt the Viper aproaching so they had to know death was unavoidable.

Hornbach

So any guesses what favor Oras was playing Back? Maybe he got some Insight because Jake infused the voidmarble with his orgins Energy? Otherwise i can't think of anything

Olly

I hope jake gets his lollypop back :C

RedFaux

How does Oblivion compare to Desolation? Their descriptions are nigh identical

fanfan8000

My guess is that desolation is reversable. While oblivion is permanent. Difference between full destruction and partial maybe?

fanfan8000

Doafather or First Sage is my guess. The First Sage somehow knew the people around Jake but not Jake himself. While one of the Daofathers subordinates/faction member from Nevermores mortal colosseum pointed towards something .

Colin

So who is coming next? Goodrun and Valdemar, the Holy Mother, someone from the Hells? The panel tomorrow is gonna be amazingly interesting

Zenthos

I think the void exists outside time so maybe he was paying a favor back from future jake.

ABTelford

I’m betting some hidden god/faction has learned to wield the concept of Oblivion so those 6 gods aren’t dead just teleported somehow. Also - WOW! What a chapter!!! 🤩. So many mysteries! So much coolness!

brjenness

Jake is the leader of the illuminati. two clones escaped when eversmile erased the primal hunter. one merged with Jake and the other went somewhere else in time and space. the clones never expired because they never died and were never switched with the main body.

ABTelford

Uh…are you trolling? If not give book event references…but I’m pretty sure you’re trolling nonsense for kicks and giggles. 😉

Athena

tftc :D "tell me what you say." -> "tell me what you saw." "Wait, I’m I late?" -> "Wait, am I late?" "who they were is improbably to say" -> "who they were is improbable to say"

Paul B

Ok but quick question here...Oras the All-Seeing has never seen these beings? Or does he not believe in snitching

Brian

For those thinking the token just teleported the gods, Zog himself clarified that they died in his discord. He also gave some insight that void gods are on par with primordials, and that there are less void gods than primordials.

Ben Cox

Tyftc, also very funny that Jake is now trying to do an Ash Ketchum. He's gotta catch'em all. Because so far he's got most of the primordials in his pokedex. He's met villy, yggdrasil, valdemar, wyrmgod, holy mother, the blightfather, Aeon, eversmile and stormild. He's only missing three now

Brian

He didn’t care to take the time to identify them. He couldn’t immediately see past their masks like Jake could with his bloodline, and didn’t care about them, just protecting Jake. So he didn’t care if they used the token on themselves, so long as Jake was protected and safe

John Durrett

They could have simply teleported away, ran behind heavy backers etc. But Villy and others would have followed the karmic trails back to them. This seems to be a highly secretive organization with advanced tech that's cross factional. Their goal or cause is worth giving up on even their Godhood achievement and all future prospects. Who knows. Maybe there is something in that World Wonder of Mushrooms coming up that was able to convince them to give aid. Promise of 72 Virgins kinda thing?

John Durrett

Along with Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf" music playing in the background. ;) Awoooo!

TyranT-Rex

I wonder if eversmile and the blightfather show up too just to get their insights.

John Durrett

Or the Spanish Inquisition. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! See - Kronos dude already broke out the comfy chairs!!!

John Durrett

Well at least Villy did her a solid as first on the scene and gave her a health potion.

Zach138

Wasn't the last time the bloodline accords were violated, multiple primordials gathered and deleted the entire pantheon and all planets connected to them?

Tom C

I feel like they teleported away a picosecond before the oblivion erased that portion of the void. Otherwise why would the goddess say to Jake about her path and seeing him again? TFTC

John Pfeffer

Isn’t being heretical a mortal thing? Like a blessed loses their blessing but doesn’t want to break their path, so they become a heretic in order to keep obtaining the records they used to receive willingly from their god. I would assume this goes away after they reach godhood themselves. No blessed or heretics anymore.

John Durrett

tyftc. I spent my comment token responding to other comments. ;)

Tom C

Nah bro this is all gonna be fucking banging for her path. Fighting a team of gods and holding her own however briefly? Then debriefing with primordials and the void god? All those sweet sweet records!!

Mikesch

I was wondering why only Godkings and Avatars from mightier gods have been sent. When Jasper teleported Jake, he complained about him being heavy bc almost too strong. Maybe they used a kind of transportation from whereever they came from with a might limiter

GrimeyPu

Chairs and even a table? Are we getting a nice exposition dump from Aeon and Stormild perspectives of how the accords came to be 🤔 perhaps unveil some of that Villy lore

TwoMoreYears

Super interesting chapter. Gonna be an interesting week for sure.

Corvid

"Usually a god is dead when they're missing for that long" my guy Aeon is flinging the shade like a pro. Also seeing this many primordials playing Scooby Doo. They would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for you gods and that pesky void god too!

Adam Komarnicki

The 13th Primordial? Thanks for the chapter 👏👏👏

Rewdan

After much thought and careful consideration I’m saying it’s an unknown new faction being introduced. The head of this group has to be exceedingly strong to have been able to create a method to hide themselves from the scrutiny of even primordials.

Lemonsqueezy

TYFTC. My thoughts are that there is another god who is using something to bring the gods back but cannot make it permanent, or that they can only exist in the void. So they need Jake to bring them back permanently. Maybe one of the two gods that didn't destroy themselves.

MrBooniecap

Dun, dun , dun, a new faction. Unknown and mysterious. What will happen now? Who knows?

AreYouWorthy

I think Jake met Umbra during his time in the shadow world when fighting that B-Grade Chimera in the Hunting Grounds

Alex

A faction powerful enough to pull this off couldn’t exist without the Primordials being aware of it — at least, that’s the conventional wisdom.

Alex

Yep. They went the ‘dramatically overreact to ensure others won’t do it again’ route too.

Thenais

where is the sweet sweet XP ?

Nathan Holliday

Anyone else think this might be related to the Dao sect and Aron’s goal? I’m getting the reclusive nut case vibe. The kind of nut case that wants to bring back something wiped from the multiverse a long time ago for very good reason.

frotes

TFTC! Things are gonna get exciting Minor punctuation, seems like there should be a comma after shortly Jake felt Villy approach and would be there shortly alongside many other pinnacle gods, Jake reckoned

Collector of Stories

Ooo are we going to get a full primordial meet up?

Ryan Ulrich

I refuse to believe Oras wasn’t able to see past the masks the other gods were wearing. I’m chalking it up to indifference.

Thenais

i think they where all goonies of eversmile, impersonating dead gods to cover their tracks

Austin Barton

I imagine that the path of this new faction is like forget me not from X-men. Imagine a person reaching primordial level power then wiping his existence off the face of the multiverse, And villy doesn’t know because he was secluded during his ascent through the ranks.

SqrlyGrly

My crazy conspiracy theory: the person behind all of this was erased from memory by eversmile. The people helping bbeg are either people radicalized against the current power system OR were slaves. I can see both happening and having it be gods that have been missing for several eras fits both. Whether they have grown at all since they might help narrow it down bc slaves don't advance in their path. Unless they got stuck at bottlenecks so small caveat. I also would be willing to bet that the gods on their true bodies didn't know it was a self destruction button and might have thought it was a flee talisman or a protective shield. The ones with avatars are likely the controllers and didn't care about the others living but why tell them there were even more risks than they already knew about?

Win Rar

I love the small detail that Oras gives important people titles. Artemis may be a godqueen but in this universe she is normal to Oras. Villy and Jake though are unique entities and have special paths; so they have titles given.

Jordan Rogers

I’ve got my doubts, because eversmile can’t make Villy forget.

brjenness

I can see a future with a lot of elementals running around in bird form leaving cores in nests hoping another sylphie is born. and groups of birds find themselves being guarded by elementals.

gray matter

What if they’re all doppelgängers?

SqrlyGrly

But why? They can just have Aron ask Jake to visit and have a conversation about it. No need for any kidnapping attempts. They might have to also ask Villy to remind Jake, but I'm sure he'd be ok with it.

Alexandre8901

Old sage isn’t dead secretly building up to this secret powerfull faction composed of assumed dead genius and god.

Steven Myer

Hot Damn Z this new addition to the plot is straight fire 🔥🔥🔥 I think I speak for everyone as I thank you for posting this on a Monday instead of your patent Friday Cliff Hangers. Kicking off my week in spectacular fashion!

Robert Phipps Jr (Perren d'Wolff)

That is true, but if the Viper never knew of them or their avatar was not one the the 6 then the Vipers knowledge would be less than useful. I mean we in seclusion for 80 something era's.

Grine

Villy has true memory. Which mean even Eversmile power shouldn't work. But it's possible it is a god that existed when Villy was absent.

Brian H

This sounds like a job for the seeker

Thenais

people die when they are killed

Kevin Watson

it seems even more likely to me that Oras was paying off a debt from the future.

Steven Myer

Jake can see through eversmiles nonsense as seen in the meeting between him and eversmile during the world wonder. So unlikely, I would say a polymorph potion type deal I think that would change their shape would work tho.

Kevin Watson

thank you for saying that most of the gods came in their true bodies again

SqrlyGrly

I wonder if the rebellion on earth just suffered a setback with some of their blessed leaders losing their gods. Might be a good time for Miranda to strike. And William might see something in karma with a big change like that happening near him. He did notice when EH left the planet afterall

Alex

That would be a catastrophic blunder, since it would 100% confirm that the fuckery on Earth and the kidnapping attempt were related. I don’t think the gods involved are that incompetent.

Abhishek

Oras call Villy ‘Keeper of LOST knowledge’, where as he thinks it’s forbidden knowledge. Thoughts?

Chegs

“Finally, the two gods that did escape both surpass the level of Godkings, meaning we should be aware of their existence, yet none of us has any idea who they are.” Hmmm..

JW Saxby

👏👏👏🫡 Just when I was starting to brainstorm who or what could be the next main badguy/target/prey for the MC to hunt and aim to take down next, they finally make an appearance. Awesome first reveal and excited to see it’s something so complexing that even multiple primordials are currently stumped. This is lining up to be another great arc OR even the first sightings of whomever the overall Big Bad is. 🍻👏👏👏

Alex

Feels like Jake would intuit that their appearances were false if that was the case.

Niklas Österljung

Im all for the already stated theory that this is a new player, someone who has been lurking in the shadows. Could be an unknown realm, functioning like the shadow realm, or a number of other hiding places. Makes more sense than a faction worshiping the first sage for example. Villy stated that he died. No reason not to believe that. I think he lives on in records, nothing more. Consider how little villy knows of him and even eversmile not knowing about him. Seems far fetched that a whole faction worships a dude that died in the first era, when the gods from that time doesnt know of him. Its possible that the system made him forbidden knowledge after witnessing how much influence his records could have on jakes path. With the karma in the boots and all that transpired after.

Jason

Thinking maybe there's a mini-universe somewhere (not one of the numbered ones, but more like the Hells) where some gods have fled/disappeared to, and they've been hiding out ever since. And now maybe they're ready to make a reappearance (but need Jake Juice for.. something)

psy

What we are missing is a Minaga on case

11037

It's clearly the Meta faction. They've realized that Jake is the main character and are desperate to get him on their side so they get more screentime.

oak

He has called him the keeper of forbidden knowledge before.

Biggy smalls

I like your first part. Hidden universe part. I don’t see why these gods would throw their lives away for this. I think it’s more likely a primordial tier god who’s a puppeteer. Either he’s a necromancer, brain wiper, resurrectionists, etc. operating out of this hidden universe.

Manuel

pretty sure Oras got some insight into jake juice due to him infusing it into Oras item. Also his next skill choice might get interesting after this encounter.

Corey S

Jake can’t see that and I doubt Oras would have cared to even check. But it would be nice if they could somehow see if they were stagnant or had continued growing

Andrew K

A number of the conspiracy ideas here are basically going as big as possible, so I'll offer a relatively modest option: What if Villy's desolation in the 7th universe is *very slowly* growing, and this group is composed of the relatively small number of gods who care enough to try to do something about it?

Andrew K

Supporting arguments in next child post to limit scrolling for people who don’t care to look.

Corey S

Villy would know though. So the real question is how did they escape Villy knowing of them at that power level.

Tristan Lewis

I'm thinking he's behind it. It would be super juicy for the story to throw some stuff in to separate the brothers.

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Jacob Holmes

I hope it doesn't go this way, but I have a strong feeling this mystery group has ties to what happened to Villy's family. I really hope it's not reveled that nature's attendants daughter/ the vipers wife faked it for some reason and is the one behind this

Biggy smalls

Nah, I think we’re getting a roundtable with most, if not all the primordials in attendance. To figure out what the heck just happened. Cause this faction just tried to break the bloodline accords as well as has a bunch of former influential gods of their factions. To ignore this potential unknown threat would be dumb of them.

Fdrugc

Why do the primordials assume that they consented to being killed by oblivion? M

Niklas Österljung

Because of how energies and consent works. An item killing a bunch of powerful gods like that without consent would be bonkers. I guess they know what to expect.

KevB

I knew something was going to happen related to his Harbinger abilities at some point, but it sounds like those idiots REALLY messed up

Tristan Lewis

Tenlucis? He's missing, super stealth type as well? Maybe he's helping gods dissappear?

brjenness

I question the wisdom of not outright saying it's part of his bloodline . even though I suspect it has to be the shoes.

jobe matula

damn THIS IS THE BEST FKN CHAPTER !

dan dyfe

A certain war-god will pick up his ax because someone messed with his friend.

Nano

He’s not missing he’s confirmed dead not to mention Caleb hasn’t really shown to be overtly stealthy and the viper knows about him he mentioned his path is a strong one

djthomp

True identities of this new antagonist faction aside, I'm more immediately curious how many profession levels Jake is going to get from thwarting the abduction attempt and then attending this upcoming meeting of primordial and pinnacle gods. There ought to be lots of heretic and chosen work and records in all that action.

Catrina

In book 9 at the end of chapter 56, the old elf that Jake let study his arcane mana constructs was taken, along with his research about Jake's mana. Maybe this secret organization was behind that.

Bettafish

Personal bet here, this is more subfactions trying to break the hegemony of Primordial factions from within those factions, like the lodestar matriarch's stunt with EH's soul. Would kind of fit with Jake's main allies being from Solo primordials or the order of the Malefic viper, which doesn't have that eras old institutional rot due to Villy purging it + the restoration of the orders recency

patrick__starz

I belive Villy erased that elf and everything he was studying before he could tell anyone about it

Hayden Leech

So in the timeline of gods, there’s no way they will attack again in c/b grade right? These beings see hundreds of thousands of years the same way we look at a long weekend. If they attack again even somewhat soon it will be odd. Or they are absolutely fucking desperate for the abilities of this guy they heard about basically ten minutes ago.

Anonymous

Wait, can Oras see forbidden knowledge due to his high perception?

Ira Smith

Love it, can't wait til tomorrow...

Andrew K

I would guess his perception lets him observe things that are later forbidden, but being a void god means the system can't make him forget (because he is fundamentally outside the system).

Justus Saucedo

OH! OH! WHAT IF THIS IS A HINT THAT VILLY'S WIFE IS ALIVE AND PART OF THIS FACTION.

Seen Death

While "has ties" is vague enough to be possible, i want to say the viper was exttemely thurough on his obliteration of that whole group lol My guess is on a potentially new faction that started or grouped up because of jakes Harbinger abilities

MrCynical

Pretty sure the bloodline accords are a result of Villy annihilating a tenth of an entire universe because his wife and son were killed due to their bloodlines. And a couple dozen eras of being missing presumed dead is not 86 eras with the viper knowing they are dead.

Chris

It’s secretly a rogue Minaga leading the group

Prospects

I honestly think these presumed dead gods are the ones blessing the hostile B-grades in the 93rd universe. I think it was a contingency plan in the event that they didn’t get Jake during this attack, for all they know it could have been one of the Viper’s avatars or Duskleaf tagging along with them on the way back and in that case those gods would have gotten eviscerated. Without the interference of gods in the 93rd they could definitely try and kidnap him by sealing teleports out of a planet and throwing like 200 B-grades at him.

Prospects

My leading theory is it being some faction with the leader specializing in concealment, both the concealment on the gods themselves and the Oblivion that they used were both very difficult to accomplish. Not to mention concealing an entire faction and the impact their records should normally have by bleeding into the multiverse. I also think the troublesome B-grades that are being blessed in the 93rd are from this faction, if they don’t even care about gods that aren’t empyrean in the slightest then what would a few blessings from these gods that they will just use oblivion on to remove any traces. I think the B-grades are a contingency plan in the event that someone like duskleaf or the viper were with Jake during his trip through the void, because they would have gotten eviscerated. Trying to trap Jake on a planet and then subsequently flooding it with a few hundred B-grades would also be another way to attempt to subdue him.

I think the First Sage is the physical embodiment of the system in human form that went and taught many beings to help bring about the first Gods which we know as Primordials. Him asking Villy to kill him allows for him to move on to another person which is imo how the boots have a karmic connection to all the primordials because they are linked to the First Sage.

Cory S.

Well if it’s Gods coming after Jake I don’t think Jake is going to be involved much because he can’t do anything about them. If it’s only Gods we are going to get a lot of God POV’s. I doubt we hear anything more new from this group until after Jake advances to B-Grade and we have another EH type situation.

Neal Cooper

I almost wonder if this is first sage related. He is one of the biggest mysteries, has no faction, has no existence, is also a potential origin creature himself...

dan dyfe

i wonder what world jake and crew will explore when they head to earth. mercury or venus? Mercury is a planet of extremes, with scorching heat on one side and freezing cold on the other. Venus, on the other hand, is a planet of intense and consistent heat, thanks to its runaway greenhouse effect. I wonder what types of things jake will get to hunt down.

Chris Connolly

The more I think about it the more I think it’s ever smile behind it at the end. Probly incredibly indirectly but his transcendence is like the mega oblivion…just seems to fit

Sushi

Artemis is going to have to get used to meeting super powerful gods real fast if she wants to stay with Jake

Nick Remis

Yeah I’m on that page too. Almost posted a short novel in the comments about the first sage, balance, and two direction I could see this going. I think it’s connect to being a system cheat, what he foresaw, and why he had Villy kill him (so there was a future for Villy and others)

Kristoffer

They should have taken the safe option of just inviting the gang for a visit while offering tasty stuff for the bestest bird and hungriest worm

Landon Tucker

Ooohohoh we got some nice intrigue cooking. Chef zog got something heatin up here.

It's even funnier when you consider that she's a fairly powerful goddess in her own right, just not by comparison. It's like the ceo of a moderately successful business suddenly getting dragged into a backroom fortune 100 retreat by her nepobaby boyfriend

Corvid

this whole dang arc has been fire and it's just starting

Ivo Wißen

Absolut crasy idea what if it's villy's wife?!?! She didn't die, thats the reason villy can't resurect her. She has an absolut bonkers plan.

Kangaroo

“I only got here faster because I was actively surging the moment I felt Jake’s location,” the Viper shook his head. Is Surging supposed to be searching? Ps great chapter, plot twist I did not see coming.

ABTelford

Yea I didn’t understand that sentence either. Hope an edit will fix. 🙂

Anthony Smith

This situation feels like eversmile.

I reckon Oras doesn't experience time linearly, so he owed a favor to future God tier Jake ("He Who Hunts") and was supposed to pay it back to current C grade Jake to close the loop. Probably the reason he gave Jake the void lollypop in the first place.

ABTelford

When Oras said “uninterested. Unnecessary”. I think he meant that he already know who is behind this and where they are thus he didn’t need to stop their escape because he could track them down already. Come on, Villy, negotiate with the big eyeball! 😉

Yip

no because 3 of them are True Death, and he really meant he didn't care to stop them only save jake
