Jake truly had no way of telling what would come first. On the one hand, he saw daily improvements to his poison crafting, while on the other, he felt as if he was on the precipice of finally having that all-defining realization that would allow him to upgrade his Meditate skill.

One was a slow and steady process of incremental improvements, while the other was a sudden enlightenment, making it truly unpredictable. Undoubtedly, the Meditate skill would be the most impactful of the two, but Jake didn’t feel that he could force it in any way, and that even if he spent more time actively trying to get the upgrade, it wouldn’t help.

No, it was better for him to just continue working on his Dragonsbane Poison while fishing for the Meditate upgrade in between. Jake felt that his connection to the Meditate skill was stronger whenever he was low on resources, as the increased regeneration naturally had a larger effect.

Like this, weeks turned to months, as he soon crossed into the one-year mark since he began this semi-isolated training. He didn’t meet anyone or even speak to other people, as Jake had chosen to fully dedicate himself to the craft, allowing no distractions, no matter how bad a friend or partner that made him.

Not that he believed Artemis had anything against his actions, as the only thing he’d heard about her was through a small message Villy had included with an ingredient delivery, wherein she encouraged him and nothing more. This didn’t surprise him, as a few years truly were nothing to a god.

Soon, one year became two as he continued his isolation. Jake’s bane poison crafting was making rapid progress as he’d already made several variants, slowly working his way towards the Dragonsbane Poison. Scalekinsbane Poison had been the first he’d made, followed by Jake wanting to make a more specific one. He’d considered making a Humansbane Poison using his own blood, but decided against it as he instead made a bane poison targeting the creature he was perhaps second-most aligned with Records-wise:

Snakes.

It ended up being surprisingly easy, as it only took Jake a couple of months to go from Scalekinsbane Poison to making his very first batch of Snakesbane. With that, he was one step closer as he focused on the Records more and more with every craft, narrowing down the Records further.

Jake considered making a Wyvernsbane Poison or maybe even a bane targeting some variant of winged snake, but he ended up instead making a type of bane poison in a whole other direction.

What he made next was an Elementalsbane Poison instead. One thing that set true dragons apart from most other beasts and scaled creatures was the sheer amount of magical prowess they possessed.

True Dragons were the top race of monster casters in the multiverse outside of rare and unique variants. Every True Dragon was a master mage capable of extreme levels of mana manipulation, and their natural ability to learn new spells was simply off the charts.

That’s why Jake wanted to create a bane poison focused all around Records that had to do with mana, as he’d found himself facing troubles when trying to use Record-infused parts of dragons directly.

To be fair to Jake, this was something he’d predicted would happen. He was fully aware of his own limitations, which was why he’d made certain preparations before he even tried to begin crafting the Dragonsbane Poison.

Jake knew that if he had a hard time manipulating and focusing the Records in the poison, a lot of them would go to waste. There were several ways to alleviate this issue, but each approach came with its own set of problems.

One method was, of course, for Jake to just get good, which would definitely be the most time-consuming. As a C-grade, manipulating the Records of B-grade True Dragons was borderline impossible, and while he could certainly get better and more efficient with time, he knew just how much time it would take. While Jake was okay with spending a few years working on the poison, he would prefer not to take a few dozen years.

A second method was to use more ingredients containing these Records. For Jake to add some dragon’s blood, extract what Records he could, and then evaporate the rest before adding more. This method made the crafting process take a lot longer and require a lot more focus, which Jake was okay with, but he couldn’t keep up with the resource demand. Once started, Jake couldn’t pause the concoction, and as things were, he simply didn’t have enough energy to use this prolonged method, but would run out of mana and even mental energy before he was done.

This led Jake to use a third method that he was uniquely capable of pulling off, thanks to the Malefic Viper’s backing. Usually, in a bane poison, one would use some of the cheaper parts of monsters, as one truthfully didn’t need that many Records, but that was when one crafted with grade-suitable ingredients.

Jake needed more Records from his ingredients… ones with more quantity and quality, which was why he did something that would make most other alchemists spit up blood due to just how wasteful it was:

He used the most expensive and Record-dense parts possible. Dragon’s Hearts, the eyes of certain True Dragons, infused bones from Wildflight dragons and other sorts of ingredients that no one would ever be dumb enough to use in a one-time poison. It would be like using pure gold to craft a doorknob just because Jake found the softer metal easier to work with.

The ingredients Jake used for his experimentation were ones that would regularly be used to craft both legendary and even mythical equipment for B-grades, but Jake didn’t have any intention of caring about that at all, as he wasn’t paying for anything.

Okay, Jake did have some conscience and only began using these truly expensive parts when he felt as if he had a chance to actually succeed, while using the cheaper stuff during regular practice sessions.

As mentioned, Jake felt this was a long process of incremental improvements. He first started using parts of True Dragons to craft Scalesbane Poison – a very slightly less focused version of Scalekinsbane Poison – to get more used to working with the ingredients.

After feeling comfortable, he stepped it up and made the Records increasingly focused by the day. Again, a long process that ended up taking several months, and it wasn’t long before Jake had been in self-isolation for just a tad over three years, during which he’d burned through what he reckoned was Earth’s entire planetary budget.

It was especially in the last two months that Jake had spent the majority of these funds as he’d begun trying to craft the Dragonsbane Poison in earnest, which meant using the truly expensive stuff.

Even though Jake was confident and improved by the day, it still ended up taking longer than he’d first expected, but in the end, he knew he would get there.

On this particular day, Jake went in with full resources, while well-rested, and with a mana potion ready to go the second he started getting low in resources. He threw in the ingredients one by one, doing what he’d already practiced hundreds of times before, creating a near-perfect mixture for the Records of the True Dragon parts to bind themselves to.

Calming his nerves, Jake added the shrunken Dragon’s Heart when it was time to do so. Inside the mixture, the heart began getting dissolved as Jake focused on extracting the Records and fusing them with the liquid.

His mana was rapidly being drained as he was forced to make up for his C-grade energy’s lacking potency with sheer quantity, but he kept a calm mind as he slowly went through the extraction process.

The entire process was extremely inefficient, with Jake only capable of holding onto perhaps one-thousandth of the Records, but he already knew this was the case as he could only keep going.

Minutes passed with the heart growing even smaller over time, with the concoction teetering on the edge of turning unstable at all times, with Jake barely hanging on by the edge. He’d already used everything in his arsenal, including his Invocation of the Malefic Viper, and after consuming the mana potion and starting to run low again, Jake feared he was still lacking.

However, as his mana went below a thousand points remaining, things clicked into the base, and by the grace of the system, full stability was reached. A faint pulse of energy was emitted from the cauldron as Jake faintly felt like he heard the roar of a dragon from within.

He would have classified it as a delusion born from exhaustion if he didn’t also feel the aura given off by the poison resting in the cauldron. It was incredibly weak, yet Jake clearly felt the aura of a dragon within, making him smile from ear to ear as a notification also informed him of his success.

You have successfully crafted [Weak Dragonsbane Poison (Epic)] – A new kind of creation has been made. Bonus experience earned

Jake kept smiling, not at all caring about the “weak” portion of the Dragonsbane Poison. While still in C-grade, Jake wouldn’t even bother trying to make a bane poison that wasn’t classified as weak, especially not after Villy told him that those not tagged as weak tended to be of ancient rarity of above, something Jake was at least a few hundred years short of being able to make.

Carefully bottling the poison, Jake ended up with two poisons, which he already knew weren’t enough, but with one success under his belt, he was far more confident making more.

Using Identify on the Dragonsbane Poison, Jake could only nod along as he read the description, finding himself more than satisfied.

[Weak Dragonsbane Poison (Epic)] – Dragons, the apex of mana and magic, legendary creatures who stand at the pinnacle of power, yet even they have a bane. Deals significant damage and spreads throughout the target, inflicting body and soul simultaneously. The poison will be triggered and inflict incredible damage whenever the affected target uses mana. This poison is significantly more effective on entities with Records identifying them as dragons, while completely ineffective against those that do not. Bane poisons directly bind themselves to the Records of affected creatures, making it incredibly difficult to heal.

Unlike the far more generalized bane poisons Jake had crafted in the past, this one wasn’t only more targeted at dragons specifically, thus resulting in it being more potent, but the increased targeting had also allowed Jake to focus the effect to be something specifically effective against dragons.

In alchemy terms, the effect this poison inflicted was commonly referred to as Mana Allergy. It would turn the dragon’s own energies into something that would harm it, and Jake knew that, seeing as it would be a dragon, it wouldn’t really have any choice if they wanted to use mana or not.

Well, alright, if his target chose not to use mana, Jake had a feeling he would be in for a far easier fight than first imagined. Far more realistically, the dragon in question would just take the damage while working to rid itself of the poison. That, or try to kill Jake before the poison had time to do too much damage.

But, enough theorizing about the battle to come. For now, Jake just felt satisfaction with his success as he was one step closer to starting his dragon hunt in earnest. Naturally, this period of alchemy had also resulted in quite a bit of experience, despite Jake not actually making much.

’DING!’ Profession: [Heretic-Chosen Alchemist of the Malefic Viper] has reached level 341 - Stat points allocated, +35 Free Points

’DING!’ Profession: [Heretic-Chosen Alchemist of the Malefic Viper] has reached level 342 - Stat points allocated, +35 Free Points

’DING!’ Race: [Human (C)] has reached level 337 - Stat points allocated, +45 Free Points

Jake was all fine and dandy with two more levels in just a bit over three years. Definitely worth the massive resource cost that he had a god sponsor. What’s more, he still had some very expensive ingredients left that he had already made plans for how he wanted to use.

While he had succeeded, Jake wanted to refine the poison a little more. While he wouldn’t be able to increase the rarity, he could still increase the quality and potency of the Weak Dragonsbane Poison to ensure he entered his first fight with a True Dragon carrying arrows coated with the best damn poison he could make.

After putting away the poison bottles, Jake went to rest and meditate.

Oh… I guess the Dragonsbane Poison did come first, huh? Jake was reminded as he sat down and entered meditation. He still needed that one moment of inspiration that he, for some reason, now felt was even closer than before.

Once Meditate was upgraded and Palate fixed, it was time to leave his isolation, and by that time, Villy would have found a True Dragon deserving of having a hunter sicced on them – assuming he hadn’t already located one.

--

“Yrel, you need to-“

“Yrelstromoz,” the True Dragon sneered, correcting the woman sitting opposite her.

“Yrelstromoz, then,” the older woman said with a voice full of resignation. “Just come home with me, alright? Stop this nonsense already and see sense.”

“I already told you to leave me alone,” Yrelstromoz said, her energy rising.

The other woman released a bit of her own aura, instantly squashing Yrel’s own. “You cannot continue like this. The elders are already angry about your actions, but if you return now, you may get away with limited punishment.”

“You’re just convincing me more to stay the fuck away,” Yrelstromoz crossed her arms, reigning in her aura as she knew she wasn’t capable of threatening the other party. Despite Yrel’s immense power as a True Dragon, the woman in front of her was kin and higher level, thus understandably stronger.

“Also, punish me? For what?”

“Do you have any idea how many you’ve killed over the last couple of decades?” the other True Dragon asked with narrowed eyes.

“No one?” Yrel asked, genuinely confused until she realized what the other dragon was getting at. “No one that counts, anyway.”

“That demeanor is exactly why you need to return with me.”

“You seriously think I deserve to be punished because of… what? What exactly is my crime here? See, this is why I can’t stand people like you, acting as if you’re better just because you take pity on inferior creatures,” Yrelstromoz scoffed.

The other True Dragon looked conflicted before sighing. “This is your last chance. If they hear of one more instance of you acting out, I fear the elders won’t tolerate it. You risk being expelled from the Lumenflight, and if that happens, we… I… can no longer protect you. Even if I promised your parents to do so.”

“Protect me?” Yrel said, recoiling in disgust at the arrogance of the other dragon. “Do I need protection? No. I’m not stupid and will just stay away from places I shouldn’t go. Or are you going to insist that I return with you to be punished and potentially suffer the same fate as my parents?”

“What happened to them had nothing to do with-“

“Spare me the excuses and just leave me alone already, for fuck's sake,” Yrel slammed the table hard enough for it to crack while also breaking the floor tiles below. “I’m done with you, done with the Lumenflight, and done doing what I’m told. I’m not a fucking whelp anymore but a True Dragon, and if you can’t treat me like one, then I don’t need the Lumenflight.”

“If that’s truly how you feel… then I’m done here,” the other woman sighed as she stood up while leaving a token floating in the air between them. “But I would be remiss if I didn’t try one more time. I plead with you. If you trust me, please use this token and reach out at any point. You can still walk a worthy Path and have a future worth having. I sincerely hope you reach out, but no matter what choices you make, they will be your choices, so I guess all I can say is… good luck to you.”

“I don’t need luck,” she scoffed, waving off the annoying dragon. The woman looked at her with a look of disappointment, which only pissed off Yrel even more, especially when she realized the damn woman wouldn’t leave before she took the token.

Even after the other True Dragon was gone, Yrel’s mood didn’t improve, and the more she thought about it, the angrier she grew. Clenching her fists, she kept replaying the conversation in her mind, cursing the woman whom she once called an aunt and the pathetic Dragonflight that felt like nothing but a collar around her neck, restraining her freedom.

Calling her incensed would be an understatement.

You know what? They say I’m acting out? I’ll show them what acting out really looks like.

I'm not sure why I didn't think the true dragon would be an interesting character, but boy am I glad to be proven wrong, can't wait for the eventual fight!

Jabirttok

Well let's all give yrelstromoz a big thank you for her sacrifice to the cause of Jake's growth!

Unwillingmainer

Dragonbane poison and a dragon that needs a good killing, Guess once Jake fixes up his Palate he'll have a target.

Ghast Renave

Thanks for the chapter!

TFTC Time to get good!

Bettafish

Congratulations, you've been selected for Horizon Poison delivery services. Please dont gain any redeeming qualities while your arrow is on its way.

Brandon Yarberry

Oh man, i hope the GFK gets to watch this fight and enjoy the schadenfreude of someone else's arrogance getting smacked down by Jake

RnR_ RnR

Yessss!!!! Also great work on the time skip. It definitely helps keep pacing of progress on track. And im pretty excited yrel to feel that gaze of being hunted. That fear of "Oh no, I fluffed up..."

Bettafish

I really hope we get a POV from that emberflight dragon that sicced Helen on Jake when they get the message from Villy that Jake's looking to hunt a dragon

Roy

She's pressing the fuck around button, time to find out.

Chris

Lumenflight gonna send the chosen or smth

Thanks for the chapter

I guess it is time for some pest control

Keldra

3 year time skip, wow

Shit now I want a golden doorknob

Joseph Dizdar

And we have a winner! Their prize? Dragonsbane Poison!

This is quite stupid XD it was clearly stated that killing many low level beings can harm one's records and Path, so she's so Prideful that she's even considering that...

Ohhhh yes please. Alternatively a POV from the dragon girl that tried to get his kid would be great Honestly the next little bit has a lot of Dragon POV potential

I can see it now, Jake has her almost dead…she reaches out and the Aunt shows up. The sky turns dark Green. “We wouldn’t want to interrupt my Chosen’s hunt now would we?”

Thanks for the chapter!

Fyrtue

So much time has passed now between the pantheon and alchemy. Nephew Adam is going to be what, mid to late teens next time we see him. It'll be neat to see what kind of path he's going.

deus vault

Kinda sounds like Jake targeting a rebellious teenage orphan. Pretty sad honestly.

Daniel Jackson-Woods

That poor dragon, I fear shes not l9ng for this multiverse

Kyler

Disclaimer: if any redeeming qualities are gained during first delivery, we reserve the right to ignore them. As you are already paying the fee, for such luxury service.

NovaZero

Hunter's Meditation unlocked. Jake realises he thrives on the hunt and that there is nothing more clarifying for the mind than to search for that distant Horizon . Increased resource regeneration during and after hunts. Maybe?

Crysus

I wonder, what if while Villy is looking for viable targets for Jake, he see’s the court of shadows have an open contract out for this Yrel, and convinces Umbra to sub this job out to Jake?

Charlie Jones

I'm not entirely sure if she will be the target. I say that only because she seems like a teenager acting out. Could be a bait and switch or it could just be digging her grave already.

Orod

My thoughts exactly. That or the elders hold her back. Depends on what she does to "show them up"

BumAssBumAss

All that's left is for Jake to upgrade palate and meditate before he goes hunting again. Honestly want to see meditate upgrade above mythical, but considering that nature's attendant commented that his bow was impossible to be above mythical, we probably will see it as mythical.

Hayden Leech

Replace that with “rebellious teenage serial mass murderer” and it’s less sad

Orod

Jake about to take another powerful being that has decide to only oppress the weak in show of how "strong" they are. Kinda like the bull that had mind powers

Sammot

Doesnt really matter, she killed thousanfs maybe millions of individuals without caring at all. If its a teenager acting out or not it doesnt matter anymore because of what she did.

Sammot

No he wanted one that was part of the sages legacy, so i dont think its gonna be hunters or whatever but more in line with the sage.

Levi

Just a little bit more left in the training Arc then we'll get 15-20 chapters of Jake bullying the fuck out of this orphan.

Rodney

I'm usually not a fan of the arrogant young master/mistress trope but it's mostly because I dislike the how dare you defend yourself you should have just let them kill you Even if the MC has a higher station and they just don't realize it but in this case since they've already given up on her this is going to be fun.

Ender419

And let the hunt begin! I can see this fighting arc taking half as long as the Elhakan one but more intense. I just hope she doesn’t use that token when she is on the verge of death by Jake or worst when her aunt arrives to help her she realizes it is the Chosen of the Malefic One that was given the bounty to slay Yrel and ends up doing it herself to stay true to the promise to Yrel’s parents thus taking away his first solo true dragon B-grade kill while in C grade.

Levi

What will do more damage, the stealth proton arrow filled with bane poison or saying "I used parts of your parents to make the bane poison"?

Mikesch

Another 3 years later. His little nephew will be all grown up, next time he visits. He will have to buy lots of overdue B-day and Christmaspresents

Wselby64

Anybody have any idea on how many years it's been since jake had been to see his family. It has got to be a good decade atleast from what I can remember and im kinda looking forward to seeing how much his nephew has grown he should be a proper adult now. And tyftc.

Lemonsqueezy

Kid is definitely grown up. It has been over a decade since he last saw his nephew.

AfroMocha

We still have a solid week before the dragon fight. I imagine the next few chapters will be Jake upgrading his meditate skill, and then a couple more chapters of this dragon then we’ll get some POV of what the other characters have been doing in the last three years. Then we’ll get a series of chapters of Jake fixing pallet and then maybe the week after that we’ll get Jake versus the dragon and then that will be like five chapters so there’s a lot of content to come not to mention some people mentioning dragon POV’s would be hilarious.

Pierre-clément LAMBRIX

I love and hate these dragon villain backstory building. I can already see jake going to hunt yrel and I feel conflicted about it.

Orod

Just re-read the chapter. The part of the Dragon roar coming from inside of him stood out to me. Are we possible going the route of "Draconic-Human" for Jake's species? Or was it just a resonance from Villies blood drop.

Cory S.

Wasn’t expecting the time skip but at the same time I’m surprised it wasn’t longer and surprised again it only resulted in 2 levels. I guess I shouldn’t be since it’s been mentioned again and again how long it takes to get levels the higher you go. Guess we are in for some major time skips in the future. Thanks for the chapter.

Chegs

Can’t wait to see “Event Horizon” skill in use…gonna be epic

C0bra$

Thank u for the story

Jordan Rogers

Wish the name of of his victim had already been told to him, he could be building momentum this whole time for the hunt and potentially one shot the dragon if he also shot from super far away with all the other magnifiers

Fyrtue

Pretty sure it meant within the cauldron/poison not within Jake.

Sarianne

Wow Yrel is a rwal piece of work n🤦🏼‍♀️

Sarianne

Seriously, he's not been for a visit for a long, long time. Btw, love your profile picture

Devillelouch

Thank you for the chapter. Still waiting for the post teacher reveal and why it couldn't be next to or partially revealed after the mini arc. I am still mostly confuzzled on why the filler mini arc was needed.

Shai182

TFTC! Shame, such a silly Dragoness...

Ben Cox

I'm getting serious vibes that yrel's aunt already knows Jake's on the prowl for true dragons that need to be put down cuz that read like "I know you're about to be hunted by one of the most dangerous C-grades in existence" instead of just more generalized worry about your niece. Can't wait to see more of our dragonslayer arc tyftc

DaMule

Z getting sneaky with his foreshadowing, que evil laughter! 😉

KevB

If Yrel wasn't doomed before, she sounds like she's about to be.

Jason Hardman

Teenage angst in dragon form.

Daniel

Jake puts down a Karen dragon

Khris Kruel

thank you yrel for your sacrifice

David Hall

Ooh an angsty totally not a phase light dragon. Now will she truly be the target for the Nevermore Team Reunion hunt ( is that a thing still? or did they drop it) . The fact that Yrel is acting like she's 20 and knows everything makes me think that Jake isn't gonna kill her, but instead circumstances will flip and team kidnap jake will interrupt and somehow Yrel becomes a dragon version of Scarlett.

Valk

In a odd sort of way kind of think it would be funny if Yrelstromoz learned that Jake was on the hunt for dragons and went running to her aunt for help and asking forgiveness. Only later to learn that he killed a dragon stronger then her and her name was only removed from the dragons clan kill list at the last second.

KenTX325

I’m a fan of having the occasional time skip. If it’s been 3 years, has it been 10 since he last got a drop from the viper statue in Haven? Also, hope he gets to run the new Menga labyrinth before B grade.

Kt-x

Oooooh! Thanks for the chapter! 😁

Mikesch

I was wandering if he forgot the skill. It is not Jake like to not test it asap. Lets see if it is another ambarissing Jake moment, or if it will be explained away

Loststar7

TFTC. Good call from those yesterday guessing Yrelstromoz was from the Lumenflight. Hope everyone has a great day.

Jason Scott

Nah Villy would step in and tell the Auntie to let him cook. Jake's not the type to let his prey go. He might try and kill the Auntie for stepping in on his kill.

Mikesch

I actually dont hope so. I am looking toward this fight for so long, there does not need to be more intrigues and plottwists. Just Jake and his bow and a few nice Upgrades along the way

KenTX325

If the series is going to cover the path through B,A, and S grade then time skips will be needed. If the plan is to use a shortcut to pass these levels or end the series before this, then Zog can continue the current pace. I’m looking forward to the higher levels but things will be different as Jake would have to have bigger cosmic type powers. I don’t see the lone hunter thing working as an A grade.

ABTelford

Thx for the chapter

Tom C

I’m excited about Jake hunting Yrel now. From this quite short interaction Zogarth has shown Yrel’s character to have real depth beyond just being an arrogant dragon who cares nothing for mortals. This means there’s something extra for the fight if Jake goes up against her. Even if she is sorry I doubt he will hold back - he’s got a goal after all. But it means I don’t just blanket hate the antagonist for being evil, cos there’s some grey in there. What led her to be this way? If she’d been nurtured more effectively would she be a better dragon, could she have avoided her fate as Jake’s first true dragon hunt? Exciting stuff! TFTC! Edit to add: but there is a difference between - teenager rebelliousness, going out graffiting stuff and getting drunk or high… and teenage rebelliousness, going out and casually slaughtering towers full of sapient beings…! She will learn the error of her ways 🤣

JW Saxby

Tyftc! 🍻

smore

We'll finally see the skill Event Horizon in action!!

Rewdan

Thanks Zogarth, dragon bane poison done, meditate a step away and then palate. Let’s go get that dragon.

Rewdan

Don’t worry Jake won’t make a bane for you.

Rathalosblood

just imaging after a long and hard fight yrel realize she is about to die and useses the token and gets saved by this new dragon. jake would be so mad

Matthew Paulin

Aah. I was wondering why we got a chapter talking about side characters everyone forgot existed. Lillian and Philip and co are going get killed by the bratty dragon.

brjenness

Jake's snakebane = new beer for villy?

austin kutz

This feels like the "but the bullies have a bad home life" thing to me. She might be more than that, but she definitely is that too

Biggy smalls

Nah, the B grade isn’t in the 93rd. Villy couldn’t have been watching them close up the way he did if they were.

Bjarne Hansen

The Bane of True Dragons, Yrel ... you're up

Mikesch

Huh, did not look at it like that, you are right. Imagine Jake throwing a bottle at the dragon mid fight and she asks him confused why he is offering her a drink mid battle 🥂

Benjamin Mages

I mean, this is Yrel "Your food wasn't good enough so I'm blowing up the building with a bunch of innocent people in it" stromez. There's nothing to feel conflicted about. She may have slightly more depth than a complete nutjob but she still needs to be put down for the safety of everyone else.

InfernoDroid

The beginning was essentially, look Jake will get the meditation skill upgrade right before/after he fights the true dragon, and then his going to be reaching B grade very soon after. I think we are a few weeks away from Jake's B grade arc. Time to return to the competition for the great wonder.

joel southard

Thank you for the chapter

Nate

Imagine after a long and hard fight she uses the token only for her aunt to show up and be like, "This is why I begged you to come home you idiot. The Malefic One decided you're just a punching bag now, so bye, Felicia."

Xander

TFTC :) Yay for Jakes progress. heres hoping the Yrel fight lets us see what event horizon does. My moneys on a quasi-void sphere :D Suggested edits: "with full *resources*, while well-rested, and with a mana potion ready to go the second he started getting low *in resources*." Repetition. Suggest ending the sentence at "low" "the heart began *getting dissolved* as" clunky phrasing. Suggest "dissolving" instead "teetering on the *edge* of turning unstable at all times, with Jake barely hanging on by the *edge*. " repetition. Either you meant "end" here or perhaps use a phrase like "by his fingernails" instead for the end section. "A *faint* pulse of energy was emitted from the cauldron as Jake *faintly* felt like he heard the roar of a dragon from within." repetition. Maybe " Jake felt like he heard the ghost of a dragons roar"? or a *weak pulse of energy" "of ancient rarity *of* above, something" should be "or" "The woman *looked* at her with a *look* of disappointment," repetitive. Maybe "gave her a look of disappointment" or ditch the "a look of"

Anthony Smith

Lumenflight??? What do you think is their affinity? Light?

brjenness

I think it's like my grampa used to say, "when life gives you lumens, you use dragon bane."

Nate

It takes time to investigate 1000 people where one of those people is maybe going to eventually report to an organization that can hide godkings from the rest of the multiverse

John Durrett

MMm... Imagining Jake fixing Palette before he takes on the Yrel. Then when he's killed her off, he can put her heart in his pallet furnace as his reward.

John Durrett

tyftc. Getting spicy in here. :)

DeAndrea H

That token makes it interesting. It makes me think of that dragon kin that grabbed Villy at the restaurant prior to Jake’s reveal as Chosen. Villy took his arm and dumped him in a swamp. He used his token and his A grade uncle shows up and is like “oh shit. What did you do?” That might happen again where the aunt shows up and Yrel is SOOO relieved only to find out it’s the Chosen and her aunt can’t intervene or give her shelter.

Morazain

Thanks, i enjoyed this chapter also, check the section on the bane poison from the system. " inflicting body and soul simultaneously" I think damage or something is supposed to be in there.

Daryl

I find Yrel somewhat sympathetic. I won't miss her when she's gone, but I'll pity her in her dying moments. A nihilistic god killed by an ambitious mortal. If only she had found her path.

Carl Never

Comments got me currious do we know what event horizon does or is it a full surprise?

Jason K

Not going to lie, I think this is the most anticipation I've felt so far. I love the slow build, I love that we're starting to know the target in advance, that they have a character and aren't just a free exp sack. Ever since the concept of a demigod was introduced way back when, I've been eager to see what Jake will be like at that point, and this feels like a taste of that. Thanks for the chapter!

Sir M

It's been coalescing in my head for a while and I shall now make my prediction. Whoever tried to kidnap Jake isn't after the juice instead they possess some sort of ability that allows them to make use of the dead thus the dead gods that don't mind dying and what they're after is the sage. Somehow whoever it is knows that Jake witnessed the sage "die" in order to end the vision. And they believe using Jake they could get access to the sage. If they could then it would absolutely be worth it with the sage's powers they might be able to kill anyone. This theory would also explain why we saw the sage fight and Jake's instintive refusal to believe the sage could kill him.

I though about that too, but after I considered it for awhile I think it does actually work as written. You could say "the poison is inflicting his body" but I agree usually inflicting is used with damage rather than alone.

Takoda Heitz

50/50 on that. We know it adds damage based on distance and it seems to make Jake able to even hit targets from further away. It should be utterly ridiculous when stacked with all his other passives. I’m also guessing it will give him some extra control over his environment and synergize well with pride and such.

Firstly, thank you for the chapter Zogarth!!!! Another banger that I’m so damn happy to read!!! Secondly, I think I’m going to stop reading for a couple weeks, 2 at most I think. That way when I come back I can use one of my days off of work and crafting to binge like 18-20 chapters like I used to. It’s going to be so nice rather than having to wait every day! It’ll be like reading a mini book you know? It’ll be hell though, forcing myself to not read every day after getting the patreon notifications every day 😭😭 I’m so absolutely hyped for B-Grade and definitely cannot wait for Jake to face down a dragon in earnest!!! Aaaaaahh!! It’s so damn exciting reading every chapter, even ones that don’t have anything to do with Jake or the Viper! Everything that’s written in this story just hits that perfect fantasy itch you know????

Hayden Leech

I really hope we see a lot of this fight from Yrel POV!!

Prospects

I think the fact that Jake is going to fight a light affinity dragon hilarious, I know he doesn’t really have any weaknesses to certain affinities but light magic is the closest thing he has to a weak point. He really likes to make it difficult on himself.

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Anthony Smith

Can't wait for event horizon. The chances are slim but I hope it's an OP skill and he 1 shots a true dragon.

Shadovvnight

She going to fall for the true apex predator and he will never hear the end of it from the sword saint.

Anthony Smith

B Grade Profession ideas. Currently he's a Heretic Chosen with the mindset of equel friends being the trigger for it. But now Jake is getting friendly with other gods, Yggy, Nature's Attendant, Minaga, Artemis, Valdamar, Seeker, Umbra. Curious if the restriction of getting blessed by additinal gods will be lifted.

Austin Barton

We haven’t seen it used and the description doesn’t say anything about limiting the power so I think with enough space a one shot is likely.

Austin Barton

I can see it already he marks the dragon with both mark and horizon. Builds hunting momentum. Shoots an arrows from across multiple solar systems and boom disappointing one shot fight like most of the other grade leaps.

beeve

I did this for a week.. now I’m back everyday. once you wait for a period of time you don’t want to do it again

Fdrugc

He should visit his parents

Phil Ritter

Villy isn’t one to downplay fights. If he says Jake needs to do his very best to have a fighting chance he will really need to. He struggled at first with the hunting grounds in the Pantheon and those were at the bottom of the barrel. He hasn’t gotten that much stronger since then

Trumangolorian

Tyftc. I hope it is a good back and forth (chapter wise) like the Umbra chimera fight.

Gabe Stankiewicz

The aunt will show up, and Yrel will be like “Aunt! This human dares to attack me and bring me to this state! Kill him!!!” And her aunt will just look with pity, and tell Jake to just kill her quickly and get it over with. Gonna be a badass 5-6 chapters, I can’t fucking wait 🙏🙏🙏

Nick Brakhage

Was Yrel from earlier in the series or a new character? Wasn't there some dragons that messed with Jake before he was outed at the order?

Greg Alverson

I am wondering at how she is linked to lillian being a lumen dragon and the chapter that talked about lillian. Is jake going to use her parts to help lilian after hunting her down, is she going to go after lilian because of the elemental link? I am confident she is going to kill some more people and jake will be given the ok to hunt her one way or another.

I feel like we will get more like this in the future. Not every enemy, mind you, but B grade is where the truly intelligent and pinnacle beings let their light shine so we may see more depth in the enemy arcs.

Nick Borgne

Loved the alchemy section then learning the new character is a rogue dragon nice bow on top TYFTC

“You’re just convincing me more to stay the fuck away,” Yrelstromoz crossed her arms, (reining)reigning in her aura as she knew she wasn’t capable of threatening the other party.
