btw, fantastic and much-overlooked JDB: "Edge of Darkness", the classic '80s British TV miniseries by his future Bond director Martin Campbell.

Michael and Us

I've had this recommended to me many times, and just bought the DVD in wake of JDB's death. Will I find time to watch it? Only time will tell. -WS

“You guys watch Joe Don Baker movies?”

My last name is Goodspeed and from '96 to '02 grown ups would frequently say to me, a child, 'ah Goodspeed, you seen The Rock?' and ~ 8 year old me would reply 'no'

Luke’s sources are correct – ‘The Hateful Eight’ definitely sucks. All the sincerity and character of ‘Jackie Brown’ had fully left Tarantino’s pen by the time of its release, and instead you get a film from a stone-cold idiot who has been told for a solid decade what a genius he is. Absolute garbage.

I like how Will lampoons Sorkin’s middlebrow music takes and then follows immediately with “actually he’s right.”

OMG, I was so obsessed with The Rock back in the summer of 1996.

The late Tomy Todd was the main villain in The Rock!

I remember Joe Don Baker as the bumbling CIA agent in Goldeneye who fixes his car with a sledgehammer and calls Bond "Jimbo".

Mitchell is a great MST3k episode. They had started to figure out that the best movies to do had to be mockable in the right kind of way. Those 50s and 50s horror and sci-fi movies were often so slow paced that there ended up being a ton of dead air. Mitchell is actually not that bad of a movie and is mostly great for the show because Mitchell himself is such a funny sad sack. Also worth noting the anti right wing angle — the rich guy murders the burglar and there is no question that Michell is going to nail his ass. No “maybe he deserved it, stand your ground” equivocation.

"And, Wade, don't touch any of the buttons on that car." "It's just going to go bombing around, isn't it?" "Exactly."

James Browning

Have a little faith in me! They need to bring that one back!
