Dear super-delagates, I humbly request one of you suggest "Escape Plan 2: Hades". Some of the best confusing dialogue and plot. Cheers

Evan Lowenstein was in an early 00s pop rock boy band with his brother lol, that's what Evan & Jaron refers to https://youtu.be/NZkM_nOJ3d4?si=AH33JwEa2cE9h0ww

Also a very recent convert to Roman Catholicism, currently complaining about "sola scriptura" on Twitter. Under a saner, historical definition of "evangelicalism," this is plainly "anti-evangelical." But in this particular corner of contemporary American Christianity, "evangelical" identity is so centred on right-wing politics and so untethered from historical evangelical theology, that a pundit's conversion to Roman Catholicism can be pretty seamless. Repudiating one of the core doctrines of evangelical theology will presumably cost Sorbo approx. zero fans. The founders of Angel Studios are actually Mormons—that is, from the perspective of the historical theology of evangelicals and Catholics alike, damnable heretics!! That partnership with Mormons does not even slightly register as a problem for the people making "faith-based" movies goes to show how little actually-God-related content the container "faith" has for them.

Has it come up on the show yet that Michael Tait of Newsboys (vocalist of “God’s Not Dead”) is going down hard for sexual assault and the band was dropped from the label? Could have GND repercussions. https://julieroys.com/former-newsboys-frontman-michael-tait-accused-sexual-assault-grooming-substance-abuse-dating-back-to-2004/

Found it very funny that Sorbo's character actually hit on a valid criticism of missionary trips like the one mentioned here. Haitians and Global South people do not need to have a well dug for them, they know how to do that. Also, regarding empirical evidence, reminded me of this great Aisling McCrea article from current affairs years ago: https://www.currentaffairs.org/news/2021/02/satanic-panics-and-the-death-of-mythos

Although I have not seen the Neal McDonough-starring Angel Studios movie Homestead, I have read the script. Had to do a report on it for work and proceeded to laugh about about how unsubtle it was. I cannot speak to the quality of the finished product. But I can tell you the script contained hamfisted metaphors about freeloading refugees, conniving government workers, and survivalists forming a paramilitary. There is also a moment where a character is scripted as making Black Rifle Coffee, the specificity of which is hilarious because it’s a post-apocalyptic setting and all food is in short supply. Would love to hear an episode on Homestead down the line! Looks like the director Ben Smallbone is one half of a Christian pop duo and back in 2016, he made a film about sex trafficking called Priceless. Yet another instance of the Christian right using trafficking as the ultimate boogeyman!

I would say this is a great review that explains why people find Asteroid City moving. https://boxd.it/6IKY6f

Christian filmmaking is quite interesting. I was asked to be a DOP on a film titled “Christian’s on trial” i did it as a favour and I am not affiliated with the church nor am I a religious person. I won’t get into how bizarre the whole experience was but the structure of the film was this: one atheist professor had three to four Christian’s on his channel and tried to convince them of the absence of god, but the twist was that they convinced him to the presence of god through their testimonies. This was a documentary, but it was fake. Not like a mockumentary just a documentary that pushes the boundaries of its ethics. The atheist professor was a clearly closeted homosexual man named Ryan who wanted to be called “Ry-Anne” who was a member of the church that was funding this project and was the architect of this project. The film was never intended to be broadcast, it was only to be screened for the members of the church and they knew it was fake but went ahead and did it anyway. I still to this day, do not know whom this was for and why they dumped this money into something that they all knew was fake. I guess that is truly kayfabe.

The Church = Isis thing popped up on one of my social media feeds this week, with people comparing what's going on in the US to sharia law. Far from being a goblin of the 2017 evangelical mind, it's a real thing in 2025. I saw someone lamenting 'more Newsroom content?' in one of the comments recently. By contrast, the appeal for more of these Sorbo-style films worries me. I find this yanking at low-hanging fruit not particularly entertaining, given that the same points keep coming up, and you're in danger of becoming a mirror-image of the way the film-makers treat what they don't like about secular people. With the Sorkin content, I've found the analysis of the goblins in HIS mind both entertaining and enlightening. I feel there still might be something to be uncovered there.
