The "drugs" he was doing in the opening scene was just tobacco in a form called "snuff".

It’s cool you notice the Batman similarities Zorro was one of the influences in Batmans creation. This also gets referenced in some versions of the Wayne’s murder they were walking home from the movies having seen the Tyrone Power Mark of Zorro movie. There were jokes leading up to The Batman releasing that Robert Pattinsons Batman was the right age to have been seeing this Zorro film the night they died.
