As someone who grew up with 2000AD (the comic Dredd was in) Karl Urban nailed the character and really embodied the spirit of the comic. I honestly couldn't see anyone else doing this role so well. Dredd is famous for never revealing his face which thankfully this film stuck to unlike the Sylvester Stallone version in 1995 where he spent the majority of the film with his face revealed.. Anderson was also a side character in the comics and became very popular leading to having her own stories. They covered a lot of different things going from serious commentary to wacky over the top stories.

This was a really fun one to watch with you Nat! You're so right this movie knows what it is and decides to be the best possible version of itself. I wish we had gotten another one because it's so well executed and fun.

Predator: Badlands for the next movie poll and Predator: Killer of Killers for an animated movie poll. I’m probably gonna keep saying this until it happens lol. Please don’t ban me.

Anderson didn’t quit at the end. The final shot is her walking out of the halls of justice with her helmet. 90 minutes is the perfect length for an action movie. While this is a good movie, in 3D, on a big screen, it’s an excellent one. It’s a pity it didn’t do better and it should get an imax revival.

It really is like this movie and Speed Racer that melts my brain with the colors

I love how this movie is just another regular day on the life of Dredd 😆

Karl Urban was Eomer in Lord Of the Rings the Two Towers and Return of the King. He wasn't in Gladiator

Regarding what Anderson was reading from Dredd at the beginning: I don't know if the comic started this way, but it definitely gets into mythological/paranormal as it goes. There's a character called Judge Death that is the antithesis of all life and whose spirit is able to jump into other minds. I wonder if Anderson's line is just a little tease for that storyline. Maybe a plot hook for a sequel that never happened?

Dredd’s scowl is a very important character trait and Karl Urban nails it 😂

Great to see this reaction, always loved this one for what it is! For that device at the end I figure either MaMa was bluffing about the explosives, the device was faulty, or it is the most poorly designed trigger in the world. The first two make the most sense, the latter would require the device to have a connection and register her heartbeat stopping, instead of just going off it the bomb stops getting a signal from the trigger. Meaning shooting it off her arm, destroying it, would have had the same effect. The fall is obviously much more cinematic (if a bit bloody).

Nat, I don’t think Judge Anderson quit. That was her leaving the precinct at the end: she was carrying her “New” helmet.
