“Kraut” is a somewhat derogatory term for a German that’s been around since at least WWI. The necklace hanging on the steering wheel the guy said something like “Chris is driving” referred to St. Christopher. It was a medallion with St. Christopher who is the patron saint of travelers and sailors. I’m not sure I understand your reference to “The Hunt for Red October” beyond the submarine. That movie took place 40 years later during the cold war and was about a man defecting from Russia to the US.

I liked this look back at yet another part of Angel's past. It is weird to see Spike with jet black hair like that. James Marster's hair is naturally dark, but not quite that shade. He could get it in any shade. :P
