Robert Zemeckis directed this as well as many others including the Back to the Future Trilogy. Future Robert Zemeckis films that I have no doubt you will want to watch: Contact (1997), Forrest Gump (1994), Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), Death Becomes Her (1992), and Castaway (2000).

On my 21st birthday I went to nyc for a concert. We took the 15 dollar China town to China town bus bos to ny. Told my buddy the plan 15 dollar bus to nyc, he asks " is it like the bus from romancing the stone. " I didn't know the movie at the time but my buddy kept bringing that joke up again explaining to people how we got to nyc. We talked to the opening act mc Chris told him about the 15 dollar bus, he asked," was it was like the bus from romancing the Stone?"

Edward Olson

Mary Ellen Trainor ("That blonde looks familiar...") from Scrooged (network board member), Die Hard (newscaster), and Lethal Weapon (police psychologist). This and Lethal Weapon are her most prominent roles. Other Mary Ellen Trainor minor appearances in Forrest Gump (1994) and Death Becomes Her (1992) and also reappears in all the sequels to Lethal Weapon...

Future Boy

I'm pleasantly surprised to see Romancing The Stone come up today! And it reminds me of The War of the Roses, another film starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, which would actually make a great ANTI-valentine choice, since it's a very dark comedy about a romance going horribly wrong...

Future Boy

And The Goonies as the mom! And The Monster Squad, also as the mom!

Michael Johnson

The sequel is okay too. Its called Jewel of the Nile

Tony Williams

Kewl. I guess this gives me something to do tonight after work. Yeah, I know, I lead a very exciting life of action and mystery, so everyone just chill with y'alls jealous comments before they even get started. Peace.

Be Kind

Jon, you’re killing it, man. 😎 This film is like a perfect Saturday matinee. Always fun.

Lynnetta

Ooh. Another fun one I haven't seen in ages!

Be Kind

Kathleen Turner might sound familiar to you if you’ve seen the sitcom, “Friends.” (I don’t take anything for granted w/you, Ashleigh.) She played Chandler’s dad who sang in Vegas and went to Chandler & Monica’s wedding.

Be Kind

Well at least your bus didn’t break down. 😝 When did you actually see the movie? Or is this your first time?

Bill Bevins

I'm so glad you liked this movie. I've been requesting it for months. Now you need to do the sequel, Jewel of the Nile. You probably know Kathleen Turner by her voice. She did the voice of Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Micheal Douglas is the son of iconic actor Kirk Douglas. Other good movies of his include Coma, The China Syndrome and The Star Chamber. Danny DeVito is great in Twins, Ruthless People, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and his best role as the Penguin in the second Batman movie.

Bill Bevins

Also has Danny DeVito in it. Not a very comfortable movie to watch.

Michael Waldrep

Good choice by Jon. The sequel, The Jewel Of The Nile, was pretty good too. Holland Taylor played Tom Hanks' boss in Bosom Buddies in the early 80's.

Be Kind

WAR OF THE ROSES (1989) Dark Comedy I’d be up for that. I think we’ve run out of month for Valentine’s films, but it could fit into a comedy month or maybe there will be an “anything goes” kind of month of genres. For those unfamiliar, Dark Comedies make light of subject matter that’s generally serious or painful to discuss.

Jerrod Acree

Another childhood favorite of mine! Showed this to my 6 year old son. He loved it. Thank you!

Be Kind

COMA (1978) Thriller/Horror Oh, I haven’t thought of that film in ages. It’s sooo good! One of the first films I saw when HBO started. I was riveted! Michael Crichton directed and wrote the screenplay, which was based on his book. Ashleigh, some of his other books adapted to film/TV are Jurassic Park and the Westworld TV series currently on HBO.

Mark Lee

Small bit of trivia. The name on the stern of the sailboat is "Angelina", which is also the name of the heroine in the western she was writing at the start of the movie. John Colton was played by Michael Douglas, who is the son of Kirk Douglas. MIchael Douglas was also Dr. Pym in the Ant Man Marvel Movie.

The very first Oscars were in 1929. Since then, only 3 films have won all 5 major awards: Screenplay, Actress, Actor, Director, Picture. It Happened One Night (1934) One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) Silence of the Lambs (1991) We should def see at least 2 of these.

Be Kind

Kathleen Turner’s best film imo is BODY HEAT (1981) Noir/Mystery. It’s sooo good! We should watch it. 🤓

ingibingi2000

i made it a point to watch it after that weekend. i dont think it was right away but it i did i think it was on a torrent

Be Kind

Sniffing the cat food was a joke set-up. They were trying to make it look like fancy food for her, like pate. Then, you find out it’s cat food. 😝🐈 The statue wasn’t a riff on her book. Burying a worthless bunny statue doesn’t make sense, and being a writer, she spent lots of time thinking of ways to hide things.

Alexander Fish

Ted White, the bad cowboy in the beginning if the movie, was a long time stuntman who also played Jason in Friday the 13th part 4.

Be Kind

“Sarah Paulson could get it.” Well, okay then. 😋

Robert Gruhn

Saw this as a kid and the sequel too. I lived them then. It gives me Crocodile Dundee vibes. Or vice versa since this came first.

Be Kind

FORREST GUMP (1994) Romance/Drama A must-see for sure. Sooo many quotes. Plus, a global restaurant chain inspired by the movie. We need to get to Tom Hanks’ movies eventually.

Edward Olson

I hope not because it would go against the theme of her channel. There are countless other reactors who do the Marvel movies.

Edward Olson

It wasn't cat food. It was a can of Bumblebee tuna, which she said to the cat. It ws a special treat for the cat. Later, she is shown leaving Kal Kan cat food for when she is out of the country.

Be Kind

CROCODILE DUNDEE (1986) Comedy/Adventure Same Saturday Matinee vibes. Really fun and funny. We should def watch that. 🐊 Hmm, funnily enough, it also inspired an American restaurant chain, Outback Steakhouse, to capitalize on the Aussie popularity.

Be Kind

Oh, I stand corrected. Haven’t seen the full-length in many moons. That was my take on the reaction version. 🤓

Bill Bevins

I am so bored with all the Super hero movies. I stopped watching the MCU after Iron Man 3.

Ken - Kendo161

she did not age well for a movie star good ole' cigarettes I assume

Kate Cassidy

Holland Taylor movie: Legally Blonde. 👩‍⚖️

Beth O'Brien

I love this movie and Jewel of the Nile the sequels. But Kathleen Turner another fun movie these two are in is War of the Roses. Then Kathleen Turner is in a super cheesy movie from 1994 called Serieal Mom. Oh and another fun one is Under Cover Blues.

Be Kind

Two other adventure films w/similar vibes are: JURASSIC PARK (1993) and THE MUMMY (1999) w/Brendan Frasier — NOT the Tom Cruise one (diff vibe). Super-fun popcorn movies that we should watch. 🤓

Be Kind

Does everyone feel the same way about not looking at the poster of the movie? Idk who has ever gone to the movies w/o at least seeing the poster and the tag line. The anticipation is part of the experience and can put you in a better frame of mind to enjoy the film. Or do you really think it’s a spoiler?

Tony Williams

I'm 100% with you on this. Not only the posters, but we would see the TV ads played for weeks before the flick hit the boxoffice. I don't think the posters are a problem at all.

Mark Sylvester

I am with you both on this. The TV ads and pre-movie trailers gave way more away then a poster. So we had these movies way more spoiled back when they came out then Ashleigh does now by seeing a poster. Plus I kind of like seeing her guess by looking at the poster. It is part of the fun. I am fine if she wants to limit how much she does it to make it a special occasion kind of thing but shouldn't not do it because of some people comments.

Edward Olson

I think there was a clear demonstration of how it spoiled Groundhog Day when she looked at the poster and read it. I think the text was more of a problem. Ashleigh instantly formulated what was going to happen and she even came to the immediate conclusion that Phil was going to have to learn something to get out of it. In 2004 I watched the trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Village and I figured out the entire plot including the twists and was right. I love that movie for the performances and to this day I wish I hadn't seen the trailer. I don't watch any trailers now or look closely at their posters because I don't want to be spoiled or even create expectations for myself. I don't think the picture of the poster is a problem generally, but the poster of Romancing the Stone would have given away that she ended up in the jungle. It was a lot of fun watching her go through the whiplash of the settings -- first she thought it was a western, then it was NYC and then it was Colombia. I don't think she ever needs to see the poster, and it can only hurt in some cases. People look at posters and trailers and commercials to decide if they are going to want to watch it. Ashleigh has us to tell her it's worth watching.

Kenton Kruger

I agree with Edward. Plus with so many movies she's doing now being audience picks, maybe those requesting the movie can say yay or nay as to whether she should look at the poster or not.

Kenton Kruger

Also, one of my favorite movie experiences ever was going to see Heathers. My friends were on their way to see it and ran into me, so I tagged along never having seen a commercial, poster, reading anything, just completely blind as to who was in it or what to expect.

Daniel Sitar

can you add twins to your possible future movie list. Danny Devito is in it. This movie and a comment you made reminded me of it.

Be Kind

Exactly, Mark. I think it is fun to hear her first impressions. It’s funny what she gets wrong, and she’s so proud of herself at the end when she gets something right.

Nessa Arandur

Yaaaay!! So glad you did this one and that you enjoyed it so much. I recommend the sequel, Jewel of the Nile, as well. Another collaboration starring Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas, and Danny DeVito is War of the Roses, which is kind of funny but also a bit tragic. I hope you react to that one too!

Be Kind

Edward, I hear you about the trailers. They are awful. It’s interesting you thought the poster spoiled Groundhog Day. I thought her reaction was great. She did say she was getting annoyed by how many times the day repeated. I can only imagine how much earlier she would’ve felt that had she not known the plot. For Romancing the Stone, it’s nice that YOU are entertained by her “whiplash.” Personally, it would try my patience. I just want her to enjoy the whole movie. I appreciate all your responses though. I was genuinely curious.

Eric Greenwood

i love war of the roses, plus kathleen turner in serial mom.. that is so epic

Rebecca Monk

I truly enjoyed watching this reaction - and HELLO PLUSHIE BEANS! I'm so glad you like him. You had me smiling throughout. :)

Brett Delbridge

Jewel of the Nile next. Watch the start again, wait have you seen back to the future? Robert Zemekis did both movies.

Eric Janssen

Jewel of the Nile was decidedly and unexpectedly "Meh". It's one of the movies I refer to when explaining why NOT to sequelize a romantic comedy where the couple gets married at the end of the first film.

Brett Delbridge

Eric yeah it’s certainly not as good.

Kevin Maynard

One more movie a week!!! please please please

Be Kind

I don’t remember the movie, but I do remember having that same sentiment. So many ppl rec-ing it ... maybe it will be better on re-watch w/lowered expectations. Idk. I’d prefer just skipping right over to The Mummy w/Brendan Frasier myself.

Manuel Johnen

She was married to some big producer or something, that's why she keeps appearing in all those 80s classics... :P

Manuel Johnen

"Romancing the Stone" is great, "Jewel of the Nile" is, eh, alright... or so...

Tony Williams

I'll also add that while it may be fun, and interesting for some, to have Ashleigh go into a movie completely blind, it can also have its downside. If I remember correctly (and I have been baked several times since that installment, so I may be wrong here, if so forgive me please.) she went into ET soon after she finished Alien and was a bit disappointed when the film turned out to be more of "family friendly" endeavor than she thought it was going to be from just the title. I suggest that had she seen the poster and had some small idea that the movie was going to have that vibe before she watched it, her feeling toward it would have been much different. Maybe not. Just my thoughts on it is all. Peace everybody.

Manuel Johnen

"Coma" is a great movie, haven't thought of that one in a while... probably time to give it another watch... :)

Eric Janssen

Maybe we can get a Marvel Wednesday, with Poll Monday and Millennial Request Friday.

Manuel Johnen

Oh my god, she actually recognized Danny DeVito... I wasn't prepared for that...

Anonymous

You should also watch the sequel; The Jewel of the Nile (not as great as this one, but fine) and also with the trio, turner, douglas and DeVito: War of the Roses... a great dark comedy

Eric Janssen

Second the vote for Croc (the first one): Also has a great romance-month ending, which the off-topic sequels...do not.

Autumn Bough

Definitely need to watch the sequel, The Jewel of the Nile. ASAP

Be Kind

I just know she seemed to hate ET, but your logic is sound to me. That’s exactly my point. I love movies, and spoilers would absolutely piss me off; however, I don’t consider the tagline a spoiler. The poster sets the mood. I just know if I had to figure out what was going on the first quarter of every movie, it would get on my damn nerves. It’s a good thing she loved this one; although, if there were one where she was on the fence, I think her affection for it would fall off that fence (maybe like ET). I want her to look at the poster for every movie.

Thomas Ivie

Here is the title song to the movie by Eddie Grant of Electric Avenue fame : https://youtu.be/dOsVohtbgxc Although the song reached #26 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart, an apparent dispute between the music artist and the movie’s producers left nearly all of the title song on the cutting room floor and completely off the soundtrack album. Only a remnant of the song — a guitar solo — can be heard in the scene when Douglas and Turner are in a small house in the jungle.

Eric Janssen

"Not as great"?...Then WHY are you recommending it?? (People, let's work on breaking the addiction: Sometimes, only one movie of a series was any darn good, and people out of high school don't need to show loyalty through mindless completism...)

Edward Olson

Hey, if you're going to be married to someone, it might as well be someone who makes great movies.

Brett Delbridge

As an Australian I’ve been pushing for crocodile Dundee big time it’s hilarious.

Edward Olson

Eric, you don't need to attack someone for their recommendation. He said it was a fine movie. Ashleigh liked the characters and the type of movie; the sequel is more of that. I don't expect Ashleigh to leap into sequels that she hadn't heard of before, but it's up to her. Be respectful.

Edward Olson

My impression was that she didn't like E.T. mainly because of how E.T. looked. She was especially disgusted by his long fingers. She couldn't get into the story because of it. There was a movie that I suggested to her and I looked at the poster to see if it would spoil anything and it had something that if she looked at the poster the biggest reveal of the story would have been blown before she started watching. In that case, the original poster didn't have that reveal; it was a subsequent release when I presume the distributor figured everyone knew. I don't always think looking at the poster is bad. I think reading text on a poster is almost always going to be bad. But I think the point of the reaction is the movie, and not the poster. I just want her to watch the movie and not focus on the poster or ever give it more than a cursory glance, if that much. A final point -- it's not like other reactors look at the poster so why shouldn't Ashleigh. I just canvassed some other reaction channels I'm subscribed to and literally NONE of them made any effort to look up the poster for more information (neither showed it on camera nor mentioned looking at it). Seeing the poster has ZERO positive benefit for movie enjoyment.

Paul Johnson

I can remember somebody( I'm really not sure who but it wasn't Weird Al) putting out a parody of the song called "Romancing the Stoned" with the lyrics full of weed references

Thomas Yanez

One of the things that drew me in was how she would look at the posters and make wild-assed guesses because it WAS different from what I saw other reactors do. l think she should decide for herself if it is something she likes doing. I also liked the suggestion made earlier that member-selected movies could come with guidance, instead of a set universal policy.

Thomas Ivie

I looked it up on YouTube and it doesn't have anything to do with the movie or parody of. They didn't even say the words Romancing the Stoned lol. The original is much better in this case unlike most Weird Al parodies... UHF might be a good movie for Ashleigh to check out one day. She seems to have that sort of sense of humor.

Paul Johnson

Actually i remembered where I heard it....a local radio station in my area used to do song parodies in the 80's and that's where I heard it...don't think it survived long enough to make YouTube :)
