Book 5, Chapters 5, 6 and 7.

Hey Everyone,

Here's the next batch of 3 chapters. I've arrived in Daytona yesterday, and suffering from a hangover today. Robert Locke and Chatfield are excellent drinking partners, if anyone was curious.

Let me know what you think of the chapters. :) I'll see you all next week for the next batch. And don't worry, you will eventually see Upgrade, I promise.

I wonder if the purple and silver bed is because of the silver cohort support or if they based it on the eye colour when using his two abilities? Only saying that because as soon as I read purple with silver trim I went with his eyes then read cohort support hahaha 😂

Well, atleast Sal remembered that *he* doesnt really want/need the *elixir* machine anymore. Maybe next time he’ll realize that Alex probably doesnt want the competition either, and just stick to the growth machine? Or better yet, just introduce Alex to the guy who thinks his growth talent is worthless and cut yourself out of an unwanted project altogether.

Interesting introduction to the new dorm and its occupants. Looks like Sal will have to have a go at Spectre sooner or later. Does Sal always have his "knotting" trump card handy?

A little feedback: I think Spectre's self exposition was a little too on the nose. If he's meant to be a recurring character in this trilogy, I think his intro fell a little flat. It gave off "NPC you're never seeing again" vibes IMO. Dude really said: "I'm the best Offence Class out of all the first years". "It's common knowledge I pick up techniques pretty fast". "You need to be the very best ... and that's what I'm aiming for." If he's planned to get as much screen time as Kane did, then I can understand, but I don't think that's the case.

Seth’s set up makes me question how he is rank 30 if his clones get weaker the more that are produced. Spectre gives me Raven vibes

I thought Sal was the top Saviour mainly because of his heroic actions. Mind you skills also factor in but… anyway I highly doubt Spectre is going to get anywhere. His skill is top notch but he doesn’t sound like a hero.🧐

Sal just is not guild master type of person. A guild master should be a person who stays on top of things and commicates well. Sal has let so many little things slide, and when he gets crafting he gets lost in his own little world. NO communication.

Have to remember he’s still basically a kid and learning. Most people aren’t natural guild masters they become them over time. Also there are a lot of different leader types. Some see the bigger picture and find the best people to facilitate that direction. We still don’t know what Sals type will be, he’s still learning and evolving. But he has the main component already, the willingness to fight for something he deems a worthy cause and is actively working towards that goal. He’s already putting the steps and work in to achieve that, how many people see something and say I wished that would change, compared to the people who actually try to change it. Give him time, he’s still evolving and growing as a person and leader. Can’t have him perfect at everything or the story would be boring.

I hadn't realized that Seth was a first year. When Alistair talked about the boy with clones, I thought it was a second year. Took me by surprise and also reminded me that we missed half of the announced Saviors because Sal was on vacation.

Tyftc. I don’t get it, Sal wants to be a crafter and lead a crafting guild but in these chapters he’s had a complete change of heart and wants to be known for his ability to fight instead? He can’t be assed to look at his upgraded simulation sphere or look at the essence programming Fabis done or chat up with friends? Nooo he’s straight to the sparring room to Perfect his silverston arts. I get he’s discovered he needs to get a better balance. But you don’t balance a boat by swinging as hard as you can from one side to the other.

I like the chapters. I truly like that Sal is trying to overcome the glaring deficiencies he sees in himself. True he’s a crafter, but he needs to face the reality of the demons and know he can take care of himself.

Hey, I've seen that Sal mirrors yourself a bit: he's drinking when you're drinking, hangover when you're hangover, back "home" when you're back home, finished with a project (Jackal) when you're finished with a project (book 4). So if you're not feeling up to making the elixir machine, don't! But if the plot requires it you have all the tools. Plants grow with air, water, time and energy from a blueprint stored in a seed. Essence solves energy, Growth solves time, Rooted solves air and water, Sal has the seeds already, and Figment can make Essence follow a blueprint. That would be a cool twist for that plotline.

I feel it’s because she all about crafting and dungeons and nothing but crafting and dungeons, and Sals trying to branch out and be forge an identity that’s not just crafting so there’s a bit of a disconnect with the pair.

He is already very proficient with his skill weaver and crafting abilities but neither do him any good when fighting demons. If he wants to keep the No.1 spot he needs to be more well rounded not just a crafter especially when his crafting ability does not get him the same contribution to his rank as Chatfield's tests. Sal needs to gain a base fighting ability and then use skills and crafting to augment his ability not use crafting and skills to plug a deficiency.

It might be the late addition as a character as well, she was teased a bit in the last books then suddenly she's here, paired with some distancing from his already established friends puts anything new squarely under a sour vibe.

He sounds like a hero but he is not a perfect personality. There is something to be said about how everyone's skill mirrors their personality and if his ability is adapt then he will constantly be pushing himself to increase and improve his adaptions which will have him butting heads with those he sees as having outclassed him.

Yeah it's a weakness of a lot of novels that Authors don't use all the letter of the alphabet for names before repeating themselves. It's less of an issue when they are throwaway characters but this is not the last time we will see Spectre or Seth if there intros are anything to go by.

I dont expect him to be perfect but him constantly making mistakes from just a lack of paying attention is getting old. How many times when building the Arkwright did he just accidentally press the wrong button. now hes working for hours with the complete wrong power weaves.

Guessing Spectre is going to be one of those characters you love to hate. Just one of those people who ooze arrogance. Can't wait to see Sal knock him down a peg or two. Would love to see the clone ability worked into his drone arm, having one drone turn into a small squad of drones would be epic.

I think the author is just pointing out that the perfect ability and visor can only work with what they're given and is showing that despite these abilities results can still be suboptimal

I think she is perfect for him. She both encourages him and keeps him grounded. I think the only thing that may of been a bit off putting for some is that they had an instant rapport there was no build up of their relationship, but it can happen especially when you have a seer practically guiding you to your perfect partner 😉. But it doesn't mean they won't have their struggles... sure it's coming

Hope the Silverson Arts analysis doesn't just turn out to be a glorified progress bar. QA should have their own martial arts modules Sal can buy. With more data, I think Judgement can keep adapting and improving Silverson Arts for Sal. Create multiple styles of combat. For example, incorporating something like Gun Fu into the Silverson Arts. A dual pistol wielding style with great agility and deadly kicks.

He reminds me of the guy on Limitless who thinks he can outplay the MC and the MC is like, sorry man, I'm ten steps ahead of you. You're playing checkers while I'm playing 3d chess. Because Specter is trying to take down Sal to get into the best guild, not realizing Sal is about to disrupt just about every facet of their world and just one of those facets includes owning and running the best guild. Which means Spector is alienating the one person he should be befriending.

He has insufficient data for the Silverstone arts, so he is gonna do some solo training to add data for the visor to go over. It's just another type of crafting.

The actual pistol is gone but Sal knows the ability that Chatfield has so he can build the ability to conjure the pistol and the legendary Sniper Rifle into his armor. So hopefully we will see a return to guns for Sal. Martial Arts is fine and all but the guns especially if he adds the sniper rifle are just too versatile to pass up.

For me it’s less about her and more about Sal. He’s getting better but he still feels like a passenger instead of the driver. It’s good to see him actively decide to focus his first morning on the SA, while I hope he doesn’t turn into a melee fighter I do believe it is the key to unlocking his confidence. He has been fairly successful at demon slaying but it has all been reactive. Even his crafting has been reactive. Choosing to study the fighting manual is the first proactive thing Sal has done in a long time.

How was Sal able to deduce Seth was able to make up to five clones? I couldn't see anything in his analysis that gave him that info.

the skill and essence multipliers are all divisible by 5 and hes maxed at essence calibration so 100% for each clone. but i think he meant 5 total 4 clones + main body

I’d have to go back and check professors name, but in a doom society meeting they were talking about kid that could clone himself and ethics of killing clones. So I suppose Sal placed Seth from that info.

He has access to it on research and he created an improved version of everything including both guns and visor. But because it was combined with a set from Fabi the essence programming is on hold as Fabi basically said he would be better crafter if he learnt the skill for himself. So sal signed up for the first course at quest academy.

Got a couple things that I was wondering about as I read this story for the 3rd time (absolutely love this series so much!). First is about the visor, will there be a scene of Sal restoring it or are we going to assume he has done that already? And second, I was wondering when one of his friends will tell him to do his hero portrait to help promote himself as a proficient guildmaster? Especially since he needs to show himself as strong enough for people not to kidnap or kill him. I assume it will most likely be Vanessa or Barry. I’m looking forward to Barry helping him with it!
