Chapters 29-33, Quest Academy Legions
Brian is going insane trying to write a blurb.
Hope you're all having a great week.

Hey Everyone,

Hope you all had a good weekend. I've been bludgeoning my head against a wall trying to write the blurb for Book 4. I need to get it over to the publisher and it is one of my least favourite things to do, making it sound all salesy and trying to hook the interest of readers. Pray for my sanity please.

Anyways, here are the next five chapters. I hope you all enjoy them. I will point out that if you despise cliffhangers, do not read Chapter 33. I looked at it and thought to myself. "They're going to kill me for this. Oh, well. Yolo."

Another important thing. If you've never read Fabi's analysis, or saw the Appraisal information on the Legendary-Grade tracker, then you didn't read Chapter 46 of Book 4. It's hidden amongst the posts, but the attachment is there with another chapter. Just thought I'd point it out again since I've seen a few readers confused.

Have a great week. I'm off to try this blurb for the 90th time.

Brian

I am sure your readers would have loved to give you blurb ideas to get the creative juices flowing but if your going to leave us on evil cliffhangers then no blurbs for you!!

Kiwi

Thank you for the chapters, just in time to start my shift at work. :-)

PrimordialJay

Thanks for the chapters! Haven't read them yet, but I finally downloaded a new pdf reader with dark mode and it makes reading so much better.

Kiwi

Okay so when you said cliffhanger I skipped to it….. are you secretly pushing for an Alias change?

Ray S.

Not that I've read chapter 33 yet, but I just can't not read it after that set up. I'd like to apologize in advance for what I hire a voodoo witch to curse you with tho.

Chris Bagby

Tks for the warning but I’m a glutton for punishment so I will read and deal with the outcome. You’re doing great keep it up! I do feel this may stretch into 20 books however.

Kiwi

Spoiler alert for those reading comments before chapters…. Are we just going to let Brian get away with just mentioning in passing that Blathnaid made an EPIC GRADE item like it was nothing!!! (Also if they worked together an item like that would help the Blathnaid and Roche’s out there).

Kiwi

I’m so happy for Blathnaid, she deserves that achievement she put in the work and got the results.

Pickled Rick

#Edit Suggestion (spoiler warning!!!) Chapter 31 "Your eye-patch flashed yellow every each it happened." "Every time" or "each time" dealers choice. Chapter 33 "When he was certain that he had covered anything, he poured even more essence in, until the Elixir Machine had reached it's capacity" I think you meant everything not anything here.

Kiwi

Every time I read something about the Scooby gang (cohort competition team) I think Divinity manipulate that outcome more than we know, now they’re together making a revolutionary machine? Yeah there’s more to Divinity than we’re lead to believe.

Raymond Mouton

Thanks for the chapters. I’m loving the story (all books) thus far. BTW, I found the chapter transition between 28 & 29 to be a little jarring, I think a transition sentence/phrase setting the scene or location, might help, or a trailing sentence on 28 indicating it was “time to look for Blathnaid”… my 2 cents. Love the story. Keep up the good work.

William Howe

Blurb: It’s party time! Sal could be the belle of the ball with his plans to start a guild, but first he needs to get through his parents. The few months away at school have changed him. The first time you start dealing with your parents as an adult can be tough. But Sal has a way of *making things* better.

Greg Cottingham

As always, a treat to read. I may even forgive you for leaving us dangling.

Don

I knew the cliff was coming but still went off it at 100 miles per hour. Great chapters but this next week is going to be torture.

Bryan Swanson

Thanks for the creating such a wonderful series! Re-reading book 1 and wondered if the martial artist during the pre-competition dungeon takedown is a silverston?

William Allison

Okay…please don’t mess around… you are releasing the next chapter today! Right???

BrianJNordon

Man, you can't do this to me. I'd be killed if I did a side story, because everyone would want them for the other characters

Ron Blondeau

Thanks for the epic cliffhanger Brian! This just keeps getting better and better.

Pickled Rick

Just read your cliffhanger and you are one SOB for doing that. Based on the build up I am expecting many expletives from Upgrade, a host of stunned silences and Divinity ringing Sal up to tell him how he broke everything, AGAIN in next week's chapters. And don't even think about pulling a sicky!

James jones

The cliffhanger Jesus well done always a pleasure

Michael Victorine

This was such a heart warming set of chapters. I love seeing Anthony's confidence get bolstered.

Aaron Cudd

You were right and now I can't wait for the next chapters. Thank you for the great work you always put out. 😄

Pickled Rick

I feel like it's missing a tease about the fact that his parents are not some sweet little auctioneers but retired lethal weapons with a past

Kiwi

Maybe not ever character……. Just Sophia and Prestige growing up haha 😉

Max

Chapter 29 I think Sal just failed his administration class with the negotiation he did in this chapter. Jokes aside - I have a suggestion for page two. When they are talking about a price, Blathnaid doesn't give him a number but instead asks Sal to name a price. You usually use this negotiation tactic when you know precisely what you are worth or if you have no idea at all. If the other party overpays, you accept it. But if they want to cut you short, you can indicate that you have different expectations. Therefore, Blathnaid should start the negotiation with 2'500 Q-Cred or, if she is unsure about the material price, go even up to 3'000. Sal can then counter with his proposal. This would show that Blathnaid learned something form Upgrade about negotiations.

Max

Can anybody explain why Fabi has so much essence available? If I remember correctly, Fabi opened 70 gates. Did I miss something? Also, Upgrade needed a core for crafting in the first book. I know Fabi is only upgrading materials and not equipment, but it still seems excessive how much Fabi can do. Is it just the grade of her weave that makes her essence so much more powerful than that of anybody else?

Pickled Rick

29 to 30 was a little similar. He doesn't even talk to Royce on screen he just tells Fabi in Chpt.30 that he is in for 8% of the profits.

Phillyboy

Yeah, I should’ve read that last chapter.

Kiwi

Yeah I’m glad he’s getting some airtime and him and Fabi taking off will be awesome for his confidence. And he did a dungeon on his own, yeah he may get to Saviour soon along with Jack.

Tim Walloch

Damn, those were some good crafting chapters! Really some your best chapters. Oh, and major boo on the cliffhanger! You could've put the appraisal sheet at the end.

Pickled Rick

Getting Sal to put his number in first was smart from Blath at her negotiation level. If Blath has given a number first she would either undervalue herself making it easy on Sal to lowball her. If she comes in too high she then needs to defend her skillset to support her bid which Blath doesn't have the experience or confidence to do yet.

Max

Hi Brian, Thanks for the chapters. I hope you know what you are doing with the new power levels you introduced since the semester break because you are playing a dangerous game right now. I know I don't have the complete picture yet, but at the moment, at least, it feels like the power levels established in the first 3-4 books became meaningless. Most people are redundant with the new developments we have now. Why would you need any of the heroes below rank 500 if you can have Jackal. And it only took Sal 2 weeks to source and build it. Why would you go into a dungeon to source Elixer materials if Sal can create unlimited amounts? Why study healing if Sal can just create equipment and pump you full of healing potions? I know I sound negative with that, but I really like the story and don't want to see it become a meaningless power fantasy like so many other works.

Severin Hans

Who wants to bet that Fabis visor isn't programed to highlight a different colour for mythic grade. Legendary components that are then refined by myth crafter essence when put together? No way that thing isn't mythic

Max

Thanks for pointing that out. I never saw that part of the story because page three ended with so much space empty. I never saw that it continued on page 4 with a table that takes the whole page.

Kiwi

What I love most about all these chapters this week is that we got to see more of the components being crafted from the viles, to vats, to the enclosures. We got to read it all.

Pickled Rick

Considering everything that would still need fixing and the speed Sal is going through school it will take 12 books just to get through Year 1. (Maybe 8 not 100% sure if Quest Academy has semesters or trimesters as the casual talk last week of taking certain classes next Semester makes me feel like its all under Year 1 instead of talks about Y2 S1)

Max

Yes, like I mentioned. You do that if you know what you are worth or, in this case, if you have no idea. But because she mentioned she practiced with Upgrade, I believe she should have an idea of what her work is worth. Sal is also her friend, and she could practice negotiations with him without fearing punishment for a too low estimation.

Morten Bork

No problem. My patience will die a horrible death . 5 chapters on Monday. You must understand I binged the audiobooks on audible. And then saw the Patreon... Binged book 4 and then these chapter. And my brain is screaming for more. I have a credit subscription on audible. I will get book four(when it's out), and restart the series. Because I just can't wait for new chapter. I hope you never stop.

Cedric 'Driky' Chatelain

Potential spoiler ahead: Honestly the cliffhanger could have been worse. We at least have a color flash xD It’s nice to see the speed change that started with the previous book. More complex stuff gets crafter a lot faster. It really feels like there is a development and like the utopian vision of future is somewhat achievable. Good luck with the evil blurb.

Natox Biohazard

Very abrupt transition to blathnid from fabi with no warning chap 28 to 29

C

You dirty dog. That cliff is a killer. I'm begging—just one more. Please don't leave me here!

William Howe

Didn’t want to spoil the surprise. I figure ‘dealing with your parents as an adult’ could do the heavy lifting without giving away the plot.

Chris Bagby

Ok that was quite a cliffhanger! I’m all ready for next week! I do love the anticipation! Great job love were your going.

Iron Akela

Very nice chapters! I’d kinda suspected Sal would unknot Anthony’s and Jack’s weaves during this build but I get why he didn’t :o) Wonder if Blathnaid is ready for her next ‘Argento Treatment’ :oD

Chris Bagby

Oh I’m fine with however far you want to go! I’m still trapped! I’m loving the journey! I like how you show the build! It appeals to my desire to create! Love it!

Marco

AMAZING! i love these chapters. you can really feel things starting to speed up. and your cliffhanger game is on point. it is brutal. Now i am going to be thinking about it for the rest of the week. Also, i am stuck thinking about the guild limit. I can't wait to see the roaster once its all offical. P.S. Blurb idea: Read it, you won't regret it.

Thomas Todd

It turns out that the yellow flash was just the sun in her eyes and the Elixir Machine is only Common grade

Frilas

I’m struggling to describe why I’m so disappointed with these chapters, but I’ll try. I might check next week’s batch, hoping for something explosive, but I doubt it. It’ll likely end as a Mythic grade item, given it’s made of Legendary components, or evolve toward Celestial/Divine through something like Rooted with Figment Essence upgrading components when the essence storage grows. I was happy last week when Jackal’s description was confirmed to match book 4, not the scrap metal drone version and book 5 will be adjusted to that. I was excited to read again, But while the Mythical Blight Jackal shows the experience from crafting, the elixir machine feels like a disaster waiting to happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if it blows up and kills everyone in the tower. (not joking here) They used experimental runes, mostly Legendary components with built-in abilities, and reduced three skills to one of unknown origin—not even the refine skill Sal worked on in chapter 13 which was maxed at grade 12. He checked synchro rates but skipped verifying the copied skill, which seems backward. Luckily, he didn’t use Perfect with refine, though he used it later so the machine has the skill and will later refines and perfects every elixir it makes. I'm guessing, He likely added Genesis and Alchemize at the end, as usual, but claiming it was ready before the final step makes no sense. The skills should’ve been applied to the whole machine, not just specific areas, removing the reason it was split into three separate zones for. If the glove is Sal’s pinnacle of design, the machine is the opposite. The blueprint was discarded, no thought went into material attributes, and they just threw in high-grade materials, upgraded to Legendary by someone who can alter anything with essence, and added random elements outside the blueprint. It’s all "proof of concept" chaos, assuming more equals better. I’ve been annoyed in the past about Sal being unable to fail at crafting, but this time I’ll say it outright—this should never be allowed to succeed. And upgrade definitely won’t compliment him for YOLO-ing a craft with materials worth millions, if not billions. And finally, a small caveat—how can Fabi’s visor show Legendary without being supercharged by Andrey all of a sudden?

Pickled Rick

Once this machine is working as intended more people will have the essence required to undergo a Sal treatment

Meghan B

I loved these! Its great to have the group craft together (so much fun)! Poor Anthony and his speed run. I feel for him. Hopefully he's not as traumatized as Sal was. And that cliffhanger. Man. I wanna know!

C

Kinda thinking the same like her visor can only read up to legendary.

nin10do

The crafting of the elixir machine although had changed due to a mistake of the ratio so long as all the pieces fitted together and improved quality and then within spec there wouldn't be an issue. The reason that's missing that could be that before the cliffhanger at the end a couple of sentences at the end of the chapter. Sal could have scanned the elixir machine using the myth skill and ran scans to see whether it was a successful build and running some stress testing in the background and the group departing the room discussing the group project. The reason for this to happen at the end was because in an unfinished assembly myth rafter wouldn't be able to get a acceptable scan on the build viability.

RnR_ RnR

Damn that's was good! But that cliffhanger was brutal. Already excited for the next piece

Chris Hoopes

These are some really really good chapters. Thanks again.

Charles Gillentine

I dont think I've ever gone from fulfilled to withdrawal so fast.

Perry Morningstar

Sanity is overrated! I will say (feel free not to read my unsolicited advice) my dad told me a long time ago that the best thing to do to deal with a block is step back, have a nice dinner sleep on it and start fresh in the morning.

Sango

cliffhanger indeed!!! I can't wait for the the book 4 to be published so I can read it again without downloading each chapter and just enjoy the flow .. lol

Lisa Johnson

So excited can’t wait to read more!!!

Naotsugu97

Forthright blurb suggestion “read this shit now, dammit!” Passive aggressive blurb suggestion “Oh, it’s fine. I don’t need readers” Sales and marketing blurb suggestion “read this book to generate wealth, attract supermodels, and fulfill all your naughty fantasies!” Also, TFTC! 😉

Tikiza

Tftc Damn it and now we have to wait for the next chapters. These were great! Nice Cliffhanger at the end

Sango

capacitor- what chapter it is again? i forgot what it does l, I have an idea but I want to read the full definition of it.

Rainer

Only legendary? Not mythic? Damn.

Kiwi

I don’t think any of the materials were of mythic grade

Rainer

No, but they were all legendary. And he's turned materials that were lower than legendary into mythic.

Kiwi

Book 4 chapter 88 has The Blight Jackle Analysis

BaguaBrady

I really appreciate these chapters, particularly how they focus in on a single task and also bring together a lot of characters. I love that Sal had fun with it, because it was great to read

Kiwi

He didn’t upgrade the materials though, Fabi did and she may be capped at Legendary.

David

Fabi is the new MC.... but Figment is so OP. Come on Sal, show 'em what you can do.

LadyLark

That is always a pain when that happens but wasn’t this already answered. It was stated earlier that Sal is pretty powerful. In fact these recent chapters it comes up. It also states that he can’t do everything. All these people are powerful and can do a lot but there are so many people and so many monsters that they need everyone working together. Not just 1 or 2.

Ray S.

Yeah. I wonder if figment is going to need to be scaled back some. Or at least take more essence.

David

She basically replaces what's special about Sal plus the essence programming. Sal's strength is the skill weaves. I hope he starts to use his power (skill master) to it fullest capabilities. That's his "power". Maybe his skill mapping will uncover the break through he needs. His mom is making him scared to use his power imo.

Sam

That thought crossed my mind too after I learned about the silverson guild

Sam

I'm just glad he hooked in Alex instead of ruining him.

Nozzy

Anyone else feeling Sal is getting replaced? Don’t get me wrong I like Fabi as a character but her ability seems to outstrip Sals. Sals was great at one thing and was learning to cover his weakness with learning to fight. Now what’s made Sal great isn’t so great anymore since he even admitted mythcrafter is lesser than Figment. I really don’t want Sal to end up being just a figurehead of the guild, being a crafting\warrior combo sounded cool but seems he’s getting overshadowed. Or am I reading this wrong and only one feeling this way?

Joseph Thibodeau

Destiny's future sight showed Sal making 2 tiers above mythic stuff. Celestial grade or something like that. I think that Mythcrafter is eventually going to upgrade to whatever comes next and then upgrade again later on. Honestly, Sal might eventually end up being some god tier being that's specialized in crafting. Kind of a hybrid of Hephaestus and Aries or something but with more of a Promethius kind of personality.

Robert Pitchure

I look at it as a progression. Fabi was amazing before sal. And then he came along and made her something more entirely. The blight jackal isent sals greatest masterpiece to date it's the weave he made for fabi. A weave so powerful it broke the machine and required the entire hunter gala to fruition. Sal has so much further to go. And the meme Gos this isent even his final form.

Pickled Rick

Firstly Fabi has a stronger weave (Rank 45) currently which Sal deliberately made as strong as possible so she could grow into it and she is limited to Legendary Grade in this build even with 300 Gates. Sal is making Mythic with his Rank 25 weave and can see how to upgrade all of Fabi's constructions. Sal also has a masterclass (with Sarge if memory serves) to learn how to upgrade his weave to the next rank so he can start building above Mythic soon enough. You also have to understand Fabi's ability specifically allows her to construct something at a high grade but she can't make a legendary blueprint it would be beyond her and she needs that spec to know how to make the legendary stuff right now. She also can't add specific abilities to her finish product while Sal can just make the perfect weave of an ability then add it to his final products.

Pickled Rick

she is only good specifically at the construction side. It would still take her a long time if even possible for her to make the blueprint for the machine they just built. Sal also added specific ability weaves which without the machine wouldn't even work. If they were making an F1 car all she did was make the parts with precision accuracy. She wouldn't know what pieces to build, where to put every piece or how to individually tune each piece to get a championship winning car without Sal's skills.

Pickled Rick

Making it Mythic is Myth's job. The number of skills a component has can determine its grade so if every piece was Myth grade then the finished product would be above that which Sal is not able of making yet. Fabi's gear flashing yellow at the end just means the finished article is at least Legendary grade but Sal is the only person able to appraise above Legendary and I don't think Fabi's appraiser is permanently linked to Sal's to get that Mythic appraisal.

Rainer

That's fair. Didn't think about the fact that he's the only one capable of appraising mythic grade.

Andrew Tobin

Remember, she’s a third year, Sal said in these chapters she has more power than him. For now. He still has gates and stuff to go. Plus, superman only gets to be in one place at a time.

Andrew Tobin

Having completely ignored your warning I now boo thee for thy cliffhanger! Booooo!

Max

I see your point, but I think there is powerful and there is OP. In book 3 it was a major achievement that Sal killed a hulker. Now that is just a side note. Rare materials were limited but now they can be synthesized from cheap and available material. Sal had not enough essence to power his weave but now he can have 240 gates. These were all limitations and restrictions that were established in the first books that are now obsolete. I’m not saying that it is per se bad, but I believe it is dangerous for the story if it is not handled carefully.

Barbara Collier

That was mean...you owe us a chapter, now!!!! Oh Authorlord would you please grace us with another chapter today.

David

That's true. All has a lot of room to grow and he surely will

Pickled Rick

I think your forgetting a lot of the advances that have already been made and demonstrated in previous chapters. Firstly this was all made from Blueprints that had to be redone after his epiphany of adding skills weaves and confirmed by Divinity to work and make it stronger. The whole premise of the build is a production line and if you have read any other stories with Alchemy in it you know that an Alchemist needs to master multiple steps in order to produce the final concoction, this machine keeps those steps and incorporates an ability to accelerate or improve each step along the way. It's no different to how Mythcrafter excels at making Mythic grade Blueprints while Fabricate is better suited for making the Blueprinted components from those Blueprints. Secondly, the runes are experimental but they are mostly on replaceable parts and Jack is a person of interest with the guilds, as mentioned in Book 4, because his ability with runes is already outpacing the current understanding in the areas of Runesmithing he has been taught so far.

Pickled Rick

Yeah just wait until everyone has stupidly potent coffee that has the unintended side effect of not letting the people that drink it sleep for 3 days then they just collapse from mental exhaustion and Sal has to go back and fix the machine to make it less potent to allow for natural sleep. Maybe add in coding; Epic Coffee stay awake for 12 hours beyond normal. Legendary Coffee 24 hours, Mythic Coffee 48 hours *Warning will have unintended side effects if consumed repeatedly without real sleep.😂

Ron Blondeau

At the moment, Sal seems to be generating more concepts/ ideas then anyone else in his sphere. Fabi just has more power.

5haun

Thanks for the chapters Brian! Excited to see Fabi and Blathnaid connect. Their skills really are similar, though it’s now evident that Fabi’s skill is absolutely broken lol. It reminds me, now, a little bit of Atom Eve’s power from Invincible. It really is a Crafter/Engineer’s Skill. I’m now viewing Blathnaid’s Skill as as Atom Eve-lite - She needs the materials to be there, but then as long as she understands the build she can make whatever. That in itself is pretty broken too. Love these Crafter Abilities. Anthony’s Skill continues to be really cool to me. Is he going to be able to Overcharge Mythic gear to the next level? Can’t wait for the next batch of chapters.

Frilas

My comment turned more aggressive than I intended, but when it comes to the crafting stuff, it’s still accurate. One thing that I did overlook was that the visor from Fabi says nothing since the finished craft is a machine and not an item, and with that, like AW, it has no item grade as it is made up of separate parts. The crafting itself is riddled with issues, starting with the materials for the mythic glove. He had to edit the blueprint when the core plates were made out of different cores, or the craft would not have been possible. Meanwhile, here, before anything else, Sal replaces random materials from the blueprint with what he has on hand. From that moment on, the blueprint is useless. Then it comes to the part where he first tells Fabi her ability lets her turn "water into wine," changing materials freely with essence. The different size of the components is not an issue since they are uniformly the same scale, but that is all she has shown to be controlling. By showing that she didn’t even notice she created legendary components, it means she had no actual idea what the properties of the components are. Just because she used obsidian as a material doesn’t mean that the component she made turns out to actually contain obsidian, as that is her ability. Just this part is already using a false blueprint and not checking the actual components being used. This is followed by Sal infusing a refine skill that is, firstly, a new skill he just created and not the refine skill from the skill orb. It also means that the changes he made to the blueprint, inspired by Hanna’s glove, are only done for the refine skill and not for the alchemize and genesis skills, which are added through Mythcrafter in the end like normal. That means he needs somebody with the skill to use the machine and/or add a dungeon core to the machine to give it the will to use the refine skill (added after the linking we got together with alchemize and genesis in the end as inherent skills). This is contradictory to him getting Alex and Royce on board because he would have needed to add the skills from those two in the same way he added refine to the machine to achieve the result of letting them utilize their skills in a modified way, like Hanna’s glove. Putting aside the fact that there is currently no programming since it is a machine and not an item (which can be added later), the whole thing is filled to the brim with the essence of at least six different skills. We’ve seen with the wooden fort in Book 2 what kind of immense effect that can have on the final craft. While this creates a situation where the machine can upgrade itself by using one or multiple essences like Figment, Mythcrafter, Skillmaster, or Perfect, once it has more essence storage. it completely undermines everything established about crafting in the last four books. Worst of all, it directly contradicts his mythic glove, which was all about him being enlightened on the importance of always knowing exactly what you are doing.

Robert Crews

Chapters great I love that the group is back together and interacting their powers working on a project building friendships my question is how do they get it to the guild hall or the shops? It seems big.

DOCORK

Point to that one. I would love to enjoy the flow as well. However, I am not patient enough to wait fot the next great chapter let the alone the whole book!. TFTC

Sango

yes I don't mind having to read the new chapters for book 5 once a week ,but I wish and hope that Brian will have mercy to give us more once a week vs twice a week?... I know I know ik greedy lol

Sango

yeah well it make sense we want, or I want for only Sal to be able to produce/create Mythic + equipments lol

DasGoat622

My math isn’t good but how to give out 124% of something 25+16+8/9+ 60+15 is 124/5. Or is it meant to say the refiner and crafting department cut are coming out of the 60 leaving Sal with 25/27%?

DasGoat622

Also didn’t he negotiate Alex down to 8%? Or are the 3 skilled laborers accounting for 25% and and the crafting departments 15 make it 40. This paragraph is very confusing

DasGoat622

I think his dad can now that Sal touched up his weave. But the point still remains that Fabi can’t.

Adam Roche

Simple it’s 60% for the guild, 8% for Royce, 8% for Alex, 8% for refiner who is now Sal, 1% for Fabi and 15% for Quest … all equals 100%

Adam Roche

Brian, tell me as a fellow Irishman… Ireland or France?… Where in Ireland are you from? With some of your naming choices, I was guessing Galway or Kerry?

Sam

Didn't Barry and sal have that discussion already? Build it at the academy and contract it to the guild

Sam

Five chapters once a week is equivalent to the once a day chapters that the prolific authors post. He needs time to live his life too

Sam

Gallant uses the skills too while fighting prowlers on the third floor of the tower

DasGoat622

Yeah I think I got there eventually but that paragraph is just clunky as hell. It gets explained better in the next chapter.

BrianJNordon

Sorry, it made sense in my head. I'll have to clean that up in edits. Adam is right. 25% allocation between Royce, Alex and Refiner with Fabi taking the 1% difference. 15% for Crafting Department and 60% for the Guild.

BrianJNordon

Pickled Rick, it might be because I've just surfaced from edits for Book 4, but I think Sal is at Grade 19 for Mythcrafter with a cap of 30, and Fabi is at 39 with a cap of 50. Also, it's Coach and not Sarge, but that is a pretty cool name :)

Pickled Rick

As Sal didn't use a refiner does that mean he has freed up 8% for someone else or does he need someone in each skill position permanently for some reason? My understanding was he was paying these people royalties because he is essentially using a perfected version of their skill weave to infuse the machine to make it work.

Pickled Rick

Thanks for the correction I don't know exactly where I got my numbers from they just felt right in my head for some reason and I am not aware of a wiki for these weaves I can look up. And Coach makes way more sense considering how he evolves skills weaves, maybe Sarge can be a cool Controller character for a guild who is able to link minds with people to communicate and issue covert orders over long distances in the future. Its a strong authoratative hero name so it feels like he would be quite abrasive to others and either get on really well with Chatfield or someone who is ironically a lot like Chatfield which causes them to butt heads a lot. Interesting coincidence how both my wrong guesses where both 5 levels below the cap but 6 above the actual level means that while my numbers where wrong it doesn't really diminish the level difference I was misremembering.

Chris Bagby

Are you really going to hold back the next Chapter? Be a good guy and don’t keep us waiting! Don’t be like Patrick R. lol! Just joking!

Dawn Zeleznik

Fabi still has plenty of problems though. Even with blueprints she made everything 3 times the size it should have been, or maybe a little larger.

Frilas

Fabi is not limited by grades; there is only missing information about how to achieve the creation of above-legendary for her. Sal is limited to mythic because that is one of the drawbacks of the collective crafting skills of Legendary/Mythcrafter. While Sal can create a weave to fit the ability needed, Fabi can create a material for her craft that provides it, which covers the step to go from legendary to mythic crafting. She has been shown to be far above Sal when it comes to most crafting-related stuff even before having a skill, while her skill removes the only thing she was lacking, which is instantaneous crafting. Not to forget that Mythcrafter's blueprint function is the one thing Sal never follows during the crafting.

Jim Swift

Just curious about Kindle Unlimited, where, I believe, you get royalties based on the number of pages read. I like to read books many times and have read books 1-3 three times so far, but with many more to come, I expect. So I am guessing that you would get more royalties if I read your books using Kindle Unlimited than if I bought the ebook from regular Kindle? But I will likely end up getting the print books anyway. Thanks so much for the many hours of great reading.

I think what we're seeing is the answer to Sal's immortal Therapists point that he can't do it all and won't single-handedly save the world. Sal is a force multiplier. What would have been impossible for anyone else, and taken him weeks to do alone, took a few hours for the group and will probably create something that could fundamentally change things. Imagine what's going to happen when Sal has his Guild going and he has a few teams with the best possible equipment, rewoven powers to the peak each individual can handle and a team of crafters working with nearly unlimited resources and Skill Master'ed crafting powers? It's going to snowball. He's taking who he can get now, but people are going to be beating down his door in a couple of years. Their Guild is going to rocket up the ranks. They'll be a cap of how fast just because of entrenched power structures, but politics more the ability will slow him down. His teams will be monsters. between his powers and Fabi's how quick do you think they can rebuild reclaimed zones? Sal is exactly what Upgrade called him, "Maestro." He's the conductor of the orchestra. Honestly the weirdest part is everyone's obsession with getting him to fight more. Sure, he should learn how to handle himself, but he is way, way to valuable to be anywhere near physical danger for the most part. Even Mythcrafter isn't as important as Skill Master. I really think the story, and Sal should focus more on Skill Master than Mythcrafter. Crafting is cool and all, but Skill Master is such a force multiplier it's strange to me how it's always on the back burner.

Off the immediate goings on but, I just remembered something. Petro was talking to Villa at the Gala, is that going to turn into something?

Dumb question, why doesn’t perfect help with EssPro?

Kiwi

Thank you for the chappies! Friendly possible edits: (I could be wrong since there's a cultural variance in English language usage and I am by no means an expert) Chapter 31: (only chapter in which I noticed anything) Quote: No. It was overkill, but that's what he had to hand and it was easier to use it than not.
what he had to hand ==> what he had at hand (?) Quote: "Why would I need a bottling station? I'm pretty sure that it'll be a one at a time sort of process."
a one at a time ==> a one-at-a-time (?) Quote: Your eye-patch flashed yellow every each it happened. Anthony told me what it meant."
every each ==> each time

I have a few possible answers: 1) Perfect is more of an internal body correction weave while Essence Programming is more of a knowledge based endeavor? 2) he doesn't know what he doesn't know, or doesn't know enough in order to trigger his weaves (Perfect/Skill Master/Mythcrafter) autocorrect functions? - This is kinda brought up in book 4 when he tries to create a Super Suit/uniform but the EssPro was all messed up because Mythcrafter was just copying and pasting the "best" codes without an overarching structure/proper order of operations??? Anyway, those are my 2 best guesses. I could be wrong.

Though I had it backwards. It is guild property that is contracted to the academy workshop.

It took me entirely too long to realize that it was Arkwright with the dungeon heart shard. I kept trying to figure out what the purple blob was.

Kiwi

hahaha it looks different to what was in my head too

It looks amazing, but AW is just completely different than I imagined. Where is the glass front? "The wall of glass that would show each and every component at work." The hovering dungeon core being outside of AW's enclosure bothers me slightly, and having another back view on Sal to highlight Fabi kind of bothers me. Fabi looks great, but I miss the Sal from the covers of Book 1 and 2. Doesn't even look like the same person anymore. :/

Kiwi

remeber his body has toned up and his hair is diffrent thanks to perfect

Appreciate the concern on this, Jim. I do get more from Kindle Unlimited, but honestly, I'd prefer you to read the book in whatever medium works best for you. You're earning me far more as a Patron than as a standard reader through Amazon, so you don't need to be concerned. :) And no pressure if you can't commit to Patreon long-term, the support you've given so far is wonderful!

Jim Swift

Many thanks, Brian. Guess I'll be here for a while. Let's see, the Argenta Plaza Divinity showed Sal was 60 years away. So, 3 books to cover Sal's first year suggests you are planning 180 more books. Yes, that will take a while.

So I just wanted to say that I love the chapters that are more than just Sal only. Sal is a phenomenal character but when you put him with others especially this group the story just shines just that much brighter. Thank you.

Chapter 31: Blathnaid looked at her strangely. "But you did... like twice. Your eye-patch flashed yellow every each it happened - Every each it happened ....think "time" is missing and either each or every? Chapter 32: Legendary-Grade components was going to make things so much - "was" should be were?
