Hey Everyone,

Sorry for the delay on these today. I warned people on Discord and in a comment here, but I knew I was going to be late with the upload. I only had 2 chapters ready to go yesterday, and tried to knuckle down to get more today. We've got 4 in total for the upload, but I'm happy with them.

I experimented with time skipping, so let me know how it lands, and if it doesn't please do explain how you think it could be done more seamlessly. With the pacing cadence, I need to keep everything moving along... and it can be problematic because everyone is hyperfocused on different aspects of the story.

Some will want me to deep dive into Sal as a teaching assistant, while others are hoping for him to do more Dungeons. Some are pointing at his timetable and asking me to go back and add more classes. I need to find a balance that works for the story, and keeps as many people as possible happy. We need to move forward. :)

There were a few people asking about the Uniform requirements stated by Jez in Book 5 and highlighted in Book 6. These are being edited for the final version for Amazon. Epic Grade will now be enough for Tier 2 within the Guild Rankings, maybe even higher. This will hopefully maintain the gravitas of Legendary and Mythic.

Okay, that's it I think. Hope you enjoy the chapters, let me know your thoughts. :)

Has it ever been explained why there is a clear delineation of combat roles in the setting? I understand how it could be beneficial in ad hock groups so you can respond to an immediate crisis. But I would have thought the academy would be the place to explore the application of their abilities, rather than pigeon-holing them. Throughout the books we constantly see instances where members of the team would be better suited in a different role. Just wondering why, in a world without game balance to consider, they insist on limiting themselves this way? Especially when personal power is valued so highly.

The books have also discussed some of the ickyer eugenics approaches other groups have taken in order to foster stronger powers, but we don't really hear how they've been effected in the Hunter Bureau. When might makes right so blatantly, some people must use that position to expand their relationship pool. I understand it not something the series focuses on, but Sal has to amazing abilities and is making a name for himself, I would have assumed the guilds and factions would be trying multiple avenues of securing them for themselves. Even if they just want to stud him out. With a strong heritability factor I would expect familial dynasties like the Silverson's to be emerging everywhere trying to grab and maintain power like nouveau nobles. Yes I know the changes have all occurred within one lifetime, but the apocalypse tends to force everyone to be pragmatic out of desperation, so they'd latch on to powerful people and things that work. Not a lot of people gain significant power and retain all their principles.

Can I ask another random question? Whatever did happen to the situation with bastion infiltrating the controllers and healers? Like I know the doom society wanted to listen in and spy on them in Alastair’s class … but did they stop them all? I feel like that plot never got resolution.

It'd be fun to go even wackier with the barrier designs. Like a barrier that sucks demons into a black hole. I think a black hole would be out of place in this story/universe, but I'm just providing an example of how it'd be fun to Sal submit even more "out there" barrier designs.

Pickled Rick

I agree on that, the whole Bastion plot points seems to have been put on a major back burner since Book 4 and almost feels like any mention of them will come completely out of left field now

In Saviors chapter 13 Research, Sal mentions Surge and that "it allows someone to surpass their own limits for a short period of time." In Chapter 19 this week it says it greatly increases the attack speed of the user, and Sal calls it new.

Loved the chapters! A Dr Bobby and Dragoon reference! Yay! I really feel like Sal is starting to understand how to prioritize which is great and very age appropriate. I think Divinity has always been Sal’s ‘person’ but things got off track. Loved that they are hanging out again and finding some balance. I can’t believe Sal didn’t give out presents. It would be really funny if it was Barry’s birthday or something and Sal could play up what a good friend he is lol I would like to know why Rochelle is regarded by the Bastion families. It’s always been in the back of my mind.

Can't believe it took me 4 days to read the chapters 😅 The time skip was a welcome surprise. When I first read there was a time skip I thought it would be a longer skip, but it works out good. I always had a thought that Sal kept making way too many deals and taking on projects. It just seemed like some deals never made any progress. Like the Alex deal too long to get realized. Also, is Sal still doing inspections for Villa's guild? It just seems like Sal has a very stacked to-do list and just keeps adding to it. The time skips could help out on these lesser items.

First of all, not sure if this is getting posted. Patreon is being funky on my iPad so apologies if it’s there twice. Been devouring the chapters so fast, I might need to do a second read through to get through withdrawals. I’m a bit behind the latest chapters and maybe this is a spoiler question for myself which I don’t mind but does Sal ever start actually creating stuff for himself? I mean yes he has jackal and arsenal but so does upgrade. And I loveeeee upgrade but does Sal ever end up with anything special/unique or does he outfit everyone with mythical stuff too? It’s a little frustrating to see him create something special and then either give it away or build something equal for someone else. Maybe my OP MC mindset but I’d love for him to have something that is insanely special that is just his.

I thought the beauty of Sal's character is that he is "(the) rising tide (that) lifts all boats". He could be an OP MC, but he's too busy trying to make things better for everyone else.

I liked the timeskip chapter, it Helps with the passing so much.

Personally I love the rehabilitating Erika arc - this series is a positive one showing the value of seeing potential in people and making friends rather than trying to make everyone into an enemy - we have enough cultivation style progression fantasies where every slightly negative person has to become an antagonist and enemy and this series is a breath of fresh air in that space. Long live the rehabilitation and empathy storylines over promoting retribution and hatred/enmity as natural progressions to any conflict between people. We have Demons as enemies - bastion too - we don’t need to create more division amongst Heros. Go Brian!

I have a non chapter related question about this series. I don’t understand the concept of gates. If all demons have a core, does this mean that every human also has a single core? Or is split into the gates that are referred throughout the series? Do demons have gates?

Jack

Small nit. You didn't say who won between Divinity and Sal very close to the actual sparring. Get hints later, then find out for certain, but it would have worked better for me if I found out right after, since there wasn't a payoff to withholding it. Still loving it.

Keara Pringle

Someone might have already mentioned this but I'm rereading and noticed in chapter 20 that Vanessa doesn't know about Athena but didn't he introduce the guild to it during the guild meeting? And wasn't upgrade setting up a schedule for the guild members to use athena. I thought they were supposed to start using it a day or 2 after the meeting?

TwoMoreYears

I enjoyed the time skipping mechanic and I think this is a great use of it. Loving the story, especially the progression of the guild, but I do think there's value in establishing how things are moving and how time is passing in this way. Looking forward to the future.
