I don't even want to think about how hard an episode like this was to make. We basically got all the action scenes that would be in a full length movie, in one episode.

I agree that Maki's mom taking out Naoya was out of revenge and finally seeing the Zenin destroyed, but I also think she deep down cared for them due to earlier scenes in which she tried to stop her from going to where her father was and later Maki asking why she told her to come back and she was happy in the end because this lifestyle she also probably hated but didn't do anything about is over. She is still a terrible mother though.

This episode is very hype and amazing, but I think its also quick to forget that the implications here are pretty... dark. Please correct if I'm wrong, but considering its stated that she killed every single member of the clan, that means she didn't just kill the combatants. Servants, other workers and even children, we'll have to assume that none of them were excluded from the "destroy everything" mindset.
