Since Connor asked -- there's multiple reasons why women like yaoi but for me, personally, more often than not you have a female author writing for a female audience. So much hentai written for men show women and sex in a way that makes me feel insecure, uncomfortable, or is just plain unrelatable. With yaoi there's more often a decent balance of romance and smut, the bodies are more often more anatomically accurate (even if unrealistically chiselled), and there's more often cute or sassy moments between the lovers that make the whole experience more enjoyable for me. I watched a documentary once where Japanese yaoi fans said watching yaoi made them feel less guilty because it was men and not women having sexual desires -- it's sad to think about but that makes sense imo. Also, as a woman, I like yuri but usually only when it's done by an author that seems to actually know how lesbians interact and what kinds of body types are attractive instead of two women having sex for a male reader's enjoyment. It's obvious when yuri was done for male vs female enjoyment, at least it's obvious to me

I will try to explain in the simplest way possible. A girl finds guys hot, 2 guys with 2 different appealing characteristics and designs = really hot. A guy finds girls hot, 2 girls with 2 different appealing characteristics and designs = really hot. Also, I have never seen someone watch porn being like ''OH YES IM RELATING TO THIS SO HARD RIGHT NOW'' so I don't think relating to something is a factor.
