I'm still on episode 2, but I figured I'd comment in case this helps (I've never played this). I'd say keep in mind chess pieces and rooms you found them in. Chess pieces on a board are associated with letters at the start and as you play. Could be a message. Maybe you're well past that or it isn't helpful!

Still pretty sure most of the chess pieces are just wordplay or clever jokes, e.g. the two little pawns are bunked up together.
