Building bridges isn't always a good idea - I've just created one extending northwards and reached land where the giant (not just pet-sized) leaping spiders/slingers roam and one of them targetted me. So I decided to run back across the bridge but it followed me all the way home, and so now I can hear it scurrying somewhere around my place of safety ready to spring out at me when least expected. The distance they jump makes these critters nightmare-ish.
