Some Clarifications and Apologies! (Patreon)

Hello everyone, it is Alfabus.

I got some concerns lifted towards me on Twitter just recently about Patreon which I found to be legitimate, and I need to speak clearly to you about.


The reason I have not released anything for a long time is inexcusable.

I could tell you the reasons why; real life, current project being too hefty, crashing - but in one way or another you can with all right fully discredit them.


This is currently the closest thing to a job I have and you guys are making it possible, so I don't want to short-change you. If you feel like I am taking too much time in doing what I am doing, like I am not fulfilling my part of the bargain, you should remove your pledge and contact me here and I can try setting you up with a refund somehow.


Unfortunately, I just cannot go any faster.

The only way for me to invest in more speed would be to hire another editor, but I just can't afford paying the salaries such a person would deserve.


I do try to spend every day editing to certain extents, sometimes more.

However, with my current project I am realizing more and more that I have shot myself in the foot. What I am working on is the first TTS Special, starring Russ and the entire Inquisition in the Warp. The reason for it taking so long to edit isn't really because it is long, but rather because there is a LOT happening and there are a LOT of characters (the entire Inquisition is a lot of characters who would've figured), and manually keyframing each characters movement is what takes all this time.

However, in the end, this is just an excuse.


If you consider your pledges 'investments' rather than 'donations', I would recommend you remove your pledge.

Investments implies that you NEED to get your moneys worth in content per month or otherwise I've scammed you - and with my speed, it is impossible for me to be anything but a scammer.

If you consider it naught but a donation, I can only say thank you very much for your patience and faith in me, and many many apologies for the time it's taking.

Alfa please don't fret and take your time. Life throws things at us and we can't prevent or predict. I'm sure we all can understand that and will be more than happy to wait. You focus on your life and we'll be here for when you can get up and running again. Please take your time, and take some time for yourself.

Or just change the pledges to money/video from money/month. Then we can actually set the upper limit to money/month MAX, and neither will we pay withoyt content, nor will you be able to spam vids for €£¥$. And seriously, just upload vids as private first and give the link to patrons. Then make it public the next day; Rob Scallon does this and it works just fine. My 1€/month is minimal compared to how much I burn on CDs, haha

That would indeed be a good idea if it weren't for one thing, which is that it would super fuck up my financial situation and I would most likely have to get another job, which would slow down editing to a crawl and turn my life upside down. I mean, this will probably happen anyway if most people find me to be too slow as of this moment, but I should not make that assumption straight away!

There are some reasons I choose not to do that but they're kinda... complicated. First off, Swedish law dictates that whatever I earn off of this site counts as a donation, and donations are tax-free in Swedenland. However, if I was to give out benefits that Patreons earn by paying , they're 'getting something in return', which means it'll count as a service, which means that it isn't tax-free and I will be considered a criminal. The other reason is more a moral one I suppose. I don't really want to give out benefits to people 'cause I feel like I am putting limits on content for money, which could be seen as corrupt. I know a lot of people don't make a big deal out of it, and I should put my patrons above anyone else, but I feel like it could be a slippery slope.

Well, thats the point of patreon, to support, not to Pay and get merchandise. You already made tons of content in your quest to spread the word of our glorious emperor and it doesnt matter for me, what future will bring. Hell, your work is for 40K community is just remarkable, we need ppl like you. As long as you will be around, i will show you my support and i dont really expect anything in return.

Wouldn't they then just put you on tax if you change it from donations? If they did, though, I suppose you'd be shooting yourself in the foot. You do have me on skype too, dude, so it might be easier to pm me if you wish to talk about it in more detail, even though this is all a matter of marketing, in which I am obviously not proffessionally educated.

Hey Alfabus , do not beat yourself over this. Everybody has to deal with Real-Life one way or another, so relax. The worst thing you can do right now is to stress yourself too much, because that would only get in the way of production. I myself consider my pledges not an investment, salary or donations. For me pledges are a way to support someone with the means to live life the way they want to, while doing something we both enjoy. But I would lie, if I would not expect something back in return, I am still giving you a part of something that I need to live myself, even if the amount is minimal. It is one of those give and take situations, but I am flexible as long as I know what is going on. In my opinion the only way to deal with the current situation is to be vocal on it. Tell you Patreons what is going on, so we know that you are still alive (I do not follow you on twitter, just Youtube and Patreon). Finish this project to the best of your abilities and learn from it on how to plan your projects in the future. Of course I like it when you post 15+ Minutes Videos, but if that takes to long in editing, stop doing those. Just make shorter ones in the future and that has two important reasons: First is the important part, you will not feel like you are in debt to your patreons. Second, if you undertake a project that is to big and you encounter problems, it will get to your head. That is always the case if you do something you and others care about. So just make sure, you plan accordingly. You can still tell a big story. Just do it in parts aver an extended period of time and not in one big chunk.

Definition of a scammer: One who does everything in his/her power to steal from another, usually by means of trickery, deceit, and force. With the accesibility and anonymousity that the internet provides, scammers have become increasingly prevalent in modern times. Usually driven by personal greed or even outright amusement, they are unhindered by sympathy or morals and are the very face of human corruption. Well. You directly contradict that very definition. You are not a scammer. You are a content producer that cannot produce content as fast as he likes. That is a vast, vast difference. People pledge here because they like your work amd they want you to continue doing it. I don't remember pledging for X videos a month, I remember pledging because I want you to keep doing this. And I will increase my pledge just to reinforce my point.

Signed up just to donate. I appreciate the work. I do kinda like the idea of having both a per time and a per video donation option in theory, especially if one backer can donate to both. I have no idea about Patreon other than a few really bad attempts I've seen and then this.

Alrighty, Alfa you good human you, Nice of you to post this but this isnt really out of the norm. Life just happens, it can be a pain but it just happens, if the project's are to big or complex i would rather you spend as much time as you want doing it right. Patron is a voluntary service for people to give as much or as little as they want to creators. I have been giving you 30 dollars since you started using Patron. I give you the money (key word here is GIVE) out of support i honestly dont expect you to bring out a EP once a month thats just mental with the amount of editing, voice acting and post production that goes into all of them. Also i'm glad you are doing more complex things means you are testing new things and moving out of the comfort zone blah blah stay sexy. Side Note Life comes first before anything

If you ask, you can probably get some animation students to do some of the animating for little more than beer and pizza. They make the load easyier, they get some experience and the episode comes out sooner, everyone wins!

Alfa, I invest in your patreon because your videos make me laugh, also, with the hope that you don't stop making these videos. whats more, you are still giving us videos at a faster pace than Berserk manga chapters coming out, which I believe is currently at an average at 1.5 chapters PER YEAR, AT BEST, and it is still my absolute favourite read.

Aside from that, You as a creator of things that amuse me, do not have a real person job. Thus I, as a person who wants to be amused, should find some way of helping you out. TBH I personally would like shorter videos more often, but I don't know enough about your process to know how well that would work. So I'll just say, keep up the good work!
