Speaking of distinct fighting styles, not sure if it has yet been mentioned, but it's my understanding each nations fighting style is based on different IRL fighting styles.

We finally made it to the north pole, but there isn't a lot of ice or snow. They also didn't do a lot of water bending training.

The creators have mentioned in interviews that voicing Meng was what got Jessie Flower the role of Toph, they liked her performance so much that they remembered her when it came time for Toph auditions and invited her back.
