This was such a cool episode and meeting the Northern Water Tribe was so cool!! First off, their city is BEAUTIFUL but how do they STAY WARM IN A CITY OF ICE

People forget that the southern water tribe was so small because it was ravaged by war, they were almost wiped out, and in turn all the of age men are out at war. the only people in the village are those who were not fit for battle, kids and elderly. and a couple women

Yes, the earth nation is the biggest and most populated nation, however some of earth kingdom is occupied by fire nation. I don't think it's been mentioned in particular, but I don't think that's a spoiler, there's a war going on and the fire nation is definitely invading other countries lol.

"who is having those children?" the answer is horrible..also i am kind of surprised you didnt catch that... the men left for war with Kataras and Sokkas father....the women were all killed after the fire nation came into the unprotected village... you know the attack where their mother died? its a childrens cartoon after all

The earth kingdom is scattered with Fire Nation colonies, that's why they keep stumbling into fire nation

Sokka and Katara's village isn't the only village in the south pole, we know from ancillary sources such as the rpg game and the old nick website that there are other settlements. As for how the Northern Tribe stays warm, just look up how irl Inuit people stay warm since thats who the water tribes are based off of. But if you want a magical explanation, my headcanon is that the waterbenders also work to heat up their homes with hot water since we know from Avatar Extras that they can change its temperature. "As a waterbender, Katara has the ability to change the temperature of water. She can freeze it and even turn it into steam."
