What a plot twist! Another piece on the board. But which piece? A strategic pawn ♟ or a powerful queen ♛? 🤔 Interpreting the author's intention with the final dialogue: In the last scene, the Shinigami says he gave the Death Note to Misa and asks why she doesn't use it for HERSELF. Misa responds that she's using it for herself because she BELIEVES what Kira is doing. And she continues to justify in a way not so rational... I understand that this dialogue was not placed at random, and more important is the way Misa says and the words she uses. For me the Shinigami represents the author's vision of Misa (an external vision). At the same time, Misa's response and words are the way that the author uses to show how she thinks about herself and her actions, distorted by her own bias. As Vee said, a "fan" (cult of Kira). That is how I see this end dialogue.

I really recommend the Death note Live Action Japanese films. Death Note (Original Japanese Version), Death Note 2: The Last Name (Original Japanese Version), and Death Note : Light up the NEW World (Original Japanese Version). These are their titles on Prime. You'll love seeing L in person. Its pretty much the exact same as the anime, story-wise, but its like film candy to see them in live roles. :)
