A friend wanted a detailed description of my trip so I figured I’d post it here too lol. Sorry it sounds so cold and calculated and void of personality; that’s how I talk to my friends lol

Getting to Mexico was a nightmare. I had to leave for my flight at 3am and I didn’t sleep before. My flight from Halifax was delayed and we had to stay on the plane for almost 2 hours waiting for paper work (nothing else was told to us). The lay over in Toronto was only 1.5 hours so there was a 100% chance we would miss it. I was rebooked on the next flight leaving from Toronto to Mexico but it was 13 hours away so I stayed in the airport for 13 hours. I tried to sleep in the lounge but couldn’t so I just watched movies on my iPad.

The flight to Mexico from toronto was 6 hours and it was fine. Someone from the convention picked me up and took me to the hotel to check in. I got there around 1 am (4am in my time zone), and when I went to my room the heat was on and the AC didn’t work so it took an hour to fix that. I didn’t get to bed until 3 am (6am my time) so I hadn’t slept in like 48 hours.

I woke up at 7am and couldn’t get back to sleep so I went to the gym and got breakfast. I ate avacado toast and a protein shake everyday before the convention and burger king for lunch every day because it was fast and easy and very high protein ( I get the vegan whopper with 2 patties), and I had vegan tacos every night for dinner which were pretty good.

The first day of the convention I was dressed as Robin because the costume is uncomfortable and Friday was the shortest day of the convention. It was a good day, i sold a good chuck of my merch (cosplay prints, stickers, pins, art print) and Lots of people came to my booth to take pictures and get selfies too which is always nice.

My booth was in a big convention hall in an area called cosplay alley which was nice because all the cosplayers were together which meant that any of the convention goers who were there liked cosplay. Typically cosplayer will be mixed around so you feel weird cause there will be a lot of people around but only a few stop bat the booth. At my booth I had a table that had all my prints and stuff but this convention also gives you a big space next to your booth to take photos and a little ring light as well. They also provided a translator and person to take photos for you. I was lucky because I’ve had the same translator for the 4 times I’ve been there and we have become really good friends. I also have a friend who live in Mexico and he was huge help at the booth as well.

Saturday I dressed as super boy which is more comfortable because Saturday is a long day and usually the busiest. I was there from 10am-6pm day was packed with people and a lot of them just wanted to take photos (which I don’t charge for).

Saturday night I met up with some friends and we gossiped about the convention, and life and cosplay. A summary is

-the con is a bit understaffed

-one cosplay guest is a diva (Taryn cosplay) and his requests were a personal green room, fresh sushi, sugar free redbull brought to his room

Every morning, only 5 hours of work a day, and a 2 hour lunch.

-the con is under new management cause the old manager called someone a faggot (that someone was a gay actor from the show smallville). The Spanish word maricon translates into fag but in mexico it can also mean cowardly. Similarly to how gay was used to mean dumb in the 90’s. The manager meant coward but he still got canceled.

-a lot of Mexican cosplayers don’t like each other for various reasons but it all comes

Down to jealousy.

Sunday was actually my best money day but it was slower with photos which was nice. I was dressed as Nightwing which is my most comfortable. It’s typical to wear the most comfy one on Sunday cause you’re so tired. I also always need to bring a nightwing to Mexico because it’s a very popular character here. I had a cosplay friend stay at my booth which was good company and she is pretty popular so people kept asking her for photos. She started telling people she’d only take a photo if they bought something from my booth. That worked out well for me.

That night there was a cosplay after party which I was supposed to go to with some cosplayers but first I went to dinner with others (tacos). I left dinner early to get to the party and when I arrived I didn’t know anyone there and it was really awkward. The girl who was showing me around told me some drama about how she is a part owner of the bar the party was at but said I can’t tell anyone because other cosplayers will be mad at her. She said it’s because she was asked to invest and not others. It was boring drama.

Eventually people I knew showed up and we had some drinks and danced. There was this girl I met a dinner who showed up to the party but wanted to go to Tim Horton. the party was very warm and loud so I went with her. (Tim hortons is a Canadian coffee shop and I didn’t knew they had them in Mexico.) we got ice coffee and talked for a while then went back to the party.

My service was bad so everyone was worried about where I was. When I got back I drank a bit more and just vibed to Spanish music. Mexicans can dance like no one else. It was like sex on the dancefloor. I left around 2am because my ride to the airport was picking me up at 8:30. I packed a bit, went to bed, woke up, finished packing and headed to the airport. Now I’m here in the lounge waiting for my flight with two comic book writers who now love me because I got them into the fancy lounge. We all have our headphones on and are working. Did you know someone at marvel is making a white panther. ACTUALLY?? And if you’re wondering why the state of comics is so bad it might be because the writers will write two finished scripts in less than 8 hours.

GOSSIP!
